I Begged His Brother to Get Me Pregnant
Chapter 83: The Apple of the Boss’s Eye
Chapter 83: Chapter 83: The Apple of the Boss’s Eye
"You can rest assured! There will be absolutely no mistakes at the firm! I’ll be in touch immediately if anything comes up."
Ryan Sterling nodded, and only then did Mr. Shaw dare to breathe a sigh of relief.
’After all, this is the boss’s wife! If anything went wrong on my watch, wouldn’t that be the end of me?’
...
How could Evelyn Grant know what was happening on the other end?
After returning to the firm, she immediately got to work.
Besides the few cases about to go to trial, she also had new ones the firm had assigned her.
Evelyn Grant had just finished printing out the documents and was about to head back to her office when she happened to see Mr. Shaw returning from outside the firm.
"Mr. Shaw, you were out?"
"Yes." Mr. Shaw smiled, looking at Evelyn Grant as if she were one of his own clients!
This was also why Evelyn Grant had never considered leaving the firm.
She always felt there was a real human touch here! Her colleagues and supervisors were all exceptionally kind and friendly.
When Evelyn had first graduated, she had worked at other places where—never mind the leadership—even her own colleagues were constantly scheming and backstabbing.
Even someone like her, who normally never got involved in disputes or took sides, would be gossiped about by her coworkers behind her back.
Evelyn was just about to leave when Mr. Shaw called out to her from behind.
"Ms. Grant, about that divorce case from last time—I see it’s already had two hearings. Are you running into any trouble?"
"It’s manageable. The other party is just refusing to divorce and insists on continuing the marriage. But it’s nothing major. At worst, I’ll just have to file a second petition."
In these kinds of situations, the divorce usually goes through in the end.
It’s just a matter of time.
Mr. Shaw nodded. "All right, then. If you find it too difficult, just let me know! We can discuss assigning it to another lawyer!"
Evelyn was taken aback by his kindness.
"After everything that happened, the fact that you didn’t fire me was more than enough! You don’t have to be so accommodating. I already feel terrible for causing the firm so much trouble."
"How long have you been working at our firm? How could I possibly fire you over something so minor? Besides, I’ve told you before, you were the victim of a senseless disaster. I should be the one comforting you, not making things worse!"
Evelyn felt a sting in her nose, and tears nearly welled up in her eyes.
"Thank you, Mr. Shaw. I’ll be sure to work hard for the firm."
Her words left Mr. Shaw at a loss for a response.
He didn’t dare say anything careless at a time like this.
’After all, if the boss’s wife ever found out the truth and happened to recall this conversation, my own life could be on the line! He had to remember, the woman standing before him was the apple of the firm’s hidden boss’s eye—the untouchable kind!’
"Your main focus should be your health. Don’t start pulling all-nighters right after coming back. Your well-being is what’s most important."
Evelyn Grant nodded. "Thank you for your concern, Mr. Shaw."
"Go on and get back to your work! If anything comes up, feel free to come find me upstairs anytime. I’ll be sure to sort it out for you."
"Okay."
Only after watching her superior leave did Evelyn Grant return to her office.
Little did she know, her entire conversation with Mr. Shaw had just been overheard.
Of course, you couldn’t blame their colleagues for letting their imaginations run wild.
Even Evelyn herself, after hearing his words, felt that Mr. Shaw was being almost excessively kind to her.
At any other firm, after an incident like that, they probably would have fired her before she even had a chance to return to the office!
