I Begged His Brother to Get Me Pregnant
Chapter 57: I am Jane Jacobs’s Father
Chapter 57: Chapter 57: I am Jane Jacobs’s Father
After Julian Sterling hung up, he tried to collect himself and focus on work.
But the thought of his brother by Evelyn Grant’s side—and knowing he had been scheming all along!
How could Julian possibly feel at ease?
His phone rang again. It was his secretary calling.
"Mr. Sterling, about the overseas business trip—when do you plan to depart? It’s already been postponed for nearly a week. If we delay any longer, there might be..."
Julian Sterling had originally planned to quickly smooth things over with Evelyn Grant and then get back to work.
He had never imagined that Ryan Sterling would get involved. Furthermore, since the incident with Jane Jacobs, his relationship with Evelyn Grant hadn’t just failed to improve; it had actually gotten worse.
’If this keeps up, getting back together will be truly hopeless.’
"I can’t go. Find a way to cancel it."
"Cancel it? Mr. Sterling, we really can’t cancel this! The contract negotiations have reached a critical stage. If you don’t go in person now, the other party will likely think we’re not sincere and decide to pull out of the deal."
The secretary, of course, was speaking from the company’s perspective.
But as the president of the company, how could Julian Sterling not know all this?
He knew it all too well.
Agitated, Julian Sterling pulled out a cigarette, lit it, and took a harsh drag.
He watched the gray smoke curl from his lips and slowly dissipate until it vanished completely. He subconsciously reached out, as if trying to grab onto something.
But there was nothing.
’I couldn’t hold on to anything.’
Pressing his thin lips together, Julian Sterling said, "Cancel it. If the other party cancels the deal because of this, then so be it."
’I can’t end up with nothing.’
’I can’t give up on Evelyn Grant.’
After finishing his cigarette, Julian Sterling dialed Evelyn Grant’s number.
Of course, no one picked up.
He sent a text instead: "Evelyn Grant, come out. We need to talk."
He waited for a long time, but there was no reply. Then, an unknown number appeared on his screen.
Julian Sterling frowned and answered the call.
"Hello, who is this?"
"Is this Julian Sterling?"
The voice on the other end sounded somewhat elderly, not like a young person’s.
Julian Sterling paused for a moment. "Speaking."
"I’ve finally found you! I’m Jane Jacobs’s father!"
"..."
Mr. Jacobs immediately started crying on the other end of the line. "Jane is dead, and because of all this so-called evidence, the media is driving me crazy! Before she died, Jane said you were the kindest person to her. So for my daughter’s sake, please, help her mother and me!"
The online backlash wasn’t something that would die down in a day or two.
Nor was it something an ordinary person could endure.
And now that Jane Jacobs was dead, her parents didn’t even know the real story. All they could do was endure the public’s condemnation.
"Are they still harassing you?"
"Yes! They hound us every day, and they just keep cursing Jane’s name! I can’t stand to hear it anymore. Even if Jane wanted that Evelyn Grant woman dead, wasn’t it only because she loved you so much? You know how good she was to you; you should know that better than anyone!"
Julian Sterling was, of course, concerned about anything related to Jane Jacobs.
But Mr. Jacobs’s words—"because she loved you so much"—truly gave him pause.
"She... the chat logs said she was pregnant with another man’s child."
"That’s absolutely impossible! My Jane has been reserved and cherished her self-respect since she was a little girl. This is absolute slander!"
