I Begged His Brother to Get Me Pregnant
Chapter 23: Waiting for You to Bring a Sister-in-Law Back
Chapter 23: Chapter 23: Waiting for You to Bring a Sister-in-Law Back
But a second later, Julian Sterling squashed the thought.
’This is too absurd and ridiculous!’
’Forget the fact that Evelyn Grant is on her second marriage and has been in a detention center. Even if she were still that innocent girl-next-door, she’s nowhere near good enough for my brother.’
’How could Ryan possibly want her?’
’He would never help her get pregnant just to escape the death penalty.’
"Oh? Ryan, I remember you once said there was a girl you liked?"
Ryan Sterling nodded. "I did."
"Then why not bring her home for Mom and Dad to see? You’re twenty-seven this year, right? It’s time to start thinking about marriage! We haven’t kept in touch as much since you went to Eldoria, but I still care about you, you know! When you bring your future sister-in-law home, I’ll drop everything at the company to meet her, no matter how urgent it is. We need to show her that our family takes her seriously!"
Julian Sterling thought to himself, ’A woman my brother has had on his mind for so many years must be truly exceptional.’
Ryan Sterling smiled. "I’m not in a hurry. Let’s wait until you’ve dealt with your situation with Evelyn Grant."
’Otherwise, there’s no way he could bring this "sister-in-law" home.’
...
When Evelyn Grant got back, she didn’t even have time to think about dinner. She went straight to her computer and dove into her work.
Cases that had gone to trial during her detention had already been assigned to other senior lawyers by Mr. Shaw. However, for a few whose hearings were delayed, the clients were still waiting for her to be their defense attorney!
She couldn’t let them down, not when they had placed so much trust in her.
There was always a chance of winning or losing a case, but she had to give it her absolute best.
If Sean Shaw hadn’t suddenly called, Evelyn Grant might have kept working for hours without looking up.
She glanced at the caller ID, then pressed the answer button. "Hello, Mr. Shaw. You were looking for me?"
"Mhm! The boss of our firm just said he wants to treat the staff, so he ordered everyone dinner delivery from Crimson Pagoda. Send me your current address, and it’ll be sent over shortly!"
’Dinner from Crimson Pagoda?’
Evelyn Grant was taken aback. "That’s... isn’t that a bit much for the boss to spend? Besides, I just caused so much trouble for the firm. I feel guilty accepting it, so please count me out."
"That won’t do. Everyone is getting one, we can’t leave you out! Quick, send me your address. I still have to ask the others."
She hesitated for a moment, then agreed.
After sending her address and putting down her phone, Evelyn Grant suddenly found herself feeling curious—or rather, puzzled—about the mysterious boss of Eames Law Firm.
In her three years at the firm, the highest-ranking person she had any contact with was Sean Shaw. He was the one who always stepped up to handle any issues, big or small.
The true boss of Eames Law Firm, however, was someone she had only ever heard about.
Evelyn Grant had never met him, and he had never even come to the firm for an inspection. All she knew was that the boss was a man, not only incredibly generous but also very powerful. After all, Eames Law Firm was undeniably one of the top three firms in Kyro’s legal world.
Beyond that, she knew nothing.
Just as she was about to push those thoughts aside and get back to her work, the doorbell rang.
Evelyn Grant got up, walked to the foyer, and checked the security monitor. To her surprise, it was a food delivery person.
"Hello, are you Miss Evelyn Grant? I’m with Crimson Pagoda delivery!"
She opened the door and watched as he brought in box after box, arranging them on the dining table. She couldn’t help but ask, "Does Crimson Pagoda... use pre-made meals?"
’Otherwise, how could it be this fast!’
"Of course not," the delivery person said with a smile. "Please enjoy."
He gave a respectful bow and left. Evelyn Grant walked over to the table and looked at the dishes that had been delivered—
Every single dish was one of her favorites.
There wasn’t a single thing she disliked.
