I Begged His Brother to Get Me Pregnant

Chapter 186: Shouldn’t Have Persuaded My Sister to Remarry

  • Next Chapter

It’s just how relationships are. They tend to grow cold once people drift apart.

That’s a rule of the adult world.

“Alright.”

It was a kind gesture from her little brother, so Evelyn Grant couldn’t bring herself to keep shooing him away.

She lowered her head and glanced at the practice problems her brother was working on.

The questions had changed quite a bit since her own college entrance exams. After so many years without touching the subject, Evelyn Grant was very rusty.

The two siblings studied the problems and chatted, completely oblivious to the new presence in the hospital room.

Finally, it was Florence Morgan who broke the silence. “Eve?”

Hearing the voice, Evelyn Grant looked up.

Florence Morgan had arrived with the Sterling family’s driver, carrying several bags of health supplements and fruit.

The driver set the items down and left, leaving the three of them alone in the room.

The moment Alex Grant saw who it was, he was instantly on guard, moving to stand protectively in front of his sister.

“Ms. Sterling.”

“Oh, Alex, you’re here too!” Florence Morgan was all smiles, walking over to shake Alex’s hand, but he dodged out of the way.

Whether it was because Alex was too young to know how to exchange pleasantries or because he was being intentionally difficult, the moment he spoke, things immediately became awkward.

“Ms. Sterling, my sister and Julian are already divorced. If you’re here purely to visit my sister, you’re welcome. But if you have other intentions, then please don’t come again.”

“…”

Evelyn Grant instinctively tried to stop her brother. “Alex, don’t be like that…”

“Sis, why can’t I say it? Julian treated you so badly before, wasn’t it just because he thought our family had no one to stand up for us? He thought the Grant family was just social climbing! Well, we’re not climbing anymore. The Sterlings are the Sterlings, and the Grants are the Grants. Why won’t you let me say it?”

Florence Morgan never expected to be rendered speechless by the retorts of a teenage boy.

She thought for a moment before finally speaking. “Alex, I know your sister has been wronged! Ask her if you don’t believe me—I’ve always been on her side. When I found out they divorced, I gave Julian a beating myself!”

“You’re still one family, so a beating or not, it was just for show.” Alex wasn’t like his sister Evelyn, who would always tiptoe around to save face for everyone. Despite his youth, he had a clear sense of right and wrong and spoke his mind. “If you were really good to my sister, Ms. Sterling, you wouldn’t be trying to persuade her to get back together with him.”

Florence Morgan was stunned. “Divorce is never a good thing for a married couple! If they get back together, I promise Julian will never be like this again. Won’t that solve the problem? Alex, you’re still young, you don’t understand how the world works! A divorced woman has to start over. It’ll be hard for her to find someone who’ll truly make her happy!”

“Then she won’t look for anyone.”

“…”

“Before my sister got married, she was happy every single day at our house. Me, her, and our mom… the three of us were always laughing and talking. We were so happy! But after she got married, she smiled less and less. If that’s what marriage does, then what’s so bad about not being married at all?”

His words left Florence Morgan completely at a loss for a response.

“This…” She could only turn to Evelyn Grant. “Eve, you know me! I’ve always been on your side!”

‘Of course, that was also based on the fact that Evelyn Grant had been nothing but good to both of her elders all these years!’
