No one could get near him. The greatsword in Xiang Minghou’s hand was like a scythe from hell, reaping heads as if they were chives.

A god of slaughter. The fiery rage of death and his composed killing intent were enough to strike terror into anyone who met his gaze.

"Xiang Minghou, you need to calm down."

No one dared approach, able only to try and placate him.

Xiang Minghou brandished his greatsword and pulled on his reins, guiding his horse toward the Imperial Study. The Jinyiwei surrounded him in a circle, continuously backing away.

The warhorse’s iron hooves clattered loudly on the green flagstones.

CLIP-CLOP, CLIP-CLOP. Each step felt like it was trampling on everyone’s hearts.

With every step the horse took, their tension mounted.

The Beili Emperor, alerted by the disturbance, arrived to find a scene on the brink of explosion. The ground Xiang Minghou had crossed was strewn with bodies.

"What audacity, Xiang Minghou!" the Emperor roared.

Xiang Minghou looked coldly at the Beili Emperor, his gaze devoid of any warmth. With a flick of his greatsword, he sent the Jinyiwei blocking his path flying with a wave of Inner Strength.

Instantly, a chorus of screams erupted.

"Xiang Minghou!" the Beili Emperor raged.

’To be so brazen right in front of me! Does he truly fear nothing anymore?!’

"You were the one who ordered my daughter’s death, Your Majesty. I, Xiang Minghou, have fought for Beili for over a decade, and this is my reward? My child, brutally killed! Your Majesty, what do you expect of this subject?" Grief was evident in Xiang Minghou’s eyes, and rage burned within him.

"We do not need to explain Our actions to anyone. As a court official, you have stormed the Imperial Palace and gone on a killing spree. If We do not execute you today, what will become of Our imperial authority?" The Beili Emperor’s killing intent surged.

Xiang Minghou spun his greatsword through the air, completely unfazed by the Beili Emperor’s fury.

"Since the sovereign has no regard for his subject, this subject no longer needs to lay down his life for his king. Today, I, Xiang Minghou, will have vengeance for my daughter!"

"Guards! Kill him," the Beili Emperor ordered, his voice heavy with anger.

The Jinyiwei received their orders. No longer daring to retreat, they charged forward, swords in hand.

Xiang Minghou twirled his greatsword and leaped from his horse. In his hands, the long blade seemed like a divine weapon, spraying blood from any who dared to draw near.

Crimson sprayed across his face, leaving him numb.

He had never imagined that one day his greatsword would be turned against the people of Beili. He had never thought the Emperor he revered would twist right and wrong so completely, condoning the murder of his child by imperial relatives and soldiers.

’If I can’t even protect my own child, what can I possibly protect?’

Xiang Minghou’s eyes turned red with slaughter. His dark face was a mask of death, and his face and body were splattered with hot blood.

The Beili Emperor had never doubted Xiang Minghou’s strength. Besieged by over a hundred men, he had killed or wounded half of them in no time. His entire being radiated a murderous aura, making him look like a living King of Hell.

At this moment, the Beili Emperor finally understood why the border defended by Xiang Minghou struck such fear into enemy nations that they dared not invade.

’A warrior like this was born to fight on the battlefield, to expand the nation’s territory.’

’But what a pity...’

’A man who has no reverence for his emperor cannot be kept, cannot be used. He can only be killed to eliminate any future threat.’

"Your Majesty, the Eighth Prince is awake," a eunuch reported hurriedly.

A flicker of joy crossed the Beili Emperor’s face, but before he could say anything, his expression darkened again. He had already seen the person stumbling toward them.

"You can’t even watch one person! What use are you?" he snapped.

"Your Majesty, the Eighth Prince... the Eighth Prince... his eyes... they’ve turned red," the eunuch said, his face a mask of terror.

"What did you say?"

Astonished, the Beili Emperor strode forward to meet Sang Zhi.

Sang Zhi approached, his fair face devoid of emotion. Only his pair of strange, demonic red eyes stood out, so unsettling that no one dared to look at them directly.
