I Awakened The Ancient Vampire System
Chapter 237: The Web of Shadows
Chapter 237: Chapter 237: The Web of Shadows
Deep beneath the ruins of an ancient, forgotten cathedral in the Carpathian Mountains, the air was thick with the scent of blood and rotting parchment.
This was not a gathering of a mere vampire clan. There were no crimson banners or ornate thrones of bone. Instead, the chamber was a circular war room carved from a rare alloy, illuminated by floating, glowing runes.
The Dark Order was a structured, multifaceted syndicate. Its ranks were divided into the Outer Circle, the Inner Circle, the Apostles, and at the very top, the mysterious Hierarch. They were not just vampires; they were rogue awakeners, corrupted scholars, and ancient beings who had united under a single, terrifying goal: to shatter the current world order and usher in an era of absolute power.
At the center of the table, a holographic projection of the Earth rotated slowly, dotted with red markers.
"The Apeps are gone. The Khamsins are ash," a cold, feminine voice echoed from the shadows. "Our foothold in Eastern Europe is crippled. When will the plans be set in motion?"
A tall, gaunt figure seated at the head of the table leaned forward. His face was obscured by a white, bone-like mask. He was the Hierarch, the undisputed leader of the Dark Order.
"The loss of those bloodlines is... regrettable, but ultimately inconsequential," the Hierarch replied, his voice smooth and terrifyingly calm. "They were pawns. Fodder. Our true objective has never been the petty squabbles of the vampire clans. We seek the relics of the Old Gods. The Heart of the Abyss. The Cradle of Genesis. Once we possess the ancient beings slumbering beneath the Earth’s crust, we will not need clans. We will control the very fabric of reality."
"The Knights of the Horizon are becoming a nuisance," another Inner Circle member muttered, slamming a fist onto the table. Thud! "They intercepted our shipment of mana stones in Milan."
"Patience," the Hierarch hummed. "The Knights are blinded by their own self-righteousness. They think they are the only ones protecting humanity. They do not realize that we have eyes among their highest councils."
A ripple of dark amusement spread through the room.
Standing in the corner, away from the main table, was a lean man with a composed expression. Zero.
He did not wear a mask. Zero was a Peak Grand Core cultivator, an anomaly who had joined the Dark Order not out of desperation, but out of a cold, ruthless ambition. He was a man who valued results over theatrics, and unlike the others, he wasn’t just interested in awakening the Dark King.
The Dark King is a tool, Zero thought, his eyes narrowing. And once the ancient relics are unearthed, I will be the one holding the leash.
He stepped forward, his boots clicking softly against the obsidian floor. "If the Knights are mobilizing, we need to accelerate the excavation of the Tomb of the Forgotten Sun in Egypt. Hassan is already there with Declan."
"See to it, Zero," the Hierarch ordered. "Do not disappoint me."
Zero gave a slight, mocking bow. "I wouldn’t dream of it."
Meanwhile, in Nice, France.
The afternoon sun cast long, golden rays through the massive glass windows of the beach house training room.
CRACK! BAM!
Lucian stood in the center of the reinforced room, his chest heaving slightly as he finished a set of sword forms. The Blood Reaver, currently in its longsword form, hummed in his hand.
His private communicator suddenly buzzed. Bzzt.
He tapped it, and a holographic projection of Miss Solstice flickered to life. The pink-haired lady of the Knights of the Horizon looked livid. Her eyes were narrowed, her arms crossed tightly over her chest.
"Lucian," Solstice’s voice was ice-cold. "I just received a report from our intelligence network. The Khamsin mansion in Sighi?oara is a crater. Over forty vampires dead. Tariq al-Khamsin is missing, presumed dead."
Lucian wiped a bead of sweat from his brow and smiled easily. "Good evening to you too, Miss Solstice. Yes, I did get the job done, didn’t I? The Khamsins are finished."
"You went off-book!" Solstice snapped, her holographic image flickering with static as her aura flared. "You were ordered to wait, not to initiate a full-scale war on Varga territory! Do you have any idea the political fallout this will cause?"
Lucian laughed, leaning against the training dummy. "Political fallout? Solstice, they’re vampires. They hunt humans like cattle. We killed two clans in a week. I’d say that’s a job well done."
"I am not your servant, Lucian!" Solstice shouted, her voice echoing in the empty training room. "You work for me! You are a Recruit of the Knights of the Horizon. You answer to the Council!"
Lucian’s smile didn’t waver. "Alright, alright. But you have to admit, my methods are effective. Now, I need you to focus on helping me find the full strength of the Du Mauriers."
Solstice frowned. "Why?"
"Because Louisa Du Maurier is an Early Astral Realm cultivator," Lucian said, his tone turning serious. "And she’s not even the head of the family. I don’t have the strength to take her on right now, let alone the Patriarch. I need to know what I’m up against."
"Impossible," Solstice said flatly. "The Du Maurier family is one of the oldest bloodlines in Europe. They have the backing of the multiple clans."
"Just help me with that little favour," Lucian chuckled. "After all, I have helped in taking care of two vampire clans. Something your people haven’t been able to do in decades. Also, I need a promotion."
On the other side of the projection, Solstice rubbed her forehead, a deep, exasperated sigh escaping her lips. Sigh...
"You are the most infuriating, arrogant, and reckless child I have ever met," Solstice muttered, her voice tired. "Fine. You’re promoted to Knight-Errant. You’ll get access to Level 3 intelligence. But if you die, I’m not sending flowers."
The hologram faded.
Lucian chuckled, sheathing his sword. He turned toward the door, where a sleepy Rose was standing, her vibrant red hair messy and tumbling over her shoulders. She was wearing a loose silk robe that barely covered her thighs.
"Are you done training?" Rose asked, her voice a soft, seductive purr. "Clara is waiting..."
Lucian’s eyes darkened with desire. "I’m all yours."
