Chapter 1232: Chapter 424: Guarding the Big Intersection, Craftsman (6k)

The fact that there are cameras on the streetlights below the big intersection is purely something Wen Yan did for fun.

Because those cameras definitely weren’t special ones that could capture ghosts, they were just ordinary surveillance cameras.

Previously, Virtue City had a major citywide evacuation, and afterwards, billions of funds were invested into Virtue City. The first area they spent money on was naturally upgrading the cameras in the old Skynet System to new special ones in phases.

Some key intersections and special places were the first batch for replacement.

But actually, those places only got their cameras replaced in the past two years, and many of them were still in good shape, not yet aged to the point of being unusable.

They definitely needed to be replaced, and according to procedure, some were recycled, while others were scrapped.

When Wen Yan was wandering around, he happened to run into people from the Scorching Sun Department and wanted to buy a few cameras, but when they heard he wanted to install them at the big intersection, they just gave them to him…

Wen Yan strung up a cable, borrowed the streetlight’s electrical wire, and installed several cameras on the streetlight, each facing a different direction of the intersection.

The view seen in the surveillance was just an ordinary street with an eerie filter, with green and yellow lights intertwining, as bizarre as can be. It couldn’t capture ghosts, but could see light halos ripple like flowing water.

Actually, it was purely decorative; Wen Yan felt that the intersection looked right this way, that’s all.

He never expected the ordinary camera, which couldn’t capture ghosts, to capture anything in the Nether Path.

At Wen Yan’s house, an old computer was turned on; it was the computer Wen Yan used before, with a 960 card, and hadn’t been cleaned of dust for five or six years. Even the Sparrow Cat disliked how slow it was, now just used for monitoring.

The people at home liked to check the surveillance when they had nothing to do.

Even the most composed steward liked to sit there for half a day when he had nothing to do. They all felt a great sense of involvement, thinking it was a very respectable business, something that would give them pride and a sense of accomplishment even if discussed with others.

Because Wen Yan said this wasn’t just surveillance, it was about guarding the big intersection, preventing troubles before they happen, like those who are adept in battle but without glorious achievements.

Today, like usual, the Little Zombie was watching videos on a cellphone; the Sparrow Cat was sleeping on the cat tower. Suddenly, it heard a sound, opened its eyes, and saw a notification from the computer.

The surveillance software was set up so that there wouldn’t be a notification unless there was significant movement in the picture.

And once it detected something moving, it would send a notification.

Even if no one was watching the surveillance, the automatically stored video would be marked with parts where there was movement, allowing one to skip to the changes directly.

The Sparrow Cat, drowsy-eyed, took a quick glance and its slit pupil instantly widened. It immediately perked up his ears and raised its head.

“Oh my, quick, someone come over, there’s a dead foreigner!”

The Sparrow Cat stared at the screen.

One of the four high-definition cameras captured an old man holding a deathly pale paper lantern, with a few sticks of incense in his hand. He looked up in shock at the camera.

The Sparrow Cat flapped its wings, fully awake now, and wailed loudly. The Little Zombie blinked onto the scene, saw someone on the screen and also opened its eyes wide in surprise.

Then, the Little Zombie quickly closed the video and immediately called Wen Yan.

As the Little Zombie pressed the phone to its face, starting to whimper, the Sparrow Cat panicked.

“He can’t understand you! Give me the phone; this is our meal, no, it’s our board!”

The Little Zombie, wanting to take credit, was reminded by the Sparrow Cat that Wen Yan wouldn’t understand her speaking.

A bit unwillingly, she lowered the phone and put it on speaker.

“What’s going on? Did something happen? Are you all alright?” Wen Yan, on the other end, was confused.

“The surveillance detected something!” The excitement in the Sparrow Cat’s voice was hard to miss: “An Old Deng was walking on the Nether Path! He definitely was alive, no, I mean, he had a body since the camera could capture him! Walking on the Nether Path in broad daylight, surely he’s no good!”

“…”

Wen Yan glanced back at the desolate tomb behind him, then at Feng Wei and Tong Si beside him.

The Sparrow Cat can engage in friendly banter, but why the sudden broad-stroke insult?

“When did this happen?”

“Just now, the surveillance just alerted us someone appeared on it. This Old Deng stupidly saw the camera but didn’t know to lower his head and looked right at it for a few seconds. His face was captured clearly.

Oh no, he’s leaving, should we stop him?”

“You better not, don’t interfere with anything, unless he steps out of the big intersection.”

“Are you looking down on me?” The Sparrow Cat was so mad it puffed up.

“Yes.”

“…” The Sparrow Cat was furious, lifted a claw to hang up, but with its sharp bird claw, it poked a couple of times without hanging up.

The Little Zombie, quick on the uptake, snatched up the phone pointing at a scratch on the screen protector and whimpered.

“Little one, if there’s any issue, remember to call me. I’ll get you your own phone and a sim card.”

“Whimper…” The Little Zombie smiled from ear to ear, handed back the phone to the Sparrow Cat, but thought again since it needed to use it today too. She took the phone back, sat by the computer watching videos and glancing at the surveillance at the same time.

The Sparrow Cat wore a disdainful look, corners of its mouth full of scorn.
