I Am Your Natural Enemy
Chapter 1226 - 422: Testing the Waters, Insufficient Authority (5k)
Wen Yan stood on the Nether Path, looking at a few Ghosts wrapped in Gray Cloth, while the remaining Ghosts basically got lost the moment they fell here, being swept away by countless local Lost Souls, unable to do anything.
Wen Yan looked at the countless Lost Souls inside the Nether Path and tentatively called out.
"Can you lend a hand? Gather those guys who barged in together."
He was just trying it out, after all, most of the Lost Souls here are completely unconscious.
But unexpectedly, after he shouted, those Lost Souls who had been moving forward along the road gathered together and pushed those newly intruding ones aside.
One lost soul that might still have had some awareness struggled amidst the confusion, only to be slapped back by a Lost Soul of an old man.
Wen Yan was stunned watching this, the old man’s Lost Soul’s eyes were empty, obviously devoid of self-awareness, yet still had such a temper.
Tong Si looked at the two Soul Lamps at the Big Intersection and then looked up at the street lamps that seemed out of place but continuously cast a soft warm light. He wasn’t particularly surprised.
Wen Yan, as a living person, could know and understand but could never truly empathize with how important these ordinary warm street lamps were to the Lost Souls here.
Even without consciousness, it didn’t stop these Lost Souls from rejecting the malicious intruders.
The Nether Path isn’t a place just anyone can enter, including Ghosts.
Wen Yan looked at the intruding Lost Souls who were squeezed to the side by a bunch of Lost Souls and cupped his hands in gratitude.
"Thank you all."
He rummaged through his bag, pulled out a jade Cage, and started capturing those Lost Souls, stuffing them in one by one.
Soon, that lustrous white jade carving quickly turned gray, and eventually turned black, exuding a chilling Yin Qi, so cold it could be felt just by holding it.
After he finished packing, Wen Yan singled out those Ghosts that were clearly conscious and aware of their actions, and sealed them separately.
Then he went up from the Big Intersection and went home to fetch some more things.
He hadn’t brought much gear for meetings and fights before, but this time he brought everything.
Incidentally, he took a few sticks of incense, and after descending once more into the Nether Path, he used his Yang Energy to light the incense, gesturing to those around him.
"Thank you all for your help, it’s a small token, please accept it."
He placed three sticks of incense, blessed with Yang Energy, at the Big Intersection, allowing all passing Lost Souls to absorb a bit as a token of gratitude.
Walking on the road, he also held up a stick of incense, letting the passing Lost Souls benefit a little.
Coming out of the Suburbs of Capital City, Wen Yan asked Feng Wei and Tong Si to head back first and shook the Gray Cloth to release the few Lost Souls he had captured earlier.
"Speak, I’m pressed for time. What is your name, where are you from, what’s going on? Just say it plainly. I’m no interrogation expert, not skilled in questioning, but I can tell you responsibly, I’ll disperse your souls on the spot without a trace of error."
One of the Ghosts, with a sullen face, laughed coldly, and the next moment, the Gray Cloth swooped in and bound him tightly.
Wen Yan took out the phone issued by the Scorching Sun Department and snapped a photo of this guy for the record, then opened the matching app to scan him.
Soon, it brought up an identity.
This Ghost turned out to be a modern person who died more than a decade ago. When he died, all the formalities were in order. This guy happened to be in the middle of renewing his ID card and left a record for getting into a street fight.
Wen Yan continued to photograph the other Ghosts, some could be identified, others couldn’t, the unidentifiable ones probably died a long time ago.
Wen Yan stared at the information on the phone, scrutinizing the Ghost before him.
"So bold, yet you still got cut down in the street. Even after death, you’re still this bold. So, here’s my final question, answer or don’t, but don’t waste my time."
The Ghost stayed silent, only responding with a cold laugh, and Wen Yan nodded and looked at the other Ghosts, none of whom were willing to speak.
"Alright, you’re all talents, out here with a sense of loyalty, okay."
Dragging the few Ghosts, Wen Yan started walking from the Suburbs of Capital City towards the urban area.
The deeper they went, the more uncomfortable the Ghosts became.
The protection level of the Capital City is the highest, and guys like these, unauthorized and carrying malicious energy, become more uncomfortable the closer they get. If they reached the Scorching Sun Headquarters area, they wouldn’t even be able to stand there.
Wen Yan had not gone far when he received a call.
"Wen Yan, what’s going on? If something’s up, just let me know." The Chief Secretary of General Director had a slightly tired voice.
It wasn’t even dawn when he was woken up by a call. He had no idea from where Wen Yan had gotten such energy, doing a night run out of the city, and now dragging a few Lost Souls back from the suburbs.
"Sorry, I was attacked by Ghosts, I’m bringing them back now."
"Attacked? There’re Ghosts bold enough near the Capital City?" The Chief Secretary was a bit shocked.
"In the Nether Path."
"Ah?" The Chief Secretary was more puzzled, you didn’t sleep and pulled an all-nighter to go to the Nether Path?
"During the day, Old Li asked me to handle something, I couldn’t sleep, so I went early to do it, didn’t expect it to turn out like this."
Wen Yan didn’t elaborate, and the Chief Secretary didn’t press further. With a quick thought, he immediately said.
