I Am Your Natural Enemy
Chapter 1223 - 421: Seven Soul Summonings, Each Distinct
Wen Yan finished the call and immediately called for a car to leave the city.
Traveling from the city to the suburbs, the night speed was significantly faster. Previously, it took over an hour by car, but now it only took half an hour, without speeding.
As he walked along the road, Wen Yan glanced at the information on his phone, which was sent by the Li Clan from Sanjin County, Hedong State.
When the other party spoke, Wen Yan felt unfamiliar, but upon looking at the public data here, he realized he was quite familiar with the achievements of this Li Clan group.
From thirty to forty years ago to eighty to ninety years ago, this family produced many heroic figures, some of whom Wen Yan had heard about as a child.
Back then, many of the Li Clan’s lineages were severed, partly due to this. Eighty to ninety years ago, during a turbulent time, almost all of the Li Clan’s people in Hedong State were slaughtered by foreign enemies.
Nowadays, the remaining branch consists of people who happened to be serving in the military outside and rebuilt after returning home post-war.
Wen Yan looked at it, and indeed it was a righteous lineage, no wonder he was invited to attend.
Since he was planning to traverse the Nether Path now, he might as well give it a try. For him, it wasn’t too difficult to attempt.
At the nearby desolate tomb, Feng Wei and Tong Si were already waiting.
Entering the desolate tomb and into the Nether Path, unsurprisingly, he passed by a big intersection.
Seeing the big intersection, Wen Yan said to Feng Wei and Tong Si.
"Wait a moment, I’ll take care of something."
Wen Yan switched to the title of Nemesis of Ghosts and Gods, and directly used an Explosive Great Sun Blessing to start soul summoning.
The altar’s phantom emerged, banner flags fluttered. He began summoning from the Li Clan names and character data given, starting from the most recent individual.
When he called out the name, the golden light extended forward, disappearing from view, but soon the Golden Light Avenue returned, bringing nothing back.
Wen Yan’s eyebrows slightly furrowed; this was different from the bug-like glitch he encountered previously when summoning himself. This time, there was a definite reaction, proving there was indeed such a person.
Yet the outcome was unsuccessful, even with the Explosive Great Sun Blessing, he still couldn’t summon anyone.
Something was amiss, proving the resistance to soul summoning had grown to the point he couldn’t succeed.
Wen Yan tried a different approach, reversing the timeline from the most recent person back, as Old Li provided five names, and he tested them one by one.
The second, third, and fourth were the same; the Golden Light Avenue extended but brought nothing back.
At the fifth, the Golden Light Avenue extended not far before it shattered right before Wen Yan’s eyes.
The altar beneath Wen Yan’s feet suffered backlash, creating dense cracks.
Wen Yan waved his hand, dispersing the altar, and looked towards Tong Si.
"Did you see anything?"
"Too dazzling, didn’t dare look, it would blind my eyes for a while."
Wen Yan felt some regret but didn’t force Tong Si into danger.
Originally, he was just giving it a try; he had thought there might be two outcomes — either he couldn’t summon them, as they’d long since dissipated, or he’d summon them, only for a mindless ghost to appear.
But unexpectedly, all five names given by Old Li existed, yet he couldn’t summon any, especially the last one, which encountered such great resistance that even the Golden Light Avenue suffered backlash, directly shattering and forcibly interrupting the soul summoning.
Momentarily, Wen Yan wondered if the fifth name had already ascended, hence the strong reaction.
But it didn’t make sense; if they’d ascended or held too high a status, the Golden Light Avenue wouldn’t have been able to extend in the first place, it would have been forcibly interrupted from the start.
Wen Yan noted the matter, planning to ask around later.
The feelings encountered during several soul summonings seemed different, indicating something was notably off.
Continuing along the road, they emerged from Guanzhong County, right beside Lord Zhu’s residence.
Upon entering, Wen Yan saw a very peculiar ghost.
The ghost was entirely black and purple, with skin occasionally displaying cracks, from which firelight emerged, sometimes releasing black smoke.
"Three Death Gentle Breeze."
"An extremely rare, nearly impossible special ghost.
First poisoned to death and revived, then died in a car crash and revived, lastly, burned to death.
One person experienced three types of deaths; each time, their heartbeat stopped, soul began departing the body, yet modern medicine revived them."
This was an extremely rare Gentle Breeze type.
If given sacrificial offerings, and everything goes smoothly, one person alone could uphold a hall.
Even if not becoming a Gentle Breeze, they are an exceptionally rare Tri-Talented Wraith.
If they tread the right path, their future is boundless."
"In fact, they’ve already been swayed, about to take the final step, influenced by certain actions, they’ve changed their mind.
They know what they should, and what they shouldn’t, they know too much.
Seeing their forehead darken, the Death Omen Star is shining.
Now, they’ve stepped onto a crossroads, facing a critical choice.
Begin your performance."
"Temporary Ability: None."
Wen Yan glanced at the ghost, indeed it’s quite dark, no wonder it’s scorched black.
With one look, Wen Yan knew this ghost was the one mentioned in the Black Box’s explanation earlier.
It’s unlikely there would be another experiencing such rich events, dying and reviving, yet still becoming a ghost.
Wen Yan stepped into the hall, greeted Lord Zhu first, then asked.
