Chapter 205: Ch 205- Fragment on Shadow Realm
As they travelled toward the gate, David deliberately kept his speed low so Mo Yuan could keep up with him.
However, Mo Yuan quickly noticed that David was slowing down on purpose. He smiled inwardly but said nothing. After all, there was no need to expose the senior’s little consideration.
Half an hour later, they finally arrived at their destination.
The area was located at the edge of the Inner Area of Cang Wilderness. When Mo Yuan looked at the marsh in front of him, he was surprised.
’Isn’t this Black Marsh?’
He had visited this place before while hunting the slime beast to test his Devour Talent. He had not expected the newly discovered gate to be located here.
David stopped beside him and looked toward the dark marsh.
"We’re here."
Mo Yuan turned his attention toward the water. The marsh looked calm on the surface but its depth was difficult to estimate. As he continued staring at it, a strange feeling suddenly appeared in his heart.
Something was calling out to him.
The sensation was faint at first but it quickly grew stronger. It felt as if something beneath the water was attracting him, drawing his attention toward itself.
’Strange. Why am I feeling attracted to this place? If the gate is somewhere beneath this marsh, could that be the reason?’
He could not figure it out, so he turned toward David.
"Senior, why did you bring me to Black Marsh? And where exactly is the gate?"
David smiled and pointed toward the water.
"The gate is beneath this marsh, more than two kilometres below the surface. According to the Monarch Realm cultivator who discovered it, the gate leads to a fragment of the Shadow Realm."
Mo Yuan’s eyes widened.
’The Shadow Realm? Could it be related to my new Shadowspawn race? Is that why I feel so attracted to it?’
Ever since his transformation, he had discovered several strange things about his new race.
However, he still knew very little about its origins. Now that he had encountered something connected to the Shadow Realm, he could not help feeling curious.
"Senior, what exactly is the Shadow Realm?"
David shook his head.
"Even I don’t know much about it. The Monarch Realm cultivator who discovered the gate reported it to the higher-ups. They ordered me to seal off this area and make sure no one from the human race comes here."
Mo Yuan felt a little disappointed. He had hoped David might know something useful.
"But Senior, this is beast territory. How can we seal off such a large area?"
David laughed.
"There’s no need to guard it personally. I’ll place a few warning flags around the area. Then I’ll inform Cang Lan Base and the nearby bases to stay away from this place. That should be enough for now."
He looked toward the marsh again.
"Besides, the gate is at least two kilometres underwater. Ordinary cultivators won’t even be able to reach it easily."
Mo Yuan nodded before asking another question.
"Senior, how are these gates classified? How do we know which ones are strong and which ones are weak?"
"From what I know, gates connected to places containing Sovereign Realm beasts are classified as one-star gates. Those connected to places containing Monarch Realm beasts are classified as two-star gates. As for three-star gates, even I don’t know much about them."
David paused before continuing.
"However, the classification isn’t something we can determine just by looking at a gate. There are many things the higher-ups consider. The strength of the creatures on the other side is only one of them."
Mo Yuan nodded thoughtfully.
"Then, Senior, what rank is this gate?"
"We don’t know yet. Only the higher-ups and the Monarch Realm cultivator who discovered it have more information. My task is simply to seal off the area. The higher-ups will decide what to do next."
Hearing this, Mo Yuan nodded again. However, the strange attraction he felt toward the marsh had not disappeared. In fact, the longer he stayed there, the stronger it became.
He stared at the dark water for a moment before making a decision.
’I will explore this place myself once I reach the Sovereign Realm.’
He was curious but he had no intention of acting recklessly. Whatever lay beneath the marsh was connected to the Shadow Realm and he still did not understand his own Shadowspawn bloodline.
"Wait here for a few seconds," David said. "I’ll place the warning flags."
As soon as he finished speaking, his figure disappeared.
Mo Yuan remained where he was, silently observing the marsh. A few seconds later, David returned.
"All right, let’s head back."
The two of them immediately set off toward Cang Lan Base.
Half an hour later, they arrived at the base and went straight to the Human Federation Tower.
Once they reached the tower, David turned toward Mo Yuan with a curious expression.
"By the way, why did you come looking for me today?"
"Let’s go upstairs first, Senior. I’ll explain once we’re there."
David raised an eyebrow but did not ask any further questions. They entered the elevator and headed to the hundredth floor.
After taking their seats, Mo Yuan finally spoke.
"Senior, I came here because I wanted to ask you about movement techniques."
He felt slightly embarrassed bringing up such a request but he had decided that David was the best person to ask.
"A movement technique?" David looked at him with interest. "Have you seen the technique Mu Bai’s son uses?"
Mo Yuan nodded.
"Yes. I’ve heard that it can increase movement speed by four times. It’s called Phantom Walk, right?"
"That’s correct." David smiled. "In fact, I was the one who gave him that technique."
Mo Yuan looked at him in surprise.
"You gave it to him?"
"Hahaha! Yes. Mu Bai came to me and asked for a suitable technique for his son. He already had the Mountain Breaking Fist but his son lacked a suitable speed or strength talent. So he wanted something that could help make up for that weakness. In the end, I sold him Phantom Walk."
Mo Yuan nodded, becoming even more interested.
"Senior, what grade is that technique?"
David leaned back in his chair and smiled.
"It’s a Mithril-grade movement technique. As for its multipliers..."
He paused, looking at Mo Yuan with a mysterious smile.
"That’s something you’ll need to hear about carefully."
