I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

Chapter 990 - 479: Suppressing a Giant with One Hand

The shockwave from the breath attack lingered in the air for a long time. Below, the surviving soldiers were completely dumbfounded. Was this truly the power of a human? It was a display of divine might—overwhelming, brutal, wild, and utterly unreasonable. They were so awestruck that they completely forgot about the terrifying shrapnel raining down from the exploding boulder. Fortunately, Gauss had already clapped his hands above them, blasting the incoming debris away and neutralizing the deadly aftershocks before they could even strike.

The humans behind Gauss weren’t the only ones stunned; the One-Eyed Giant on the hillside was also completely frozen in shock. What had it just witnessed? The granite boulder it threw was effortlessly annihilated by that mysterious creature using a method akin to shooting a mosquito with a cannon. Destroying the rock seemed like just a trivial side effect of that terrifying attack, as the remaining force shot straight into the heavens.

The One-Eyed Giant stared at the massive hole pierced through the clouds and instinctively took two steps back. Such an enemy... Even with its dull mind, it knew it couldn’t fight him. Although the opponent’s size was like an insignificant ant compared to its own, the power he wielded was far more terrifying than its own massive, burly physique.

But before it could think further, Gauss’s gaze suddenly snapped in its direction.

The moment Gauss locked eyes with it, the One-Eyed Giant felt a pressure hundreds or thousands of times more terrifying than their first encounter. The pressure overwhelmed it like a tidal wave. Gauss’s petite figure rapidly magnified in its eyes until it felt like a massive mountain pressing down on its head, nearly suffocating it.

"Wait here for me for a moment," Gauss’s voice reached the ears of every soldier below.

With that said, his wings kicked up a gale, and he shot forward like a beam of light. In an instant, he arrived at the hillside where the One-Eyed Giant stood. Gauss and the monster stared at each other from a hundred meters apart. One hundred meters—this was a very short distance for both Gauss and the One-Eyed Giant.

Gauss observed the One-Eyed Giant’s body up close. This was perhaps the largest monster he had ever encountered at such close range. Even the Extraordinary Centaurs couldn’t compare to the sheer size of the beast before him. Of course, in this fantastical Extraordinary World, size did not entirely equate to strength. Otherwise, with his small frame, Gauss would be completely powerless against enemies so much larger than himself.

What mattered more was whether one possessed other tiers of power—such as Magic or a Domain. Furthermore, muscle density, explosive strength, agility, speed, and skin toughness were all factors that determined a creature’s true strength. Compared to the slightly smaller Extraordinary Centaurs, this One-Eyed Giant was undoubtedly all flash and no substance. While the muscles beneath its skin were massive, under Gauss’s scrutinizing gaze, they were simply not dense enough. It resulted in a creature with enormous muscle mass but painfully mediocre strength.

In truth, this assessment was only because his standards had grown so high. Having grown accustomed to far more powerful monsters, viewing these lower-tier enemies through a higher-dimensional lens naturally made them seem utterly ordinary.

If seen through the eyes of an ordinary Adventurer, a massive One-Eyed Giant like this would be an almost despair-inducing opponent. From afar, it could hurl boulders with unmatched precision and destructive power. Up close, the situation would be even more hopeless. Once its three-story-tall body was set in motion, it became a gigantic killing machine, capable of crushing any human in its path into meat paste with casual ease. On the defensive side, that layer of yellowish-brown skin acted as a Protective barrier that would drive an average Adventurer to despair. Even if the giant stood perfectly still and let them hack at it with weapons or bombard it with Magic, they would likely struggle to even scratch its defenses.

Its only weakness was probably its eye. However, the One-Eyed Giant was well aware of this and would never allow an enemy to viciously attack its vulnerable spot. This tied into one of the survival rules for ordinary people: upon seeing a giant creature, it was best to steer clear from a distance. After all, smaller monsters might not necessarily be proficient in Magic or possess immense strength disproportionate to their size, but the strength of large monsters was guaranteed to be formidable—otherwise, they wouldn’t even be able to move their own bodies.

"ROAR!"

Gauss heard the One-Eyed Giant bellowing something at him, the ferocious expression on its face now gone. It was likely speaking the Giant language. Gauss had never learned it. He could, of course, activate Fluent in Language to understand its general meaning, but he wasn’t in the mood right now. It was highly likely begging for mercy. Or, if it had a bit of a backbone, it might be trying to threaten or bribe him. Either way, Gauss wasn’t interested.

His expression remained indifferent as the White Magic Wand in his hand fired a Dragon Roar Missile.

BOOM!

A crisp snapping sound rang out. The massive Giant’s body abruptly tilted and collapsed to the side with a thunderous crash. A look of sheer astonishment washed over the One-Eyed Giant’s face. Its single pupil darted downward, only to see that its pillar-like thigh—thicker than an elephant’s leg—had been blown clean off at the knee. Blood gushed like a waterfall from the severed stump. The attack had been so fast that it didn’t even have time to register the pain.

The One-Eyed Giant fell to its knees, barely maintaining its balance by propping its upper limbs against the ground. With its other hand, it grabbed the massive axe resting by its foot. Just as it tried to look up and find its enemy, it realized the man had vanished once again.

He was... directly overhead! Driven by pure instinct, the One-Eyed Giant sensed an overwhelmingly powerful aura bearing down from above its head.
