I Am Not A Goblin Slayer
Chapter 971 - 472: Top-Tier Magic Essence Body
The dense aura of a true dragon was far richer than the bloodline flowing through its own veins. Furthermore, the difference wasn’t just a matter of a few percentages—it was on an entirely different level.
"Are you... a Giant Dragon in disguise?" it spoke in standard Human Common.
As an Extraordinary Demon, it had naturally picked up Human Common alongside the Demon Race’s common tongue. Of course, it normally wouldn’t use it. Speaking the human tongue and choosing a language familiar to its opponent undermined its status as a top-tier Extraordinary Demon Lord. But right now, it was so astonished that it had completely forgotten about that point of pride.
Hearing the Rot-winged Dragon Bat’s question, Gauss’s expression remained completely unfazed. He had absolutely no intention of answering. There was no need for him to answer an enemy’s question.
The Rot-winged Dragon Bat wasn’t the first enemy to ask him this. It seemed that these Demons, especially those under the command of true dragons, were extremely bewildered by his Racial Talent Ability. So much so that even with solid intelligence, they would completely discard their previous knowledge and assume he was a Giant Dragon disguised as a human.
Or perhaps, he wondered, would others harbor the same misunderstanding?
Gauss shook his head inwardly.
Seeing that Gauss didn’t answer, and noticing that he and Matthias Monroe had already regrouped in the air, the Rot-winged Dragon Bat slowly began to retreat. As a top-tier Extraordinary Demon, it did not fear the combined might of Monroe and Gauss. After all, unless the power gap was overwhelmingly vast, it would be extremely difficult for them to intercept it if it simply wanted to escape.
However, it also realized that today’s scheme had completely fallen through. Gauss possessed the power to instantly kill Isetor; even the bat itself would find it difficult to kill him in a short amount of time. Moreover, it still felt a lingering dread toward the unknown dragon aura radiating from Gauss.
It understood all too well just how majestic true dragons were.
"Retreat."
The corrosive, poisonous miasma surrounding it enveloped its broad wings. In the next moment, it spiraled upward and swiftly fled into the high skies.
"PHEW."
Seeing the Rot-winged Dragon Bat retreat, Gauss breathed a sigh of relief. He had consumed a massive amount of energy just now to swiftly kill the Extraordinary Centaur. Fortunately, the stored energy from his Talent, [Feast], could be released at any time.
Furthermore, although he could kill the centaur instantly, the actual gap in their strength wasn’t the overwhelming advantage the Rot-winged Dragon Bat assumed it to be. Instead, he had largely relied on the powerful mechanics of Future Sight.
Future Sight acted like a trump card, capable of instantly rewriting the battlefield to a certain extent. It could turn a minor advantage into a major one, shift an evenly matched fight slightly in his favor, and, when at a disadvantage, maximize his ability to bridge the gap against an enemy.
What’s more, he was currently much more concerned with the ongoing process of extracting an Extraordinary Talent within his body.
"Good lad, beautifully done!" The bearded president, Matthias Monroe, patted Gauss appreciatively. "You’ve truly made a massive contribution this time."
"I merely fulfilled my mission," Gauss replied, steadying his breathing.
The higher-ups of the Green Dragon Army had always acted with extreme caution. Even when they took to the battlefield, they never went all out. Both the Green Dragon Army and the human leadership knew very well that the battles at this stage were merely wars of attrition. Therefore, Gauss’s slaying of the Extraordinary Centaur was surprisingly the very first Extraordinary Level casualty on the battlefield in half a month.
On top of that, it was a prominent figure within the Demon faction. The Extraordinary Centaur had occupied Black Water Town for quite some time, so the human forces had a fairly clear understanding of its strength level.
The loss of any Extraordinary Level combatant was of monumental importance to both sides. Human geniuses spent decades reaching this level. As for Extraordinary Demons, the time required for them to grow was even longer, generally measured in centuries.
"Gauss! Gauss!"
The death of the Extraordinary Centaur, coupled with the retreat of the Rot-winged Dragon Bat and other Extraordinary Demon Lords, brought a massive surge of morale to the human army.
Gauss’s name echoed across the battlefield. It was unknown who started the chant, but the chorus grew louder and louder.
In stark contrast, among the Demon Legion engaged on the front lines, despair and dejection spread through their ranks like a plague. The highly motivated human army seized the opportunity to press their advantage. Several cavalry units charged out from the various city gates, fiercely slaughtering the utterly routed Demon Legion.
"Take a rest first." Seeing Gauss looking a bit distracted, Monroe assumed the immense energy expenditure had taken its toll and that he was now recovering, unable to focus on anything else. Giving Gauss another pat on the shoulder, he proactively flew downward. "I’ll gather the loot for you first and hand it over shortly."
Down on the battlefield, the corpse, chunks of flesh, and the hardest bones of the Extraordinary Centaur still lay at the bottom of a massive crater.
"Thank you," Gauss expressed his gratitude.
Right at that moment, the Talent extraction within his body finally yielded a result.
"Congratulations, you have extracted one of the abilities from the Demon [The Newborn King of Slime, Eden] (Demon King Seed): Super Mimicry.
"Currently upgrading into the Gold-quality Racial Talent: [Top-Tier Mana Body]."
He wondered what this was.
Gauss initially froze in subconscious surprise. However, upon seeing that it was a Talent extracted from Eden, he was quite pleased. This meant that his wishing process hadn’t been in vain; he had indeed hit the jackpot.
In his mind, the Blue Dragon and Eden had been the best targets for extraction.
The Blue Dragon went without saying. Aside from the Red Dragon, the Blue Dragon was arguably the strongest among the Five-Colored Dragons. In fact, Casting geniuses of that lineage even possessed more comprehensive prospects for strength development than Red Dragons. This was incredibly fitting for him as a Magic Envoy.
The latter, meanwhile, was a Demon King Seed. Even though Eden hadn’t shown particularly outstanding strength—likely due to its tendency to slack off—it was still an absolute anomaly when it came to its innate mechanics. The superiority of its race was displayed to the fullest through it.
