I Am Not A Goblin Slayer
Chapter 1038 - 497: Profession Level: 10
The crowd density in the defense zone after the great battle had visibly decreased; it could even be considered desolate. Gauss also regrouped with his Red Dragon Team.
Due to the effects of his Profession specialty [Proof of Leadership] and his Racial Talent [Heartstring], combined with him holding the front line and greatly restraining the goblin legion, the Red Dragon Team’s casualties were much lighter compared to other adventure groups. Even so, the two-hundred-strong Red Dragon Team still suffered over a dozen deaths and dozens of injuries.
On the walk back to camp with his team, they were met with constant looks of respect. Following last night’s battle and its subsequent aftermath, Gauss’s already respected reputation had reached its absolute peak. For the soldiers on the front lines, the people they respected most were undoubtedly the strong who fought on the vanguard. Everyone’s interests and goals here were united: to fight for humanity and the city, and to slay the monster armies that were the enemies of mankind. An expert like Gauss, who could hold off ten thousand enemies single-handedly, naturally earned their heartfelt admiration.
"Are you alright, Albena?" Gauss asked, looking at the female Giant. Her waist was bandaged, and she winced slightly with every step.
Albena didn’t want to be treated like an invalid, so she insisted on walking by herself.
"Lord Gauss, I’m fine. It’s a... minor issue," Albena shook her head, drawing in a sharp breath as she spoke.
"Once we return to camp, I’ll call a Priest over to treat you." Seeing her state, Gauss didn’t press the matter further, merely issuing the statement in an undeniable tone.
In truth, Aaliyah and Ying had also sustained minor injuries, though nothing serious. It was mainly due to overdrawing their strength; a day of rest would be enough for them to recover. The vast majority of the humans on the front lines exhibited similar symptoms of exhaustion. Once they suddenly relaxed, the fatigue accumulated during the battle erupted all at once, leaving their bodies feeling light and entirely sapped of strength.
Fortunately, after communicating with Monroe, the first batch of cavalry troops would arrive to provide support this morning. As for the other troops, they would arrive one after another over the next few days.
He had also curiously asked about the whereabouts of the leaders and main forces of the Golden Team and Thorn Heart. Monroe didn’t hide anything and informed Gauss of their movements—both adventure groups were on other battlefields fending off other Extraordinary Demon Lords.
In the Jade Forest, besides the Demons that completely submitted to the Green Dragon Queen, there were also some powerful individuals living independently. Since these creatures didn’t occupy large habitats and acted as lone wolves, the Green Dragon Queen only signed relatively loose contracts with them, allowing them to carve out a small piece of land in the forest to survive. In exchange, they had to answer the call to arms during wartime and were forbidden from conflicting with the other Green Dragon Army forces in the forest on a normal basis.
Coupled with the addition of some extra enemies, these Monster Legions on the frontal battlefield did not represent the entirety of the Jade Forest’s forces. However, if news of last night’s great victory spread, it was bound to trigger a series of chain reactions.
Upon returning to the camp, the Senior Priest dispatched by the Adventurer’s Guild quickly rushed over. It was a Level 10 Priest.
"Thank you for your trouble," Gauss expressed his gratitude.
In fact, all the Priests in the entire camp were currently working around the clock. Since many Priests had been reassigned to treat comatose patients, being able to get a Level 10 Priest to come over was purely on account of his prestige.
"It’s no trouble. I will do everything in my power to heal them," the female Priest said with humble caution, clearly aware of Gauss’s identity and his contributions last night. She quickly followed Gauss’s directions toward the injured’s tent.
As flashes of green light brimming with life energy lit up, the wounded’s injuries were swiftly stabilized and healed.
For the rest of the day, Gauss didn’t wander about, obediently staying put in the frontline camp.
The following morning.
When Gauss met with Monroe and learned that the first batch of Farlim’s troops had already stationed themselves at the front line, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"Gauss, my friend, you can go ahead and break through with peace of mind."
During wartime, something like a level breakthrough couldn’t be treated as a purely personal matter, so Gauss had informed Monroe in advance.
Monroe smiled as he spoke. In his view, Gauss was already this strong before breaking through; even if he could no longer use that explosive method afterward, his base strength would undoubtedly become even more formidable. At his age, he no longer held a strong obsession with breaking through his own strength. A breakthrough from Level 15 to Level 16 was a massive chasm for any Extraordinary Strong Person, yet seeing an outstanding genius emerge among the younger Adventurers still made him happy.
"Then I will take my leave." Gauss nodded. "I’ll have to ask you to help cover up my whereabouts, Guild Master."
He truly couldn’t suppress the urge to break through much longer. Quietly leaving the frontline camp, he flew toward the rear plains.
After flying for a long distance, he finally landed in a patch of woodland. He spent a few moments casually purging the native monsters that inhabited the area. Then, he systematically scanned the surroundings for over ten kilometers before finally digging out a cellar in the ground to hide inside.
He couldn’t be blamed for being overly cautious. Although he had only mentioned his breakthrough to a very small number of people, he had killed far too many monsters, including ultra-strong individuals like the Extraordinary Centaur and the Goblin Lord. This had actively influenced the direction of the entire war. Putting himself in the monsters’ shoes, they undoubtedly hated him to the bone.
