Chapter 380: Chapter 252: The miRNA Early Screening Press Conference

Turner Centennial Hall.

The hall was already filled with a crowd.

Just a few days ago, in this very same place.

Jiang He had been met with all sorts of cold stares. ℯℯ𝘭.

But today, the tables had turned!

Everyone was now looking at Jiang He with kind eyes... ’Is this the superiority of Social Darwinism I’m feeling?’

"Jiang, you look well-rested." Professor Weber extended his hand.

Jiang He shook his hand. "I have the heavy snow to thank for that. Professor Weber, thank you for coming."

"Of course I had to come. The theories you, Pierre, and the others discussed at the hotel these past few days were a real eye-opener for us old-timers. I’m here today carrying the expectations of the entire Charite Medical School. I hope your press conference gives me a big surprise."

"I won’t disappoint you."

As the two were talking, a rough voice called out from not far away.

"Hey! Jiang! You’re definitely the center of attention today!"

Jiang He looked toward the sound and saw a burly white doctor with a thick beard striding over. The man opened his arms and gave Jiang He a hug.

This was Evans, the American ER doctor from the hotel lobby a few days ago who had told Jiang He to stop a gunshot victim’s bleeding.

Back then, Evans had been so desperate he’d clutched at straws, insisting Jiang He use some "miraculous Eastern technique" of "pressing twice" to treat a gunshot wound. The suggestion had left Jiang He at a loss for words, and in the end, it was Professor Weber who had stepped in to resolve the situation.

"Dr. Evans." Jiang He smiled. "Things all wrapped up at the emergency center?"

"Just finished. I’m exhausted, but I had to come and see this."

Evans lowered his voice and asked, "Jiang, are you holding this press conference today to reveal your Chinese magic to the whole world? You know... that mysterious sorcery where you press a finger on someone’s leg a couple of times and instantly quiet a patient with biliary colic?"

Hearing this, Professor Weber, who was standing nearby, couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

Jiang He said regretfully, "Dr. Evans, I’m afraid I won’t be talking about that today."

"Alright, well, whatever it is, I’m looking forward to it. To be honest, those guys at Hopkins are usually so arrogant. Seeing that old bastard Miller take a fall, a lot of people in the ER have been privately popping champagne..."

Just as Jiang He was about to reply, a sudden commotion erupted at the entrance to the hall.

The scholars, who had been chatting in small groups, all stopped what they were doing, their gazes turning in unison toward the entrance.

The shutters of several media photographers began to click in a frenzy.

"My God, is that..."

"What is he doing here?"

"Quick, get the camera on him!"

Surrounded by several staff members, an elderly Asian gentleman in a dark suit with graying hair walked into the hall.

Before Jiang He could recognize the man, Su Zhi hurried over from behind him and said:

"Dr. Jiang! Unexpected development—Mr. Qian Yongjian is here!"

Qian Yongjian (Roger Y. Tsien).

Just on December 10th, at the recently concluded Nobel Prize ceremony, he, along with two other scientists, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the discovery and development of the green fluorescent protein (GFP).

And for the people of China, he held an even more special identity.

He was the paternal cousin’s son of Mr. Qian, the father of China’s space program and a giant of science.

Two titans from one family—a truly world-class, top-tier scholar.

How could a figure of his stature suddenly appear in Baltimore?

Qian Yongjian moved through the crowd. Foreign scholars along the way greeted him respectfully, and he acknowledged them with a smiling nod, heading purposefully toward Jiang He.

"Mr. Qian." Jiang He gave a slight bow in greeting.

Qian Yongjian extended his hand. "Mr. Jiang, it’s a pleasure to finally meet you in person."

Jiang He shook his hand. "I’m very surprised you could make it. I imagine you must be very busy right now."

Qian Yongjian smiled and released his hand.

"I came to Baltimore for a cell biology seminar, but I ended up trapped in my hotel by the snowstorm for five whole days. As it happened, my student showed me the news in the Baltimore Sun, as well as the investigative statement about Miller published by The Lancet."

"Then I heard you had announced an independent press conference on early screening. Dr. Jiang, I’m very curious to see what kind of new marker your team has found."

This was a visit born purely of scientific curiosity.

Jiang He said softly, "It won’t be a wasted trip."

Qian Yongjian nodded. "Good. I look forward to seeing your data."

With that, he was guided by staff to a seat in the front row of the hall.

Qian Yongjian’s presence elevated the prestige of the press conference to another level.

A Nobel laureate was sitting in the front row, along with the department head of Europe’s top-ranked hospital...

It was terrifying.

The three senior professors walked over to Jiang He’s side.

Zhou Deming took a deep breath and clapped Jiang He on the back. "Xiaojiang, just go for it. Even Mr. Qian came to hear your report. You have to do well!"

Guo Fengwan also nodded repeatedly. "Don’t feel any pressure. We’ve all seen your data. It’s impeccable. Just go at your own pace."

Wen Xuyang said, "Boss, I’ve got my notebook ready. I’ll be in the audience taking notes on everything."

Jiang He nodded. "Okay."

「At 9:30 AM, the press conference officially began.」

Jiang He walked directly to the center of the lectern.

Camera flashes went off endlessly, accompanied by ceaseless applause.

The stage was set perfectly for Jiang He.

It was worth mentioning that Miller had sent messages to a few friends earlier.

Unfortunately for him, those few friends now all had the exact same thought.

—’Who in their right mind would help Miller cause trouble now?’

Only an idiot would choose to side with Miller at a time like this.
