Horrific Shorts: Zombie Edition
Chapter 2737: Story 2738: The Fourth Son
The chamber fell silent.
Ronan stared at the image of the fourth child.
Black eyes.
A pale face.
And a strange mark across his chest.
“Who is he?” Ronan whispered.
Kael did not answer.
Ronan turned toward him.
“Kael.”
The old warrior looked at the image.
“I thought he was dead.”
Elias stepped forward.
“You knew about him?”
Kael lowered his eyes.
“I knew there were four children.”
Ronan’s expression hardened.
“You lied again.”
“I was protecting you.”
“From what?”
Kael looked toward the fourth cradle.
“From your brother.”
Aren stared at him.
“Our brother?”
Kael nodded.
“The Fourth Son.”
The walls suddenly trembled.
The image changed.
The four babies were no longer alone.
The Mother stood beside them.
The First King stood behind her.
And another figure stood in the shadows.
Tall.
Thin.
Completely covered in black armor.
Its face could not be seen.
Ronan moved closer.
“Who is that?”
Kael whispered:
“The one who took the Fourth Son.”
Elias clenched his fists.
“Where?”
Kael looked at the sealed doors.
“Beyond the First Kingdom.”
Aren suddenly grabbed his head.
“He is awake.”
Ronan rushed toward him.
“Who?”
Aren screamed.
“The Fourth!”
Silver energy exploded from his body.
The chamber shook violently.
The stone cradles cracked.
A voice whispered from somewhere beneath the floor.
“Brother...”
Ronan froze.
It was a child’s voice.
The same voice he had heard beneath the First Kingdom.
The voice that had once called him to the tomb.
“Ronan...”
Elias looked around.
“That isn’t Aren.”
The voice laughed softly.
“No.”
The fourth cradle suddenly opened.
Nothing was inside.
Ronan stepped backward.
Lyra raised her bow.
“Something is coming.”
A black hand emerged from the empty cradle.
Then another.
A small figure slowly climbed out.
A boy.
He looked about twelve years old.
His black hair fell across his pale face.
His eyes were completely black.
Aren stared at him.
“I remember you.”
The boy smiled.
“I remember all of you.”
Ronan raised his sword.
“Who are you?”
The boy looked at him.
“I am the brother they erased.”
Elias stepped forward.
“Your name.”
The boy smiled wider.
“Darian Draven.”
The name echoed through the chamber.
Kael’s face became filled with horror.
“No...”
Darian looked at him.
“You remember me, old warrior.”
Kael raised his weapon.
“You should never have survived.”
Darian tilted his head.
“But I did.”
The walls cracked.
Outside, the dead began screaming.
The First King’s voice echoed through the stone.
“Open the door.”
Darian looked toward the entrance.
“He wants me.”
Ronan tightened his grip.
“Why?”
Darian looked directly into Ronan’s eyes.
“Because I am the only brother who can kill him.”
The First King roared outside.
The entire mountain shook.
Darian stepped closer to Ronan.
“But there is one problem.”
Ronan stared at him.
“What?”
Darian’s black eyes began glowing red.
“I don’t want to kill him.”
He smiled.
“I want to replace him.”
