  • Next Chapter

The sky turned black.

Every dead creature on the battlefield screamed at once.

The sound rolled across the mountains like thunder.

Ronan tightened his grip on his sword.

The Father of the Ancient King stood motionless before them.

Behind him, millions of corpses began crawling toward the three brothers.

“Stay together!” Kael shouted.

Lyra released arrow after arrow.

One corpse fell.

Another replaced it.

Then hundreds.

“Ronan!” Lyra shouted. “We can’t hold them forever!”

Ronan looked toward Elias.

“Can you control them?”

Elias raised his hand.

Black energy spread across the battlefield.

For a moment, the dead stopped.

Then they turned toward Elias.

And bowed.

Elias smiled.

“They recognize the Second King.”

The Father laughed.

“You still believe they belong to you?”

Elias’s smile disappeared.

The dead suddenly rose again.

But this time they obeyed the Father.

Elias stared in disbelief.

“He took them from me.”

The Father stepped forward.

“You were never their master.”

Elias charged.

His black blade struck the Father’s chest.

The Father caught the blade.

With one movement, he threw Elias across the battlefield.

Ronan attacked immediately.

His sword collided with the Father’s hand.

A burst of red energy exploded between them.

Ronan was pushed backward.

The Father stared at his sword.

“That weapon...”

Ronan raised it.

“What about it?”

“It was forged for you.”

Ronan frowned.

“By whom?”

The Father smiled.

“By your mother.”

Ronan froze.

“My mother?”

The Father’s eyes glowed.

“She knew what you would become.”

Ronan attacked again.

This time, the red symbol on his sword exploded with light.

The Father stepped backward.

A deep wound appeared across his chest.

Black blood poured onto the ground.

Everyone froze.

Kael whispered:

“Ronan hurt him.”

The Father touched the wound.

His expression changed.

“You carry more of her blood than I expected.”

Ronan raised his sword.

“Tell me where she is.”

The Father laughed.

“Still searching for your mother?”

Ronan’s anger grew.

“She is alive.”

“Alive?”

The Father looked toward the black gate.

“No.”

He pointed into the darkness.

“She is waiting.”

Ronan’s heart stopped.

“Where?”

“Beyond the gate.”

Aren suddenly screamed.

The chains around him shattered.

Silver energy exploded across the battlefield.

Aren fell.

Ronan caught him.

Aren’s eyes were normal again.

“Ronan...”

“What happened?”

Aren looked toward the gate.

“I saw her.”

Ronan stared.

“Who?”

Aren’s voice trembled.

“Mother.”

The Father smiled.

“She has been waiting for all three of you.”

Elias slowly rose from the ground.

“What does she want?”

The Father turned toward him.

“The same thing every mother wants.”

His smile widened.

“To bring her sons home.”

The black gate began changing.

Its surface became like water.

A pale figure appeared beyond it.

Long white hair.

A torn white dress.

Red eyes.

Ronan stopped breathing.

“Mother...”

The figure raised one hand.

Her lips moved.

But no sound came.

Then the gate whispered her voice.

“My sons... run.”

The Father’s smile vanished.

For the first time, he looked afraid.

“No.”

Kael stared at him.

“What is she?”

The Father stepped backward.

“She is the one thing I could never control.”

The woman beyond the gate opened her eyes completely.

The earth shook.

Then millions of dead creatures turned away from the Father.

And bowed to her.
