Chapter 2699: Story 2700: The Final Door
The darkness swallowed everything.
Kael felt the ancient roots tightening around his body, but he did not fight them.
Beyond the darkness, something knocked again.
Once.
Twice.
Three times.
Lena reached for him.
“Kael!”
He turned.
She stood beneath the white light, surrounded by Azael, Elias, the fifth, sixth, and Forgotten Child.
The ancient Elarion stood behind them.
“You know what you must do.”
Kael looked toward the darkness.
“I become the door.”
The King Before Kings shook his head.
“No. You become more than that.”
Kael stared at him.
“What?”
“A door can be opened.”
The King lowered his sword.
“But you must become the choice.”
The ancient eyes beneath the throne opened wider.
“Come.”
Kael stepped forward.
The black roots released him.
His sword disappeared.
His armor dissolved.
White and black fire surrounded his body.
The ninth heart beat once.
Then the First Soul answered.
Every fragment became light.
Lena cried,
“Kael, remember us!”
“I will.”
Azael smiled.
“Remember that you were never alone.”
Elias raised his golden blade.
“Brother.”
The Forgotten Child closed his eyes.
The ancient Elarion placed one hand over his heart.
“You were always trying to return home.”
Kael looked at him.
“Where is home?”
The ancient figure smiled.
“Wherever they are.”
Kael turned toward the darkness.
Only a symbol remained.
Kael’s first mark.
He placed his hand against it.
The universe stopped.
The darkness finally became quiet forever.
Every dead world returned.
Every person Kael had failed to save stood beneath the stars.
Kael whispered,
“I remember.”
The ancient enemy emerged behind him.
“You cannot save them all.”
Kael turned.
“I know.”
“Then why continue?”
“Because saving everyone was never the promise.”
The enemy frowned.
“What was?”
Kael looked toward Lena.
“To choose.”
The enemy raised its six arms.
The ancient eyes opened.
The King Before Kings lifted his sword.
Kael stepped through the door.
White light exploded across creation.
The enemy screamed.
The First Soul became one brilliant star.
Then silence returned.
Lena opened her eyes.
She stood on a green mountain beneath a peaceful sky.
Azael was beside her.
Lena looked around.
“Where is Kael?”
No one answered.
Then she saw a distant figure walking across the horizon.
Long hair.
Sword across his back.
Shield on his arm.
She smiled.
“Kael.”
He stopped.
He turned.
His eyes were silver.
Then crimson.
Then human.
Kael looked toward the endless horizon.
The ancient voice whispered inside him.
“Are you ready?”
Kael smiled.
“For the first time.”
He walked toward the sunrise.
Behind him, the worlds continued turning.
The door was closed.
But Kael was no longer its prisoner.
He was its guardian.
And somewhere beyond the final horizon, a new world waited.
Kael kept walking.
Because some endings were not truly endings.
They were the first step into something unknown.
