Chapter 2692: Story 2693: The Ninth Awakening
The black ocean retreated. The darkness around them trembled with ancient power.
Kael stood motionless, sword raised, while white fire burned around his body.
“You remember.”
Kael nodded.
“I remember enough.”
The creature slowly stepped forward.
“Then you know why I exist.”
“You are my fear.”
“No.”
The creature touched its chest.
“I am your choice.”
“My choice?”
“When you divided yourself, you left something behind.”
“The ninth heart.”
“The part that refused to obey.”
The white tree behind them began cracking.
Lena’s voice echoed through the branches.
“Kael!”
Her face appeared between the burning roots.
“Do not destroy him.”
Kael looked at the creature.
“Why?”
“Because he is not separate from you.”
The creature smiled.
“She finally understands.”
Azael’s voice followed.
“Brother, listen to Lena!”
Kael lowered his sword.
“What happens if I accept him?”
Lena hesitated.
“You become whole.”
“And the enemy?”
Her silence answered.
Kael looked toward the black ocean.
The crimson eye remained above it.
Waiting.
The creature whispered,
“You cannot become whole without opening the final seal.”
Kael stepped toward him.
“Then we open it together.”
The creature’s expression changed.
“You are not afraid?”
“I am.”
“Then why?”
“Because fear is part of me too.”
Kael reached out.
The creature stared at his hand.
“If I return to you, you will remember everything.”
“I know.”
“You will remember every world you destroyed.”
“I know.”
“Every life you failed to save.”
Kael’s voice softened.
“I will carry them.”
The creature slowly took his hand.
White and black fire collided.
The realm shook violently.
The white tree erupted.
Lena screamed.
Azael shouted.
“KAEL!”
The ninth heart broke apart.
Its fragments flew into Kael’s chest.
Kael remained standing. Something was changing inside him.
His armor became white and black.
His eyes changed.
One was silver.
The other crimson.
Silence returned.
Then Kael heard thousands of voices.
Not enemies.
Not ghosts.
Memories.
Every soul he had forgotten.
Every person he had failed to save.
They whispered his names.
Elarion.
Azrael.
Kael.
He opened his eyes.
“I remember you.”
Then Lena appeared before him.
She was no longer trapped inside the tree.
Her chains had broken.
Azael appeared beside her.
Elias stood behind them.
The fifth, sixth, and Forgotten Child emerged from the white light.
The nine fragments had gathered.
Kael looked around.
“Where is the stranger?”
Lena’s face changed.
“He was never a fragment.”
Kael froze.
“Then what was he?”
Behind the fallen tree stood the stranger.
His crimson eyes were gone.
“I was the guardian.”
Kael stepped toward him.
“Guardian of what?”
The stranger looked toward the black ocean.
“The final seal.”
A deep sound rolled through the realm.
The ocean began rising again.
The stranger whispered,
“And now that you are whole, there is nothing left to guard.”
Kael raised his sword.
“What is coming?”
The stranger looked at him.
“The first enemy.”
The black ocean split apart.
Something enormous began rising.
And for the first time, Kael saw its entire body.
