Chapter 2627: Story 2628: The March of the Second Kingdom
Night fell over the First Kingdom, but darkness never came.
The crimson sky remained illuminated by the enormous red beam rising from the Second Throne.
Across the mountains, millions of undead moved toward the ancient city.
Their footsteps sounded like distant thunder.
Kael stood upon the palace steps, watching the endless army approach.
“We can’t fight that many.”
Ethan tightened his grip on his rifle.
“We don’t have enough ammunition.”
Mara looked toward Isabella.
“Then what do we do?”
Isabella turned to the Last March.
“We hold the city.”
Her soldiers raised their weapons.
Kael looked at Lena and Elias.
“No. We don’t hold it.”
Elias frowned.
“Then what?”
“We stop the throne.”
Adrian hurried toward them carrying several ancient documents.
“I found something.”
Kael turned.
“What?”
Adrian opened the oldest page.
“The Second Throne isn’t fully activated yet.”
Lena stared at the symbols.
“How long?”
Adrian pointed toward the red beam.
“Until dawn.”
Kael looked at the sky.
“Then we have until sunrise.”
A massive horn sounded beyond the city.
The approaching undead army had reached the outer walls.
The ancient guardians moved into position.
Seraphine raised her staff.
“Close the gates!”
The enormous doors began descending.
Then something crashed against them.
BOOM.
The entire city shook.
Again.
BOOM.
Cracks appeared across the gates.
Isabella shouted,
“Archers!”
Hundreds of bolts flew through the openings.
The first wave of undead collapsed.
But thousands more climbed over their bodies.
The battle began.
Kael turned toward the palace.
“Elias, Lena, with me.”
They entered the ancient corridors.
Adrian followed.
“You’re going beneath the throne?”
“Yes.”
“The First Origin is there.”
Kael stopped.
“Then we’ll face it.”
They reached a circular chamber beneath the palace.
At its center stood the foundation of the Second Throne.
Red energy pulsed through enormous veins of black stone.
Lena stepped closer.
“I can feel it.”
Kael looked at her.
“What?”
“The throne is connected to me.”
Elias shook his head.
“Not only you.”
He placed his hand against the stone.
Black energy spread beneath his fingers.
“The three bloodlines are powering it.”
Adrian stared at them.
“Then separating the connection might deactivate the throne.”
“Can you do it?” Kael asked.
Adrian hesitated.
“Maybe.”
A deep roar interrupted him.
The chamber walls cracked.
The First Origin emerged from the darkness.
Its enormous body filled the passage.
Kael raised his sword.
“Get behind me.”
The creature lowered its head.
“HEIRS.”
Lena stepped forward.
“We won’t give you the kingdom.”
The First Origin’s countless eyes glowed.
“THE KINGDOM ALREADY BELONGS TO ME.”
It attacked.
Kael blocked the enormous claw.
The impact drove him to one knee.
Elias struck from the side.
His weapon cut through one of the creature’s armored plates.
The First Origin roared.
Lena raised both hands.
Red energy wrapped around its limbs.
“Now!”
Adrian rushed toward the throne.
He pulled several cables from his equipment and connected them to the ancient control panel.
The symbols began changing.
“It’s working!”
Suddenly, Veyr’s voice echoed through the chamber.
“You really thought I’d leave the kingdom undefended?”
Kael looked upward.
Veyr appeared on the balcony above.
Behind him stood dozens of transformed soldiers.
Veyr smiled.
“Destroy the throne, and the Second Kingdom dies.”
He raised his hand.
“But the throne isn’t the only thing connected to it.”
Lena’s eyes widened.
Veyr pointed at her.
“The Heir is the new foundation.”
Black veins suddenly spread across Lena’s neck.
Kael shouted,
“Lena!”
She screamed.
The red beam above the kingdom intensified.
And far beyond the mountains, the marching dead suddenly began running.
The Second Kingdom had chosen its queen.
