Holy Crap! My Cat is Actually a Female CEO?!
Chapter 343: A Chance Encounter with My Future Mother-in-Law? Time to Do a Good Deed
“Yeah, I just got it recently!”
Gu Yizhou nodded and replied casually.
“Sigh…”
“I’m so envious of you, Brother Zhou!”
“To actually have the money to buy a G-Wagon!”
“This car must cost millions, right?”
He Mingyi said, his face a picture of envy.
He was practically bursting with envy!
“I don’t really remember.”
Gu Yizhou said without turning his head as he drove, “My girlfriend gave it to me!”
He Mingyi: ‘Screw you!’
…
「Twenty minutes later.」
He Mingyi stood on the side of the road, speechless for a long time as he watched the black Mercedes G-Wagon roar away.
“Sigh~”
“There’s just no fairness in this world at all!”
“Comparing yourself to others will drive you insane!”
He let out a soft sigh, muttered a few words to himself, then silently turned and left.
「Meanwhile, with Gu Yizhou.」
He had reached an intersection and was waiting for the light to change.
He casually picked up his phone to see if Yan Luoxi had replied, but there was nothing.
‘Did class start this early?’
‘Or is she busy with something else…’
Gu Yizhou muttered to himself.
It wasn’t that Gu Yizhou suspected Yan Luoxi.
After all, Yan Luoxi had already told him she’d be busy with her studies lately and would even have to go abroad over the weekend.
Just as that thought crossed his mind, the light turned green.
Gu Yizhou hit the gas, and the car surged forward.
It was raining again.
Raindrops began to patter against his windshield.
‘There’s been so much rain this year!’ Gu Yizhou grumbled.
He watched as the rain outside grew heavier. Droplets streaked down the glass, making the world outside look hazy and indistinct.
When it rained like this, traffic in Modu was bound to get backed up.
Sure enough, he hadn’t gone far before he hit traffic.
Gu Yizhou could only fall in line with the other cars, inching forward slowly.
BZZ BZZ BZZ—
Just then, his phone started vibrating.
Gu Yizhou thought it was a message from Yan Luoxi. He grabbed his phone and glanced at the screen, but it was a message from his mother, Chen Dongmei.
Empress Dowager Chen: “Son, are you off work yet? The forecast says heavy rain in Modu. Drive safe.”
A slight smile touched Gu Yizhou’s lips, and a wave of warmth washed over him.
“I’m off work. Stuck in traffic, but I’m almost home. Mom, can’t talk right now, I’m driving.”
He quickly replied with a voice message.
Then he put his phone down and quickly closed the gap with the car in front of him.
‘If I don’t get a move on, the car behind me is definitely going to start honking!’
After inching forward another dozen yards or so, he suddenly saw a traffic cop in the rain, directing cars.
Only then did Gu Yizhou notice two cars up ahead with their hazard lights on.
‘So there was a fender-bender. No wonder traffic suddenly came to a halt,’ he thought.
Suddenly, out of the corner of his eye, Gu Yizhou noticed a familiar figure on the side of the road.
‘Is that… her?’
‘What’s she doing here?’
Gu Yizhou was taken aback.
After a moment’s thought, Gu Yizhou cranked the wheel, made a U-turn, and headed straight for the other side of the road.
Luckily, that side of the road wasn’t blocked; otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to get over.
The car slowly pulled over and stopped on the side of the road.
Tang Wanfang was rubbing her hands together, waiting for her driver to pick her up.
She was startled when a car suddenly pulled up in front of her.
Just as she was wondering what was going on, the car window slowly lowered.
A ridiculously handsome face appeared in her line of sight.
“Scum—uh, it’s you?”
she said in surprise, finally getting a clear look at Gu Yizhou’s face.
She had almost blurted out the word “scumbag.”
But she managed to catch herself in time.
“It’s me.”
“Um… Ma’am, where are you headed? Can I give you a ride?” Gu Yizhou asked.
“Uh…”
Tang Wanfang was a little surprised by his offer of a ride.
“That won’t be necessary, but thank you.”
“I’m waiting for my driver to come pick me up.”
Tang Wanfang politely declined.
After she spoke, she glanced at her phone instinctively.
When she said she was waiting for a driver, Gu Yizhou misunderstood, thinking she’d called a ride-share.
So he said, “There’s an accident up ahead blocking traffic. Your driver won’t be able to get through here for a while.”
“Huh?”
“The road’s blocked?”
Tang Wanfang froze for a second when she heard the road was blocked.
But Gu Yizhou’s next words left her even more confused.
“Yeah, Ma’am!”
“It’s cold and rainy out. How about this, Ma’am, just cancel your ride, and I’ll give you a lift.”
“Don’t worry, it’s free of charge!” Gu Yizhou offered.
“Huh?”
Tang Wanfang was completely bewildered now.
“Ma’am, please don’t hesitate. Just get in. You’ll catch a cold standing out here!” Gu Yizhou urged, noticing rain starting to splash in through the open window.
He assumed she was hesitating because she was worried he might be a bad person.
In reality, Tang Wanfang was still trying to process what he’d just said.
However, his words snapped Tang Wanfang back to reality.
“Look, Ma’am, I live right next door to your daughter. We’ve met a few times, and you even know where my company is located. Don’t worry, I’m not a bad guy!” Gu Yizhou said again, seeing her just staring at him.
‘This is the last time I’ll ask,’ he thought. ‘If she still won’t get in, I’m leaving. After all, you can’t force someone to accept your help when you’re just doing a good deed on a whim. Honestly! If they hadn’t met a few times, and if she didn’t look so pitiful standing in the cold, pouring rain, he wouldn’t have even bothered to play the good Samaritan.’
Just then, Tang Wanfang’s phone lit up.
It was a message from her driver, telling her he was stuck in traffic and asking her to wait a little longer.
Tang Wanfang looked from Gu Yizhou to her phone.
‘So it’s true! He was right. The road was blocked, and the driver wouldn’t be able to get here for some time. Well…’
‘I am hesitating. He does have a point, though. We’ve met several times, and while we aren’t close, we aren’t exactly strangers either. Besides, it’s pouring rain and getting cold. Standing on the roadside, there’s no telling when my driver will be able to get here. Under the circumstances, accepting Gu Yizhou’s help seems like the best option.’
Having come to a decision, Tang Wanfang nodded and said softly, “Alright, then. I’ll have to trouble you, young man.”
“It’s no trouble, Ma’am. Please, get in,” Gu Yizhou said.
Suddenly, he thought of something and added, “Oh, Ma’am, you can just sit in the back. I’ve got stuff on the passenger seat, so it’s a bit of a mess.”
Tang Wanfang paused for a second.
Then she understood.
‘This young man is surprisingly thoughtful. He knew I was wary, so he had me sit in the back. That avoids a lot of potential awkwardness, at least,’ she thought.
She gave Gu Yizhou a long look, then nodded, silently opened the back door, and got into the car.
