Hogwarts: Bloodline Legend
Chapter 1244: The Wizarding World of Africa
Chapter 1244: Chapter 401: The Wizarding World of Africa
Ian recognized the direction—based on the fragmentary information obtained from Legilimency earlier, the direction where those African wizards came from was roughly east, where there was more likely a human settlement.
He cast several Protective Spells and Tracking Spells on himself, took a deep breath of the air full of wilderness, and stepped forward.
At least this time, his adventure sounded much more normal—he was only lost in the African jungle, and at worst, encountered some Fantastic Beasts with fierce firepower.
This sounded much better than facing any era of wizard extinction.
As long as he repaired the Time Machine.
Ian could then continue his journey of collecting materials, and upon completing the collection, he might be brought back to the correct time by Dumbledore.
In any case, Ian had entertained thoughts about finding a way to return to his own era, but considering Dumbledore was still stuck in ancient times, he couldn’t just abandon his headmaster.
“It should be this way.”
Ian stepped onto the morning dew, traversing the pristine rainforest of the basin. The towering baobabs stood like ancient giants, their branches twisted like dragon claws, their canopies blocking out the sky and sun. Vines hung down like pythons, entwining the millennia-old trees; the air was filled with a humid, hot scent, mixed with the fragrance of decaying leaves, soil, and unknown flowers.
Ahead, in an open marshland, a group of strange creatures was drinking water.
Nagini, an African giant serpent with a unique long neck, had skin as black as night, scales gleaming with a metallic sheen, and dozens of slender tendrils extending from its neck, dancing like living things in the air.
They were powerful magical predators, able to paralyze prey with their tendrils and then swallow them whole with their giant mouths.
Ian was not alarmed.
He stood still.
The ancient aura of pressure stemming from his Legendary Wizard heritage quietly released from within him.
The Nagini swiftly raised their heads, tendrils stiffening, their snake-like pupils flashing with extreme fear. They let out low hisses, sliding quickly into the depths of the marsh, disappearing from view.
“Ha, it seems the legendary status of the human world works in Africa too.”
Ian chuckled lightly and continued on his path.
Not long after, he encountered a group of Apary resembling giant hippopotamuses, magical creatures with skin as hard as stone, capable of spewing corrosive acid. They initially intended to attack Ian, but upon sensing the magical aura emanating from him, these bullies immediately tucked their tails and fled in panic.
What surprised him most was the sight at a cliff’s edge— a group of colorful Occamies gliding between the branches overhead, their long feathered tails as splendid as rainbows. Ian watched with intrigue; such wild Fantastic Beasts were not to be seen at Hogwarts.
As he ventured further, he encountered a small group of Horned Camel Beasts drinking by the river. These large, gentle creatures had violet-colored fur and golden horns. Noticing Ian’s approach, they only warily raised their heads, snorted loudly, but displayed no aggression.
Ian nodded amicably in greeting, bypassing them.
The most impressive encounter occurred in an open area—an enormous African Fire Dragon, its body covered with scales patterned like black and white spots.
It resembled a mix between a giant lizard and leopard.
It was lazily sprawled on a giant rock, sunbathing. As Ian passed by, the beast reflexively opened its amber vertical pupils and let out a low, warning hiss, dragon breath carrying a scorching aura.
“Shut up, little one!”
Ian spoke disrespectfully to the giant dragon, much larger than himself.
The giant dragon roared in anger.
However, when Ian stopped and calmly gazed back at it, inadvertently revealing the dignified aura unique to a Dragon Slayer, honed through battles with Ancient Giant Dragons, the situation took a dramatic turn. The African Fire Dragon froze suddenly, its vertical pupils abruptly constricting.
Its throat’s hissing became anxious, almost whimpering.
It instinctively shrank its neck, its massive body retreating slightly, demonstrating a clear posture of fear, as if encountering its natural enemy.
Ian paused for a moment, then understood.
“Looks like my Dragon Slayer’s prestige isn’t something any dragon dares to provoke; the African Fire Dragon is a coward.” Ian indulged himself in the thought that the Dragon Slayer’s certificate from an ancient giant dragon was as conspicuous and intimidating as a torch in the dark for magical creatures sensitive to perception.
“That’s fine, I’m not hungry now, so needless battles are pointless.” He smiled slightly, restraining his aura, and continued forward peacefully. The Fire Dragon didn’t dare relax until he was far away but would no longer lazily sunbathe while keeping a vigilant eye in Ian’s departing direction.
The subsequent journey went surprisingly smoothly. Whether it was stealthy Poison Horned Beasts, Magic Apples disguised as vines, or boisterous, ill-tempered Pangluos, they seemed to have perceived in advance the terrifying power lingering within this seemingly ordinary human and chose to retreat or ignore.
Ian seemed to possess an invisible pass, traversing unhindered through this primeval forest filled with Fantastic Beasts. Hours later, he finally emerged from the forest’s edge, the view opening up, and traces of human activity gradually increased—the trodden paths, occasionally discarded modern packaging.
Even the distant, faint rumble of engines reached his ears.
Finally, at the border between a vast savanna and the jungle, Ian discovered a sizable settlement. A village made of mud bricks and straw appeared in his sight.
