Chapter 1231: Chapter 395: An Absurd Era! (Part 3)

“What on earth is this… strange place?” Ian felt a wave of astonishment. He thought he had accidentally returned to World War II, but the street lamps and electric wires suggested this was a more recent era.

Just as he was stunned, a villager noticed him. It was a middle-aged man wearing an ill-fitting uniform, holding an old-fashioned shotgun, his gaze wary and fierce.

“Stop! Who are you?” the man shouted in German, aiming his gun at Ian.

Although Ian could understand German, he was not very familiar with this dialect-infused German, but the hostility was unmistakable and easy to discern.

Facing the gun, Ian was neither nervous nor anxious. He simply turned his head and instinctively used Legilimency, wanting to directly read the man’s mind to gather information.

However, the moment his consciousness entered the man’s brain, a massive amount of information surged in, almost making his head tingle. It was not a single thought, but a thoroughly brainwashed, fanatically faithful mind. What shocked him even more was the time information extracted from these fragments of thought.

1998.

But not the 1998 he was familiar with.

“Hmm?”

Ian’s pupils suddenly contracted a few times. He finally understood why the magic energy here was so sparse—under such rule, Wizards and Magic must have been systematically persecuted and suppressed. Most likely, much of the Magic Knowledge had been destroyed, and the remaining Wizards had to hide deeply.

And the reduction of Wizards and Fantastic Beasts was the true reason for the arrival of the End of the Dharma Era. Nature and creatures are interconnected, influencing one another.

“Answer me! Who are you?” the villager shouted again, finger poised on the trigger. Other villagers were alarmed and gathered around, each with eyes full of suspicion and hostility.

No choice.

Ian didn’t look German at all.

After all, he was a descendant of British nobility.

“I hold no ill intent.” Ian quickly assessed the situation. He couldn’t use large-scale magic here as it would expose his identity as a Wizard, an undoubtedly suicidal act in this highly anti-magic time and space. But he couldn’t be captured either, who knows what these brainwashed villagers might do.

“I’m simply a lost traveler,” Ian replied in English, while quietly gripping his Magic Wand. He hoped to bluff his way through but knew deep down this was unlikely.

As expected, the villagers became even more alert upon hearing English.

“Capture him!” someone shouted, “Could be one of those evil Axis remnants from back then!” Good heavens, the Allies turned Axis, indeed history is written by the victors.

The villagers rushed forward. Ian sighed, knowing the chance for a peaceful resolution was gone.

“Stupefy!”

He waved his Magic Wand lightly, and the few villagers at the front fell down in response.

But this only angered the others. Gunshots rang out, bullets whistling past Ian’s side. He had to cast the Iron Armor Spell to protect his whole body while quickly devising an escape strategy.

“Apparition? No, unsure of this space-time’s Magic Rules…”

“Disillusionment Charm? Too many people around, easy to be discovered…”

“Memory Modification? Too many people, too large of an area… would make me seem like an authentic Dark Wizard.” While Ian hesitated, police sirens sounded in the distance.

Apparently, someone had called the police.

More armed personnel were on their way.
