Chapter 2892: Chapter 1112: Closest Distance (Double Release! Bonus for Moe Lord ’Schrodinger’s Meal Ticket’)

"Lend me some money?"

The North District Grand-Wizard repeated the proposal, looking at the fist-sized little cat on the table with a peculiar expression. He held back but eventually couldn’t help laughing: "Hmm, sorry, what I mean is, no need, thank you... I appreciate your kindness."

The little face of the Black Gem Cat instantly drooped.

"Think I can’t afford it?"

It was displeased, feeling underestimated—wanting to reveal how much personal savings it had accumulated to the Witch over the past few months, but worried that once the information leaked, it’d be turned into stone and stuffed into a dark box forever.

Korma noticed the little cat’s conflicted look.

"At the level of a Grand-Wizard, many things are no longer about money."

She considered and gave a few small examples: "Like dust wood, do you know where to buy it? Or soul crossing liquid, last month at the internal auction of the Great Wizard Conference, the starting price per milligram was a hundred jade coins; or Sea God Agate, a spiritual object collected only by the big sea monsters’ magic ships—not that the place it exists is particularly perilous or hard to reach, but because its growth and collection process is too bloody, many wizards find it dirty, so the big sea monsters were used as ’white gloves.’ As for how to get those agates from the white gloves, whether it’s gambling, robbing, coercing into buying, or simply trading, etc.—every Sea God Agate circulated in the market represents a private connection between wizards and demons, which cannot be resolved with mere money."

The Black Gem Cat listened to these unheard secrets, instinctively wide-eyed and speechless.

It had pondered in political class before, that money can become a general equivalent because it achieves a certain delicate balance between scarcity and liquidity. Anything less scarce than money can be measured by money; anything more scarce than money cannot be bought with any amount—if you think this is nonsense, you’ve clearly underestimated the importance of the word ’scarcity.’

Korma looked at the Black Gem Cat lost in thought, paused, as if wanting to say something more but suddenly frowned, looking surprised at the door.

The next second, the door of Sakura Pub was violently pushed open.

The Black-robed who had left earlier stormed back in again, and there were more of them this time. The leading wizard, familiar to both the pub owner and the little black cat, was none other than Professor Yi JiaZi from the First University’s divination course.

Professor Yi’s gaze wandered around the room for a moment, finally landing on the Black Gem Cat, his eyebrows slowly furrowing.

"Is it the one?"

He looked at the Black-robed standing beside him with a questioning gaze.

"Yes, that’s right! Those few hairs were just plucked from it!" The Black-robed person stared at the Black Gem Cat intensely, with a hint of excitement in his tone, as if he would pounce and strangle the little cat’s neck in the next second.

The Black Gem Cat cautiously arched its back, tucked its tail, and stepped back two steps.

Its throat emitted a warning sound by instinct.

A somewhat cool hand touched its back, signaling it to remain calm.

Without needing to look back, the Black Gem Cat knew who the owner of the hand was, and the anger that had just risen instantly dissipated completely, its previously arched back collapsed immediately, full of thoughts about being touched and surrounded by a crowd!

Done for!

It seemed to already imagine how the Big Fox would react upon knowing this.

Contrary to the short and quirky-minded little cat, the two Grand-Wizards present acted much more seriously.

"What’s happened?"

The pub owner of Sakura Pub calmly asked these uninvited guests, seemingly not at all angry over them barging into his territory, yet the calmer he appeared, the greater the pressure felt by the Black-robed.

Professor Yi examined his surroundings.

Ultimately, he carefully set up a barrier, succinctly explaining: "——Earlier, the Divination Group obtained a very clear divination conclusion from some ’medium,’ showing that an individual we’ve been in contact with is closest to Professor Montreya... One might say, find that individual, and you’ll find Professor Montreya."

The Black Gem Cat felt the cold hand on its back sink slightly.

But it was nothing compared to the sinking feeling in its heart.

"Is it those black cat hairs?" A voice of confirmation came from the North District Grand-Wizard beside it.

Professor Yi didn’t repeat his answer, just nodded with an inscrutable expression.

The Black Gem Cat sensed the Witch’s gaze fall upon it with a hint of incredulity.

And itself, of course, was utterly bewildered!

Just having chatted in the pub, how did it suddenly become a suspect?

"Do you want to listen to yourselves talk?" The Black Gem Cat instinctively blurted out, its voice sharpened by tension: "Me? Near that Old Crow? Closest?"

With three consecutive questions, each asking restored some of the Black Gem Cat’s confidence, after finishing, it felt itself a clear and innocent cat again.

"It’s Professor Montreya."

Professor Yi first corrected the little cat’s somewhat disrespectful remarks, then pondered, nodded: "Indeed, overly clear divination conclusions can sometimes lead to errors in interpretation... If we think from a different angle, this ’closest distance’ might be from different dimensions—close in spatial distance is one explanation, close in causal distance is another explanation—but regardless of the possibility, the closest distance between you and it is beyond doubt. So, think carefully, do you have any clues related to Professor Montreya at hand?"
