High School of Demon Hunting
Chapter 2890 - 1110: Before the Dragon Boat Festival
Chapter 2890: Chapter 1110: Before the Dragon Boat Festival
The Firebird descended behind the mountain.
The rain finally stopped.
A faint moonlight replaced the Sun, continuing to bring light to this world. However, this light was constantly shrouded by the heavy night, like the school’s prohibition, not lifted yet, like a stone pressing heavily on everyone’s hearts.
The good news was that after the new ’Sun’ rose, the school relaxed its control to some extent.
The Fishmen in Lin Zhong Lake started to surface and blow bubbles, and several shops on the Pedestrian Street hung night lights. Some students with notes from the professors were allowed to go out and handle matters.
Zheng Qing, naturally, did not get a professor’s note.
Or rather, no confused professor would dare let him out at such a sensitive time.
But while people couldn’t go out, cats could.
When the moonlight grew thicker, the freed Gem Cat eagerly slipped down Dormitory Hill and went straight to the Cat Fruit Tree. The path was empty. The Cat Fruit Tree was much quieter than usual. The fuzzy fruits seemed to have fled to drier and more comfortable places due to the earlier storm, leaving only a few hanging sparsely on the branches, quite desolate.
Didn’t wait long.
The Big Fox and White Jade Cat also arrived one after another under the tree.
"—Don’t ask me, I know nothing."
The Gem Cat raised its tail, and the green Big Fox seemed to have guessed what it wanted to say, directly interrupted, and patted the heavy Magic Potion book beside it, reminding the two study partners: "In one week, it’s the final exam; whether you can graduate depends on this endeavor, so don’t worry about those messy things, focus all your attention on the textbooks! As the saying goes, sharpening a sword right before the battle, though it’s not quick, it’s shiny. You’ve both polished your sword tips excellently; maintain it, and graduation is no issue!"
Both a warning and encouragement.
Indeed grasped the essence of Jiuyou Academy.
"—I have no new information either." The White Jade Cat noticed the Gem Cat’s upright ear beside her and couldn’t help but smile, muttering with a very small voice: "Before coming out, she reminded me not to immediately send home any information gathered under the tree; she wants to confirm first..."
Suddenly!
A bushy big tail descended from the sky, landing between the Gem Cat and White Jade Cat, with a resounding thump, akin to a solid blue stone wall.
"What are you two whispering about! Do you think I’m deaf?"
The Big Fox’s roar seemed to make the surrounding moonlight tremble a bit.
The two little cats immediately withdrew their claws and curled their tails, revealing well-behaved looks.
Just past the new moon, tonight’s moon was not conspicuous, but its light was quite bright. Likely due to the school’s Protector Array being open, adding extra brilliance to the sky.
This light falling upon one’s body felt like a sticky toffee glued under one’s paws, making it hard to ignore the earlier eclipse, dark clouds, and the Firebird replacing the Sun.
So, after finishing tonight’s review session, the Gem Cat did not return to the dormitory but instead tried to inquire elsewhere about what exactly happened last night. It had reason to believe that even if it went back to the dormitory, it would be chased out again due to the same reasons. Given that, there’s no need to waste any more time.
As for where to inquire—
There’s no point in going to Greenhill Mansion; the Big Fox made it clear under the Cat Fruit Tree earlier.
Fox Five in D&K is Su Daxu’s informant. If it inquired at the shop, chances are the news would reach Su Shijun before it even returned to school, so it’s not advisable either.
Perhaps there’s luck to be found around the little shop or the neighbors across the street.
Unfortunately, the Gem Cat’s luck seemed not so good tonight. The shops at numbers 96 and 98 on Pedestrian Street—i.e., on either side of D&K—were all locked up, including the opposite Wandering Bar, whose windows were pitch black. The large frog that had ’messed up’ a few days ago was nowhere to be seen, leaving the Gem Cat without a place to inquire about the Wandering Wizard’s whereabouts.
And number 99 on the Pedestrian Street, San You Bookstore.
Ha.
It never had any hope.
The Gem Cat passed by the bookstore’s window, thinking that—it already knew there was no one in the store, but passed by because the bookstore was too close to its own little shop, just accidentally passing by.
Leaving the Pedestrian Street and catching a glimpse of the Trident Office’s dark office with the corner of its eye, the Gem Cat finally gave up and turned towards northern Beta Town.
It originally didn’t know many people.
Even fewer familiar faces could provide ’meaningful’ information.
Unlike other places in Beta Town, the North District seemed slightly lively tonight; the Gem Cat, running along the street, surprisingly spotted several Northern District Wizards. But they were all hurried, and their aura wasn’t very friendly, so even upon seeing a few familiar faces, it wisely decided not to greet them.
When it reached Gu Diao Street, the feeling of ’discord’ grew stronger.
However, this time, what discomforted the Gem Cat wasn’t the hurried Northern District Wizards but today’s number 33 on Gu Diao Street—it was the arch-like entrance, blue brick walls, the small garden behind the wall, the plum trees at the garden’s corners, and the two-story building at the courtyard’s end—every corner of this space gave the Gem Cat a peculiar feeling.
An overall sense of difference.
Even breathing felt as if its nose was slightly itchy.
As it entered, several black-robed wizards happened to be leaving.
"Where did this black cat come from?"
One of the black-robed ones noticed the Gem Cat sneaking along the corner and furrowed his brows: "It doesn’t seem to be on the personnel list for 33."
You’re not a Northern District Wizard either, the Gem Cat murmured inwardly, its feet light under it as it was suddenly hoisted up by a vine in front of the strangers.
Someone recorded its form in a notebook, someone pinched a few of its hairs, and someone held up a small mirror, examining it thoroughly from front to back.
Until a black-robed fellow extended a gloved finger, intending to probe the Gem Cat’s rectum for hidden items, the Gem Cat finally couldn’t hold back its irritation: "—Who are you people? What are you doing? I’m here to find Korma! Korma? Korma!"
The black robes exchanged glances.
Daring to openly call a Big Wizard’s name was surely not any ordinary wizard.
They suddenly felt a bit troubled.
The wooden door of the Sakura Pub quietly opened, and the pub owner’s calm voice came from inside: "—This cat has been reported at Professor Yi’s; you can go ask and verify."
The black robes then released the irritated black cat and respectfully bowed towards the interior before quietly leaving.
The Gem Cat landed but didn’t enter immediately; instead, it stared thoughtfully at the backs of those departing black robes. With its clumsy divination skill, it could faintly sense that it had finally found the right place.
