High School of Demon Hunting
Chapter 2887 - 1107: Escaping with the Sun
Chapter 2887: Chapter 1107: Escaping with the Sun
In the evening, it rained on Buji Island.
A really heavy rain.
Just like the earlier eclipse, this was also a weather event outside the Astronomical Observatory’s predictions.
Only now, no one was in the mood to complain about the Observatory’s negligence. The young Wizards of dorm 403 were all crammed together on the narrow balcony, clutching the window frame, anxiously staring into the distance.
The eclipse had not yet passed, so it was pitch-black outside.
But in that darkness, every now and then a few thin streaks of lightning would flash, illuminating vast swathes of gloomy black clouds, and those two vague, colossal figures confronting each other behind the curtain of clouds.
"—One of them is Old Yao."
Zheng Qing’s tone was absolutely certain, and his companions didn’t question him at all. After all, they had all taken part in the Battle of the Black Prison; that three-headed, many-armed Giant Ape true form was far too distinctive. Even through the thick dark clouds and heavy night, with only a split-second glimpse when lightning struck, no one could mistake it.
"The other one I don’t recognize."
Xin Fat Man hugged his laptop, looking deeply moved, with none of the usual excitement he had when he caught a big story. He knew that no matter how brilliant an article he wrote, nothing that happened today would ever be published: "—I just never imagined there really would be a Wizard daring to invade the First University!"
"Why do you think that’s a Wizard?" Dylan tilted his head, sounding a bit curious.
"Out of respect for a Legendary existence." The Fat Wizard reminded him with the smooth tact of a Journalist: "It’s better than using ’Demon’ or some other lousy word... that’s a Legend!"
"How long do you think they’ll keep fighting?" Zheng Qing nudged the PhD beside him.
"Hard to say."
Xiao Xiao adjusted his glasses, squinting as if that would help him see more clearly, but it was pitch-black outside, and everyone was just waiting for the next bolt of lightning: "—Battles between Legends are cross-dimensional. Like those two figures we just saw—there’s a high chance they’re only the afterimages those beings left in this World. Their true bodies have long since crossed into places infinitely high and infinitely distant... time is meaningless to existences at that level. Just like in the Black Prison. We felt that their battle didn’t last long, but that was only because they didn’t drag us into it..."
Crack!
Another bolt of lightning tore across the "night sky."
The PhD’s voice cut off abruptly, like a duck being grabbed by the neck. Almost at the same moment, the other youths leaning over the balcony all held their breath together.
Then, they were stunned to find that behind the lightning there was nothing but emptiness; the colossal figures that had been facing off behind the clouds had vanished without a trace. But the eclipse still did not fade.
Pa-pa-la!
Bean-sized raindrops hammered against the window glass, crackling noisily, echoing the endless, drum-like thunder rolling through the "night," making the Young Wizards holed up in the dorm feel even more oppressed.
...
...
It wasn’t only the Young Wizards on Dormitory Hill who were stunned.
Their vice president was, too.
The fact that the Black Snail which had escaped from the Black Prison had come to Buji Island surprised him a bit, but not enough to shock him. What truly exceeded this Elder Wizard’s expectations was that when the Black Snail traded blows with Old Yao, it then bolted off in a flash.
If foolish no longer remembered the last time he’d been this astonished.
He had been in the Legendary Realm for too long, and had grown used to Wizards at this Rank often valuing face over minor gains. For Legendary Wizards, there are very few things in this World worth paying attention to—Death, for instance. Death is a practically unattainable concept for them. Even for the ancients, completely erasing a Legend from the river of time is extremely difficult; more often they simply choose to suppress or seal.
So it was extremely rare for an existence at the Legendary Rank to behave like that Black Snail—after squaring off against a Wizard of the same Rank, and before any serious blows were exchanged, it just turned tail and ran.
Without the slightest bearing of a Legendary Wizard.
"—I just said it: I really wasn’t the one who stole your Sun." The Dark Council Chairman let out a heavy sigh of relief at this moment.
As that Black Snail fled, the Sun’s aura rapidly receded with it, allowing the Legends present to quickly lock onto the true culprit behind the eclipse.
Elder Ruoyu tapped his Magic Wand lightly, fixing Six Fingers with a deep look.
"Whether you were or weren’t, you still owe the school an explanation."
"Explanations can wait; any time is fine. But right now, isn’t the most urgent thing to get the Sun back?"
The Dark Council Chairman volunteered, offering If foolish a condition he couldn’t refuse: "I’ll go assist your Jiuyou, the Nine Has Dean, help you retrieve the Sun—that will prove my damned bad luck. You can stay in the First University with full Assurance, no need to worry about anything else."
It was indeed a very sound suggestion.
There was no need to worry about being lured away, and the chance of catching that Black Snail and retrieving the Sun would be raised as well—and as for the possibility of the Black Snail joining Six Fingers to ambush Old Yao, that thought flashed through If foolish’s mind and vanished at once.
Counting on two Legends—especially when that Black Snail had only advanced not long ago—to besiege Old Yao, a seasoned Elder Wizard with rich hunting experience, was utterly impossible.
In a one-on-one duel, Old Yao might not be Six Fingers’ match.
But if Old Yao simply wanted to Escape, Six Fingers and the Black Snail alone couldn’t stop him. For Wizards at the Legendary level, as long as they don’t care about saving face, running away is very easy.
Elder Ruoyu fell silent for a moment.
Then he gave a very slight nod.
His Wand gave another tiny tap.
"—In that case, since we have a guest from afar, forgive me for not seeing you off!"
Bang!
The Dark Council Chairman standing at his side was suddenly struck as if by a massive iron hammer from the front; his figure shot out like a cannonball, whistling as he was smashed into the boundless darkness, disappearing without a trace in the blink of an eye.
"This trick again! Is everyone at the First University incapable of saying a proper goodbye?!"
The Dark Council Chairman’s slightly helpless voice drifted through the air, but only as a lingering echo, and in the next instant it was shredded to pieces by the gale winds surging up all around.
Elder Ruoyu did not answer.
His figure turned, and he vanished from the white lighthouse.
In the next instant.
He appeared between the two Giant God Soldiers, floating beside Professor Emma.
"That Black Snail took the Sun away. Old Yao has already gone after it, but he won’t be able to get hold of it in a short time." He lowered his brows, briefly and clearly explaining what was happening outside: "—As for Six Fingers, we’ll let him go for now. But there can’t be no Sun in the sky. You go out; I’ll stay here and keep watch."
Professor Emma immediately understood Elder Ruoyu’s meaning.
"Indeed, that’s the most appropriate plan."
She nodded slightly, then glanced again at the two giant corpses seated within the Cloud Sea, letting out a soft sigh: "Just as well, I don’t like guarding this place either. Every time I look at Them, it makes one feel sad."
