Chapter 340: Chapter 189: Marquis Changning—Li Wen (2)
Despite his profound mastery of saber techniques and his lightning-fast Body Technique, Ding Jun was overwhelmed by the frenzied assault of the five geniuses with the blood of Demon Saints.
His armor was damaged in several places, blood trickled from the corner of his mouth, and his aura had weakened considerably. He was in grave danger.
In the midst of the siege, the five Demon Race elites were rapidly communicating telepathically.
"Remember, we only have two minutes for this attack! The moment time is up, we retreat immediately!"
The leader was a burly Tiger Demon covered in crimson scales. Its blood-red eyes scanned the battlefield warily as it stressed the point again.
"Boss, isn’t two minutes too short?" hissed an Emerald Green Snake Demon, which had assumed its true form and was coiled in mid-air. A hint of unwillingness flashed in its strange, vertical pupils.
"We won’t be able to kill many humans at all. We went through so much trouble to infiltrate the Human Realm, and we haven’t sensed any powerful ambushes this time. How about extending it to three minutes? Three minutes would be perfect—enough to kill this troublesome captain and then clean up the other few at the Great Sun Realm."
"Right, retreating after just two minutes is definitely too tight," a short, lightning-fast Mouse Demon chimed in.
"Last time, we were just shy of killing that God and Demon captain. Three minutes sounds just right to me. The risk isn’t that great."
"You two idiots!" a White-Furred Fox Demon with sharp eyes immediately retorted.
"Do you really think the Human Race’s reinforcement speed is set in stone? Their support was slow the last few times, sure, but are you willing to bet it’ll be slow every single time?
What if they’re a minute or two faster just once? We’ll all die here! Only by staying alive can we kill more humans. If we’re dead,
we’ll have nothing! Besides, what makes you so sure the humans don’t have a deeper ambush prepared? The boss’s caution is the right call."
"The White Fox is right," a turtle demon with a gloomy aura added in a rumbling voice.
"A safe retreat and returning alive is what’s most important. As descendants of the Holy Race, we’re not desperate for this little bit of merit. Why risk our lives just to kill a few more humans?"
The leading red-scaled Tiger Demon narrowed its blood-red eyes, its voice leaving no room for doubt:
"Enough arguing. When two minutes are up, I am retreating. If you want to stay, be my guest. Don’t blame me for not warning you when you’re dead."
"Attack!" the Tiger Demon roared, instantly ending the telepathic exchange.
A ferocious light flared in the eyes of the five geniuses with the blood of Demon Saints. The Demon Power around them erupted without reservation as they simultaneously unleashed their long-brewing killing blows at Ding Jun in the center of their encirclement.
The red-scaled Tiger Demon opened its mouth and spat a breath of hyper-condensed lava that tore through the air. The Emerald Green Snake Demon shrieked as its poison domain suddenly contracted, transforming into thousands of Emerald Poison Needles that shot forward.
The short Mouse Demon’s figure flickered and vanished, reappearing at Ding Jun’s side a moment later, its sharp claws swiping at his waist with a cold glint that seemed to rip space itself. The White Fox’s eyes flared with pink light as a psychic assault stabbed directly into Ding Jun’s sea of consciousness.
The Turtle Demon let out a low growl, and a massive stone cage materialized from thin air, attempting to seal off all of Ding Jun’s escape routes.
The five overlapping killing blows were powerful enough to make an ordinary Marquis’s face change color.
Ding Jun’s pupils contracted violently. He desperately swung his saber to block and dodge, but the waterfall of his blade light was shattered again and again.
Amid a tremendous BOOM, his protective True Essence completely collapsed. As if struck by a massive hammer, he coughed up a large mouthful of blood.
His body flew backward like a kite with a broken string, smashing heavily into a cracked alloy wall. His aura faded to an extreme low; he had clearly suffered grievous injuries.
"We got him!" Bloodthirsty, savage grins appeared on the faces of the five demons as they pounced without hesitation, preparing to deliver the final blow to Ding Jun.
Just in the nick of time—
"Hmm?!"
The expressions of the five descendants of Demon Saints, once excited by the thrill of the kill, suddenly froze.
An intense warning, born from their most primal instincts, made the hair on their bodies stand on end. They all turned in unison to look toward the distant horizon.
A blinding flash of lightning tore across the sky, racing from the far horizon at a speed beyond their comprehension!
One moment it was at the edge of their vision; the next, the blurry, lightning-wreathed figure had appeared silently atop the broken wall of the underground fortress.
There was no earth-shattering boom, no vast explosion of energy.
There was only the figure standing silently, and a tyrannical, domineering, and suffocatingly terrifying aura that swept over the entire battlefield like a physical tidal wave.
The very air seemed to freeze in an instant. Even the deafening war cries and energy explosions seemed to falter, suppressed by this presence.
They didn’t even have time to see the newcomer’s face, much less react in any way.
The blurry figure on the wall simply raised a hand and made a grasping motion in the air.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Five thick bolts of purple lightning, like giant pythons descending from the Nine Heavens, materialized with perfect precision, instantly coiling around the five descendants of Demon Saints who were lunging at Ding Jun.
The destructive power within the lightning erupted!
"PUFF!" "PUFF!" "ARGH!"
The screams stopped abruptly.
The Emerald Green Snake Demon, the short Mouse Demon, and the White-Furred Fox Demon—the three Demon Race geniuses didn’t even have a chance to struggle before their bodies were carbonized, disintegrated, and annihilated in the violent lightning!
The leading red-scaled Tiger Demon and the gloomy Turtle Demon were the strongest, but they too were instantly and grievously wounded. Their bodies were charred black, their Demon Power was scattering, and they spewed blood wildly, their eyes filled with utter terror and despair.
"Not good!"
"It’s over!"
’It’s only been a little over a minute... how could a Marquis-rank God and Demon have arrived so quickly?!’ This was the final thought of the Emerald Green Snake Demon, the one who had argued for extending the time, before its consciousness faded, leaving only endless regret and fear.
The leading red-scaled Tiger Demon fought back the excruciating pain that threatened to tear its body apart and the paralyzing aftershocks of the lightning, its heart battered by overwhelming waves of shock.
