Chapter 1977 - 1971: Teamwork Matters Most

Nighttime.

A night ripe for murder, shrouded in darkness and wind.

Ye Ning yawned, looking at her clothes, then at her ankle, turning to Gu Qingcheng, "Hey Gu, look, this is really annoying, right? We’re all in this together now, working as a team in murder, can’t we just get rid of this thing?"

Gu Qingcheng cast her a look as if she were an idiot.

Ye Ning snorted, "Such a miser."

She continued, "You won’t, by accident, press something and make it explode, right? I mean, if I die from it, whatever, but we’re together, let’s not go down together, huh?"

"I’m not stupid," he said.

Ye Ning went on, "There’s one more thing. Tell me, with this thing, if you were to die, am I stuck wearing it for life?"

Gu Qingcheng went red, "I won’t die!"

Yet, he did stand up straighter and said slowly, "Well, if I did die, you would have to wear it forever because I designed it, and only I know how to remove it."

Ye Ning raised her middle finger in his direction.

QM piped up from the back, "Alright, stop dawdling, my big knife is itching to kill."

Ye Ning was dressed in tight, all-black attire, blending into the night like a shadow.

Gu Qingcheng was similarly dressed, and QM grumbled, "Ugh, I hate black. It clashes with my stunning looks, but fine, I’ll blend with you guys tonight since we’re a team."

Ye Ning ignored him, snorted, and walked out the door.

The three stood together outside the wall.

The night concealed their outfits; they chose a secluded spot. Soon, QM watched the surveillance from the room that transmitted information to him, revealing that the shift change had begun.

QM was the first to leap up, like a shadow, vaulting over the wall.

Ye Ning followed him up.

Ye Ning lazily watched QM. He moved swiftly, jumping in and observing carefully, while Ye Ning strolled casually, watching his cautious demeanor. She laughed, "Relax, no one’s around. They’re somewhere else."

Gu Qingcheng looked at her, as if questioning how she knew.

QM turned back to look at her and suddenly understood.

"Ugh, hate people like you making a big deal out of killing someone, needing a whole crew for one hit." Then he told Gu Qingcheng, "Don’t be fooled, she seems solo now, but she’s wearing an earpiece."

Gu Qingcheng realized it; like before, the earpiece in her ear linked her to her partners.

Ye Ning said, "Why bother with the hard way when there’s a simpler method? What’s fun about sneaking around like a thief?"

In Ye Ning’s earpiece, Gong Ye said, "Come on, don’t tease. You’ve got a bomb strapped on you but still manage to kid around. By the way, infrared shows movement, red dots likely mean someone’s coming with police dogs, be careful."

Ye Ning directed the others, "There’s someone ahead, let’s go this way."

QM explained to Gu Qingcheng, "They’re using infrared thermal imaging to spot people. Someone over there’s helping her monitor; she’s not doing it all alone."

Ye Ning told Gu Qingcheng, "Kid, this is what teamwork’s about. Killing solo is boring and requires disguises. Just look, isn’t this way easier?"
