But Shen Tang didn’t.

She only looked at him coldly, the emotionlessness in her eyes bordering on cruelty.

That made the string in Liu Ye’s heart pull even tighter.

"You’re not afraid?" His fingers tightened slightly, his voice hoarse, carrying a barely audible tremor.

"I am." Shen Tang said, "But I know you won’t press it."

Liu Ye’s finger froze.

"You’ve already hesitated." Shen Tang’s voice was very soft, as if stating a fact, "Liu Ye, you’ve had plenty of chances to kill me, but you never did. Why?"

Liu Ye’s expression shifted over and over, finally settling into something almost feral, "Shut up—"

"You don’t dare face the answer, so you can only run." Shen Tang cut him off, "Run to the deep sea, run behind the army, and now you want to run under the protection of the Divine Hall. You hate females, hate feelings, but more than anyone you’re terrified of being abandoned—"

"I said shut up!"

Liu Ye roared, and his thumb slammed down on the activation button.

A blinding red light flared in the center of the disc.

It’s over.

Shen Tang’s mind went completely blank.

Xiao Jin and Lu Xiao moved at the same time.

Xiao Jin lashed out a streak of Thunder, trying to shatter the disc, Lu Xiao’s Wind Blade following right on its heels.

But the barrier rising around Liu Ye bounced all of their attacks away.

The red light grew stronger and stronger, the air beginning to warp.

Tearing Space took time, but at most only a dozen seconds.

In these final seconds, Liu Ye’s expression suddenly changed.

The savagery and madness drained from his face, replaced by a kind of almost devout gentleness and grim resolve.

His left hand snapped up, clamping hard around his right hand that held the disc.

"Jia Lan?!" Shen Tang cried out.

"Run..." Jia Lan’s voice squeezed out of Liu Ye’s throat, hoarse and labored, "Tangtang... run..."

He was fighting Liu Ye for control of the body.

Liu Ye’s enraged voice exploded from the same mouth, "Are you insane?! Get back!"

"I won’t let you hurt her." Jia Lan forced the words out, "I absolutely won’t allow you to hurt her! If you dare touch her, I’ll die with you."

Liu Ye was livid, "You think you can threaten me?"

"You can try me."

The young man’s right hand began to tremble, the red light on the disc flickering. His left hand clamped like a vise around his right wrist, nails digging hard into flesh, blood dripping through his fingers.

"This body belongs to both of us." Jia Lan said word by word, "You blow it up, I’ll blow up your sea of consciousness. If Tangtang can’t live, don’t even think about surviving either."

"You—"

"I mean it."

Jia Lan’s voice was very soft, the calm before a storm, holding a deeper, deathly kind of madness, "If she dies, I die, and don’t even think you’ll walk away alone!"

Liu Ye went rigid all over.

That idiot wasn’t bluffing; he was really ready to go down with him.

All for that female.

Liu Ye suddenly laughed, bitter and self-mocking.

"You win."

He abruptly released the disc, using all his strength to hurl it toward the sea. The disc burst into a ball of fire in midair, fragments raining down into the waves.

Almost at the same time, Liu Ye spun around, both hands tearing hard to either side—

Space split open like cloth, ripped into a jagged fissure.

"Next time we meet, I’ll kill you myself." Liu Ye’s voice came from beyond the rift, hoarse and weary.

At the instant he stepped into the crack, Xiao Jin turned into a Black Panther, his powerful, lean form wrapped in Thunder as he lunged for the Space rift that was already beginning to heal, and dove in right after him.

"Jin!"

He moved too fast; before Shen Tang’s cry even fell, Xiao Jin was gone.

The fissure slammed shut with a thunderous boom behind him, leaving only a faint halo of light slowly fading in the air.

And the moment the rift vanished, it triggered a massive Space turbulence. Ferocious energy swept out like a tsunami, as if countless terrifying shells were slamming down. The sea erupted with thunderous blasts, mountains shattered into endless fragments, and many startled beasts in the sky went mad, attacking everywhere.

Lu Xiao hurriedly carried Shen Tang to a safe zone and used his massive body to shield her tightly beneath him, so that the energy outside and the flying debris wouldn’t injure her.

When the chaos finally subsided—

A thick layer of rubble and dust had accumulated on Lu Xiao’s body, almost burying him.
