“And don’t think I don’t know that all these years, you’ve been secretly supporting her. I may not say anything, but that doesn’t mean I don’t know, nor does it mean I approve of what you’re doing.”

“Everything you have right now belongs to me, Henry Gordon. As long as I don’t agree, I can take back everything you possess. Do you understand?”

Agnes detected a hint of threat in Henry’s tone, and her body trembled slightly.

So, he had known all along about what she’d been doing behind his back.

Had he remained silent all this time, waiting for the right moment to use this against her

as leverage?

Agnes’ eyes reddened slightly. She opened her mouth, then closed it again, unable to speak.

But in the end, her hand still fell limply to her side...

**********

The next morning.

After Alana and Stephan got up and had breakfast, they packed a bowl of nutritious

congee and went to the hospital to visit Grandma.

As soon as she stepped into the ward, she heard Miranda, in the bed next to hers,

snoring so loudly it sounded like a pig’s squeal.

Looking up, she saw Miranda lying in bed, covered by a blanket, sleeping soundly, drool trickling from the corner of her mouth, her snoring deafening.

Her grandmother had long since been woken by Miranda’s snoring, her brow furrowed in utter disgust.

Last night, that woman’s snoring had kept her from getting a good night’s sleep.

But since she was a patient in need of care, she couldn’t really say anything.

Alana and Stephan walked in hand in hand. When Grandma saw them, her

expression instantly softened.

Alana said softly, “Grandma, I’ve come to see you.”

Stephan chimed in as well. Standing beside Alana, he gave off the distinct

impression of a husband following his wife’s lead.

“Grandma, Alana and I have come to visit you too.”

Hearing this, Grandma’s eyes crinkled into a smile.

“Oh my. Seeing you both has really lifted my spirits.”

Alana pulled up a chair and sat down by Grandma’s bedside, asking kindly,

“Grandma, have you had breakfast yet?”

Grandma shook her head. “Not yet. Your aunt was too busy sleeping, she was snoring like a pig. I couldn’t even wake her

up. How could she possibly care about me?”

Alana frowned, thinking to herself that she really should find two caregivers to look

after Grandma, it would be much more reliable.

After all, professionals should handle professional matters.

Her aunt and the others were used to being so laid-back; they had absolutely no experience taking care of the elderly.

“Grandma, I brought you some porridge. Let me feed you a little first.”

“Okay.”

Stephan stepped forward proactively, pressed a button on the hospital bed, and raised the headrest slightly to make it easier for Grandma to eat.

Alana also took out the porridge and, using a spoon, fed Grandma one spoonful at a time.

Grandma cooperated willingly and ate more than half the bowl.

The porridge was warm and nourishing.

After eating it, her pale complexion improved considerably.

With her energy and spirits restored, Grandma couldn’t help but become more talkative. Especially when faced with Stephan, that handsome, nearly six-foot-tall guy, her granddaughter’s boyfriend, she was very curious.

“Mr. Hudson, I didn’t get a chance to ask you yesterday, how did you end up dating my Lana?”

Stephan’s brow twitched slightly, but before he could answer,

Fearing he might tell the truth, Alana couldn’t help but interject, “Grandma, why are you asking him and not me?”

Grandma laughed. “I want to hear it from your boyfriend. Is that okay?”

Alana bit her lip, shot Stephan a glance tinged with playful reproach, and said, “Stephan, Grandma’s asking you, you’d better answer properly.”

Stephan raised an eyebrow and said deliberately, “How do you want me to answer Grandma? Should I tell her you were lusting after my sexiness, shamelessly pestering me, and trying to be my girlfriend?”

Alana’s eyes widened instantly.

The world has turned upside down!

It was clearly him who was being shameless and persistent, begging her to be his girlfriend!

“You...you’re talking nonsense!”

Stephan saw the girl’s face flush and found her utterly adorable. Smiling, he continued to tease her, “How am I talking nonsense? Don’t you have even the slightest bit of interest in me?”

Alana blushed. “No, no!”

“Grandma, don’t believe him! He’s the one who kept pestering me and chasing after me, I wasn’t the one being clingy!”

Grandma giggled as she listened; this young couple was truly adorable.

The more she watched them, the more she thought they were a perfect match.

Miranda had already been woken up by the commotion. Hearing Alana and Stephan teasing and joking with each other, she couldn’t help but roll her eyes.

Flirting like that...don’t they know when to stop? Don’t they even ask if she wants to hear it?

She just wanted to get a good night’s sleep, but damn it, she was woken up by all that lovey-dovey nonsense!

Hmph, as the saying goes, “Those who flaunt their love die young!”

Did anyone really say that?

She didn’t care!

Alana heard a faint sound coming from the next room. She turned her head and saw Miranda lying on her side, staring at her with wide eyes.

“Auntie, are you awake?”

Miranda snorted coldly and sat up quickly. “With you shouting that loud, how could I not wake up?”

“I did it on purpose. I just didn’t want to see you sleeping so soundly.”

“You!” Miranda clenched her teeth, about to snap at Alana, but when she saw Stephan’s stern, handsome face and his icy gaze, she forced herself to swallow the curse that was on the tip of her tongue.

She took a moment to compose herself, then asked with a forced smile, “Lana, you brought breakfast for your grandmother, did you bring any for your aunt here?”

Alana didn’t give her an inch. “Nope. If you want some, go buy your own.”

Miranda gasped.

That little brat!

Now that she’s got someone looking out for her, she’s getting even more arrogant!

She turned and went straight to the elderly woman in bed to complain.

“Mom, look at the granddaughter you’ve raised, she has absolutely no manners. I’m her aunt, her elder, after all. Is that any way to speak to an elder?”

Grandma frowned. “Lana didn’t curse at you, did she? How is that being impolite?”

“She just didn’t buy you breakfast. You’re perfectly capable...why didn’t you go buy it yourself?”

Miranda was indignant. “Mom, I took such good care of you last night. How can you take sides with a stranger instead of helping me?”

Grandma replied irritably, “Alana is my granddaughter...how could she be a stranger?”

“Besides, you say you were taking care of me, but you ran off to the bed next to mine and slept like a log, snoring like a pig, impossible to wake up. Is that what you call taking care of me?”

“Don’t try to make yourself look good!”

Miranda clenched her teeth, dying to curse at the old woman for being so ungrateful!

She’d even stayed behind to keep vigil and take care of the old woman, what more could she possibly want?

But she dared only curse under her breath; she didn’t dare say it outright.

After all, she was still eyeing the old woman’s secret stash of cash and the deed to the family home back in their hometown.

All told, it amounted to several million, she’d take whatever share she could get. After all, who would ever turn down extra money?

“Oh, I’ll be more careful next time. Don’t sweat the small stuff.”

Grandma snorted and didn’t bother to make a fuss about it anymore.

After all, she had already seen clearly what kind of people she had raised.

She ignored Miranda and turned to look at Stephan, flashing him a kind smile. “Young man, come sit by my side with Lana. Grandma has a lot to ask you both.”

Stephan obediently sat down on the edge of the bed. “Grandma, just tell me straight out, what’s on your mind.”

Grandma nodded and asked with a smile, “Do you mind if I ask you a few personal questions?”

Stephan replied, “Not at all. Ask whatever you like, Grandma. I’ll answer anything I can.”

“All right, all right.”

Grandma had a straightforward nature; she didn’t beat around the bush. Whatever she wanted to ask, she asked directly.

“Where are you from?”

“I’m from Critport. My parents are alive and well. I’m an only child. My family is fairly well-off, we have a car and a house, and I have no financial debts.”

Grandma was taken aback. She had merely asked where Stephan was from, but she hadn’t expected him to provide such a detailed answer.

Still, these were exactly the things she’d been wondering about.

And, on the surface, his circumstances seemed quite favorable.
