Li Weichuan froze.

He didn’t quite understand why Xie Huaizheng was looking at him with such hostile eyes.

After all, the last time they met, Xie Huaizheng’s gaze had been reasonably friendly.

However, being used to ignoring people, he had no intention of reacting to Xie Huaizheng’s stare.

It was Su Zhaozhao who sensed something was wrong. Noticing Xie Huaizheng’s icy glare, she immediately reached out, took his arm, and pointed at the spareribs in the distance. "I want to eat some ribs," she said to him.

Xie Huaizheng immediately served her a piece and asked, "What else do you want?"

He then piled her plate with braised pork, stewed fish, and spicy chicken.

Su Zhaozhao quickly said, "That’s enough, that’s enough! This is plenty!"

She had only asked him to get her food because she sensed his constant jealousy and wanted to distract him.

In reality, there was no way she could eat this much.

’Sigh, Li Weichuan is just a child. He’s only just recovered a bit and is starting to interact with people.’

’I only exchanged a few more words with him. Why is he still staring at the boy with that icy glare?’

’He’s actually getting competitive with a child. You’re so petty, Xie Huaizheng!’

After dinner, they sat and chatted for a while.

Then, they prepared to leave.

Li Tiantian suddenly told Su Zhaozhao to wait, then rushed back into her room and came out holding a large pile of books.

She said to Su Zhaozhao, "Here, these are my three years of high school textbooks. I hope they can help you. If there’s anything you don’t understand, you can ask me. But school starts for me in a few days, so I’ll be gone. You can ask Wei Chuan; his grades are top-notch!"

Li Tiantian had tied the thick stack of books with a rope to make them easier for Su Zhaozhao to carry.

"Tian Tian, thank you so much. This is exactly what I need." Su Zhaozhao was touched; she hadn’t expected Li Tiantian to give her her own textbooks.

Xie Huaizheng took the books and carried them as they left.

On the way back, the two walked hand in hand, with Xie Huaizheng carrying the textbooks from Li Tiantian in his other hand.

He added, "If you need more, I can have my family send you all my textbooks from Beijing, along with study materials and things like that."

"No need. Let me go through these first," Su Zhaozhao said with a small laugh.

Thinking about what had just happened, she couldn’t help but squeeze Xie Huaizheng’s hand. "One more thing, Xie Huaizheng. You really are so petty. Why are you always getting jealous over nothing?"

She had been a little worried that Xie Huaizheng’s fierce expression would scare Li Weichuan.

Li Weichuan had just started to open up. If he was frightened by Xie Huaizheng and retreated back into his shell like a snail, all her previous efforts would have been for nothing.

"I can’t control it," Xie Huaizheng said softly, his gaze fixed on a distant streetlight.

"I’m sorry, Zhaozhao. It doesn’t matter how many times you tell me. This is something I can’t change."

Of course, he knew he was in the wrong, but he cared too much about Su Zhaozhao. Plus, he knew that he wasn’t the one she was betrothed to as a child.

She could leave him at any moment, which naturally made Xie Huaizheng incredibly anxious about her.

He had this mistaken feeling that if she wasn’t right under his nose, she might disappear at any second.

He could only hope it was all just his imagination.

Listening to Xie Huaizheng’s matter-of-fact tone, Su Zhaozhao was so exasperated she almost laughed.

But in the end, she rested her head against his arm and nuzzled it. "Alright, alright. I know you like me, but you need to keep your jealousy in check from now on. Don’t scare other people."

She knew that Xie Huaizheng was ultimately reasonable.

As anxious as he was about her, he still respected her and let her do what she wanted without interfering.

He would just wear himself out with his own thoughts.

Su Zhaozhao didn’t want him to exhaust himself with this internal struggle; it wasn’t good for his health.

Often, physical ailments stem from emotional distress.

Xie Huaizheng was a proud and untamable person, and she hoped he would always be that way.

"Okay, I understand," Xie Huaizheng said.

Back at home, Xie Huaizheng placed all the books neatly on the bookshelf. Three years’ worth of books was quite a lot.

Su Zhaozhao didn’t plan on reading them right away. She felt her most urgent task was to re-familiarize herself with English so she wouldn’t forget words when it was time to teach.

However, introductory English was quite simple for her, starting with learning the alphabet.

But it was also quite difficult. After all, the children had never been exposed to English before. That first step, from zero to one, was going to be a challenge.

When Xie Huaizheng came out after his shower, he saw Su Zhaozhao reading on the sofa.

Under the incandescent light, the girl’s long hair fell over her left shoulder as she held an English book, studying it intently.

Her bright features held a gentle expression, with a hint of classical charm.

’So beautiful.’

Xie Huaizheng couldn’t help but sigh with emotion. He was so captivated he couldn’t even speak, just staring at Su Zhaozhao.

He felt like he could stare at Su Zhaozhao like this for a lifetime.

Hearing the sound, Su Zhaozhao looked up at Xie Huaizheng.

One look and she froze.

Xie Huaizheng wasn’t even wearing a pajama top.

His upper body was bare, revealing firm, well-defined muscles covered in numerous scars.

The wounds from his last mission had already scabbed over. Some of the scabs had fallen off, leaving behind faint pink marks.

She knew it was thanks to the effects of the spiritual spring water that Xie Huaizheng’s injuries had healed so well.

He was wearing a pair of shorts, revealing straight, long legs defined by lean muscle.

Aside from when they were in bed, Su Zhaozhao rarely saw Xie Huaizheng like this.

It was... far too tempting.

But then Su Zhaozhao thought about her own body. Even with the help of the spiritual spring water, she still felt a bit sore.

Because Xie Huaizheng had been far too rough with her.

As a result, although the spirit was willing, she was also a little scared, and her body was still uncomfortable.

She stood up as well and said to Xie Huaizheng, "I’m going to take a shower too."

"Alright, go ahead."

Xie Huaizheng didn’t try to stop her. He had seen the initial surprise on her face when she looked at his body.

And the hesitation that followed.

He couldn’t help but smile. ’Looks like I can use my good looks to tempt Su Zhaozhao after all.’

However, it was probably because he had been too rough with her this afternoon.

He guessed that for the next few days, Su Zhaozhao most likely wouldn’t want him to touch her.

In that case, he would just have to endure it.

But right now, Xie Huaizheng was more concerned about when he should finally lay his cards on the table with Su Zhaozhao.

The sooner, the better, of course.

He was completely unprepared and didn’t know how to bring it up.

’Maybe I’ll just wait until after Su Zhaozhao finishes her shower and tell her then.’

Xie Huaizheng took a deep breath, exhaled, and then chugged two glasses of water to calm himself down.
