They came back once they heard Lin Tian promising free repairs on their tools. It made them happy, knowing their long-standing problems would finally get sorted out thanks to Lin Tian.

Lin Tian watched them leave the area near his house, one by one. Slowly, the sky turned orange as evening began to close in.

He and An Yue went inside to get ready for dinner. An Yue asked Lin Tian a few times about the man named Wei.

"I met him on my way to town, we talked a lot along the way," Lin Tian answered.

"What does he do? Is he a woodcutter? Why are you looking forward to him coming tomorrow?" An Yue asked.

She poured tea from the pot into Lin Tian’s wooden cup. He enjoyed it, sipping it slowly, feeling the warm tea flow down his throat.

"Nothing, really. He doesn’t have steady work."

"Really?" An Yue asked.

Lin Tian nodded, then turned to look at An Yue and explained Wei Hutong’s situation, his current life, his past, and the troubles he’d been through.

An Yue listened closely, feeling sympathetic to what she heard. She hadn’t realized how drastically Wei Hutong’s life had changed because of the Yuanmo Sect disaster.

"That disaster really did have a huge impact on mortal lives," An Yue murmured.

Lin Tian nodded briefly, finishing off his tea. An Yue poured more from the pot into his cup.

"That’s exactly why, when wars break out between sects, it’s the mortal world that suffers the most, since they have no power to stand against cultivators."

"You’re right, cultivators are really supposed to be the ones keeping the balance of the world," An Yue added.

A sudden crash of thunder rumbled from the sky, startling both Lin Tian and An Yue.

He opened the window and looked far into the distance, watching a night sky with no rain, yet thunder was crashing loudly for no clear reason.

"What’s going on?" An Yue asked.

Lin Tian turned and activated his qi aura sight. His gaze sharpened, piercing through the walls of the house, past the rumbling black clouds, and he spotted several unfamiliar cultivators approaching the sect.

"Someone’s arrived at the Lingxian Sect."

"What? Who is it? We should go back, husband," An Yue said.

"I don’t think that’s necessary," Lin Tian answered. "Their strongest cultivator is only Mid Nascent Soul, not a real threat."

"With the strength of the sect’s barrier walls, they can be driven off easily."

An Yue saw the confidence on Lin Tian’s face and decided to trust him completely on this.

She felt certain that what he said was true, given how much more experience he had than she did.

"In that case, I’ll go cook us dinner," An Yue said.

Lin Tian glanced over and nodded, watching An Yue head to the kitchen to prepare the ingredients.

But while she was cutting vegetables, her body suddenly swayed and lost its balance.

In a flash, Lin Tian moved from the wooden table and appeared right beside her. His hands caught An Yue, letting her lean into his embrace.

"Husband? I suddenly feel so weak."

Lin Tian carried An Yue and brought her to the bedroom. She lay back on the soft bed, her hand holding onto Lin Tian’s warm one.

"I’m sorry for always being such a burden to you," An Yue murmured.

"You’re not a burden to me at all. I’m glad I get to be by your side when you need me."

"I’ll do the cooking, you rest tonight," Lin Tian said. "I’ll bring dinner to you here later."

An Yue agreed, letting go of Lin Tian’s hand and letting him head back to the kitchen.

His eyes took in the vegetables and ingredients laid out on the kitchen table, but there was one important problem.

I have no idea how to cook.

Lin Tian stood there with his hands on his hips, not sure what to do. Then he glanced to the side and remembered there was a simple food stall in the village, open at night.

"Maybe I should just go buy food for her instead of trying to cook and messing it up."

Lin Tian glanced briefly toward the bedroom, then left the house, heading for the food stall. It wasn’t far, about seven minutes on foot.

The stall’s entrance was open, and he saw a few villagers he recognized, enjoying their dinner. They knew Lin Tian, greeting him with waves, and he returned their greetings warmly.

He walked up to the counter and ordered their best dish to take home. The stall owner understood and got to work preparing it.

"I rarely see your wife out and about, Brother Lin," a woman said.

Lin Tian turned and smiled at her, "Yeah, she’s not feeling too well because of her pregnancy."

"Oh, your wife’s pregnant? Must still be early on, right?"

"That’s right," Lin Tian said.

"I was the same way when I was carrying my second child, felt weak and drained for a few days, but then it went back to normal," she said.

"If you’d like, I can bring over my family’s remedy tomorrow to help with that weakness," she offered.

Lin Tian nodded eagerly, thanking her for her kindness. The woman didn’t mind helping at all, especially since Lin Tian had promised to fix their broken tools.

Before long, the stall owner brought over a pot of warm red meat soup, their signature dish. Lin Tian handed her a few tael and said his goodbyes.

He carried the hotpot in both hands, walking down the village road until he reached home. He opened the door and saw no sign of An Yue in the kitchen, she was still in the bedroom, waiting for him.

Lin Tian prepared two bowls, one for himself and one for An Yue. He poured the food into the first bowl and brought it to the bedroom for her to enjoy.

An Yue had fallen asleep on the bed, half her body neatly tucked under the blanket. Lin Tian set the bowl of soup and rice down on the wooden nightstand, then gently woke her up.

"Yue’er?"

An Yue woke up right away at the sound of Lin Tian’s voice. She smiled, catching the fragrant scent coming from the bowl on the nightstand.

"Let me feed you, just sit up, Yue’er."

"Okay, husband."
