Chapter 277 - 277: Please Help Me!
Kyle didn’t know how to feel about this, because from this alone, he could tell that this man loved his younger sister.
But this didn’t matter because he was a liability right now and should his sister return to him as he was right now.
There was nothing he could do, but Kyle was aware that he needed help, and that was what he was going to do.
He didn’t want law enforcement involved and luckily, the doctor also thought it would be best not to report it to the police.
Why? There was no usage of firearms, this was a typical wound from blunt force trauma and the police would only get involved if it was a dire situation.
However, there was no doubt drugs were flowing through his brain and had caused permanent damage to some of his nerves.
If he continued down on that path, it would have robbed him of everything that made him, “him”.
The doctor looked concerned because he hadn’t seen anything like this in his years of working in this field.
The drug didn’t have the calming effect most drugs had, it instead harnessed rage and gave hallucinations to those who took them.
This was a dangerous drug because it left the victim in a state of haze but Kyle had what he needed to know.
There was no way he could give this drug more publicity, if anything, he needed to bring an end to this.
Kyle had time with the man and didn’t need to look over his shoulder.
He asked everyone to excuse him as he wanted to talk to the man alone which was understandable considering he was the one who put him here.
He had excused himself earlier to speak with the doctor but the man didn’t feel on guard anymore.
“I’m sorry for putting you here,” Kyle was quick to apologize, understanding he was the victim in this situation.
He must have been fucked up to the point of not even registering what he was doing.
“Y-You look familiar,” The man said through the pain and Kyle kept quiet for a second.
“How much do you remember?” Kyle questioned and the man took a minute to think.
“Last week…?” The man stuttered but he didn’t sound sure of it but Kyle could tell he was going to go into withdrawals soon enough.
There was no way he would be fine with a single detox and he didn’t want Jasmine to see him when it happened.
“You attacked a police officer,” Kyle said and the man looked ashamed of this showing he recalled this event at least.
He must have been scared and confused so Kyle couldn’t blame him for his reaction because Priscilla did have an intimidating aura.
“I do remember that,” The man whispered even though he was barely audible.
“It is fine, I will sort it out for you. You have nothing to worry about but I cannot allow Jasmine back into your care,” Kyle told him firmly.
He wasn’t about to send Jasmine back into that world because she might not come out unscathed.
She was lucky because so many terrible things could have happened to her on the streets with her brother nowhere to protect her.
Her brother smiled at Kyle, he understood this man cared for his sister and maybe it was fate that sent him to beat him to a pulp on that day so his sister could have a chance at a normal life.
“You know… She told me about you,” The man said with a painful smile across his face.
“I was a fuck up even before my parents died, I had no idea how to raise a kid but I was forced to. I tried my best, you know? I did everything I could do to keep a roof over our head but it wasn’t enough. Maybe if I had gotten my life in order sooner things would have been different…” The man paused briefly trying to collect his thoughts.
Kyle just stood there, providing him an outlet to speak up.
“… I gave up but seeing her again in clean clothes reminded me why I hadn’t ended it all myself,” The man confessed.
“So I want to thank you for saving my sister from a fate I couldn’t save her from myself. Thank you for beating some sense into me,” The man showed his gratitude as tears streamed down his cheeks.
Kyle placed an arm on his shoulder but he knew he couldn’t leave this man to the system either.
He wouldn’t get the help he needed and the chances he would turn to crime were high.
“Do you want help?” Kyle asked but the man was confused.
“Help? There is no help for people like me,” The man responded, wiping the tears on his face.
“I can help you because I was once like you,” Kyle responded and in a rare moment of vulnerability, shared something with this man that no one in his life was aware of.
“… But you have to want it,” Kyle said and the man began to sob uncontrollably.
“P-Please… Help me,” The man sobbed and this hurt Kyle because he knew this fate could have been his if he didn’t get the system.
No, it could have been worse and there was no way Kyle was going to abandon this demon to fight his demons alone.
He was going to arm him with the weapons necessary to fight but he needed to want it.
“I will. You have my word,” These were the final words of Kyle before he left that room.
He planned to check him into the best rehab in this country so he could be reintegrated into society.
However, Kyle needed to know how best to handle an addict and luckily, he had Ella to guide him through the process as she was once an addict herself.
Kyle left the room with a smile, this feeling, made his heart pound because he knew this was the right thing to do.
He saw Jane and Cassandra chatting and even giggling amongst one another with Jasmine playing with the toy he got her.
This view right here was everything, this was his family.
