Harem Master: Seduction System

Chapter 429: The Vanguard's Clash

  • Next Chapter

Deep beneath the shattered ruins of the Iron-Cloud Administration Fortress, the subterranean catacombs vibrated with a terrifying, rhythmic intensity. The air was unnaturally cold, thick with the cloying, metallic stench of ancient, rotting marrow and the sharp copper tang of freshly spilled blood. Sickly green flames danced erratically in massive bronze braziers lining the jagged, obsidian-carved walls, casting long, monstrous shadows across the assembly of the damned.

Sect Master Gui Wuchang stood at the absolute precipice of the descending stone stairwell, his skeletal hands gripping the hilt of a jagged, weeping-willow cane. He was a ghastly figure, draped in tattered, multi-layered gray shrouds that seemed to writhe with trapped, spectral faces. As the supreme leader of the Nether-Soul Grudge Sect, his cultivation had long ago eclipsed the boundaries of a standard Peak Martial King, pushing into the twisted, unnatural realms of demonic augmentation.

Beside him stood High Priest Xue Ming of the Blood Lotus Cult. In stark contrast to Gui Wuchang’s withered decay, Xue Ming was a vision of corrupted, pulsating vitality. He wore flowing, immaculate crimson robes, his skin as pale as polished alabaster, but beneath the translucent surface of his flesh, his veins throbbed with a sickly, pitch-black liquid.

Both men were currently staring upward toward the cavernous ceiling, their expressions twisted into masks of absolute, paralyzing disbelief.

Just moments ago, they had felt the catastrophic, impossible severing of the Nine-Nether Annihilation Array. It had not been unraveled by a team of master array-breakers, nor had it been overwhelmed by a coordinated elemental bombardment from the Imperial Vanguard. It had been cleanly, brutally severed by a single, terrifyingly pure strike of sword intent.

“Impossible,” Gui Wuchang hissed, his voice a chorus of overlapping, raspy whispers that echoed unnaturally in the cavern. “The array was anchored to the abyssal leylines. To shatter it with pure physical intent… Noble Consort Cui Yulan does not possess such raw, barbaric force. Her lightning is precise, not blunt.”

“It matters not who wielded the blade,” High Priest Xue Ming replied, his tone chillingly calm, though his pale hands clenched into tight fists. He stepped forward, looking down at the hundreds of elite demonic disciples forming a defensive barricade at the base of the stairs. “The outer sanctum is breached. The Imperial dogs are pouring into the descent. We are the final bulwark before the Inner Ritual Chamber.”

“The Primordial Spirit is not yet fully tethered to the bone-ash matrix,” Gui Wuchang warned, his gray shrouds whipping around him as a localized wind of sorrow kicked up in the enclosed space. “If the righteous sects breach the heavy doors behind us before the blood-sacrifice reaches its zenith, the Demon Emperor’s revival will fracture. The backlash will consume us all.”

“Then we ensure they do not take a single step past this stairwell,” Xue Ming declared, his black veins bulging as he channeled his horrific Battle Aura. “We bleed them here. We drown them in despair. Hold the line!”

The answering roar from the demonic disciples was a cacophony of fanatical, bloodthirsty zeal. They raised their rusted iron lanterns and serrated blood-blades, preparing to sell their lives for the glory of the Abyssal Lord.

From the darkness of the spiraling, massive stone staircase above, the chaotic, deafening sounds of armor clashing, men screaming, and elemental Qi exploding echoed downward like an approaching avalanche.

The Imperial Vanguard, marching in lockstep with the iron-clad forces of Earl Fenghai, surged into the subterranean cavern.

At the absolute forefront of the charge was Corbin.

The heavily scarred warlord did not wait for the Imperial Guards to establish their defensive shield walls. He operated entirely on his own terrifying, brutal momentum. His dark leather armor was already slick with the blood of the cannon fodder from the upper levels, and his massive, unadorned greatsword hummed with the oppressive, gray energy of his Tyrant Emperor Domain.

Corbin’s pale blue eyes scanned the massive, green-lit cavern, his gaze instantly locking onto the two demonic leaders standing before the massive, sealed bronze doors at the far end of the chamber.

[System Notification: Multiple Hostile Entities Detected.]

[Target: Gui Wuchang. Rank: Peak Martial King (Demonic Augmentation). Threat Level: Severe.]

[Target: Xue Ming. Rank: Peak Martial King (Demonic Augmentation). Threat Level: Severe.]

[Objective: Eliminate Vanguard to access the Inner Sanctum.]

‘Two Peak Martial Kings,’ Corbin analyzed coldly, his grip tightening on his greatsword. ‘Perfect. More stepping stones for my Grandmaster’s Trial. Their demonic Qi is dense, but my intent will cut through it just like the array.’

“Out of my way, filth,” Corbin growled, his voice carrying the unnatural, heavy weight of his domain. He did not cast a spell; he simply kicked off the stone stairs with enough physical force to crater the granite beneath his boots.

He launched himself directly into the center of the demonic barricade, swinging his greatsword in a massive, horizontal arc.

“Desolate Heaven-Cleaving Sword Intent: Rupture!”

A blinding, jagged crescent of pure, white sword intent erupted from the blade. It slammed into the frontline of the Blood Lotus cultists, bypassing their physical armor entirely. Dozens of disciples were cleanly bisected at the waist, their upper halves sliding off their lower bodies in a fountain of gore before the concussive shockwave blasted their remains across the cavern.

“Do not let him advance!” Gui Wuchang screeched, slamming the butt of his weeping-willow cane against the obsidian floor.

The Sect Master did not draw a sword. He was a Martial King who had completely merged his Battle Aura with the twisted, psychological torment of his victims. He opened his skeletal maw and unleashed his signature technique.

“Sorrow Echoes: The Wailing Abyss!”

Gui Wuchang did not cast a magical soundwave; he vibrated his incredibly dense, demonic Battle Aura at a specific, horrifying frequency. The vibration traveled through the air and the very stone of the cavern, invisible to the naked eye but devastating to the internal meridians of his enemies.

The shockwave of despair slammed into the charging ranks of the Imperial Vanguard and the Earl’s army.

The effect was instantaneous and visceral. The regular guards, even those at the Expert and Master Martialist ranks, suddenly stopped dead in their tracks. Their eyes glazed over with sudden, profound emptiness. The Sorrow Echoes bypassed their physical profound-steel armor and struck directly at their Dantians, inducing a paralyzing, suicidal despair. Elite soldiers dropped their weapons, falling to their knees as they began to weep uncontrollably, blood leaking from their tear ducts and nostrils as their own Battle Auras turned against them, suffocating their will to live.

Even Corbin, caught in the vanguard, gritted his teeth as the oppressive vibration hit him. His Tyrant Emperor Domain flared aggressively, fighting to suppress the invasive frequency.

‘Damn it,’ Corbin thought, his momentum halting as he was forced to channel his Qi defensively to protect his internal organs from rupturing under the intense sorrow. ‘Area-of-effect psychological suppression. This is going to slow me down.’

“You dare utilize such foul tricks in the presence of the Imperial Vanguard?!” a voice like rolling thunder shattered the oppressive despair.

From the top of the stairs, a blinding flash of violet light illuminated the entire cavern, entirely washing out the sickly green glow of the braziers.

Noble Consort Cui Yulan descended like a vengeful goddess of war. Her dark violet profound-steel armor sparked with residual static, and her silver eyes burned with absolute, unyielding righteous fury. She did not fall victim to the Sorrow Echoes.

The Nine-Heavens Violet-Gold Suanni bloodline roaring within her veins was the absolute, primordial antithesis to demonic corruption.

“Violet Heavens: Purifying Roar!” Cui Yulan commanded, spinning her Heaven-Piercing Thunder Lance above her head.

She slammed the butt of the spear into the stone stairs. A massive, concussive ring of pure, crackling violet lightning expanded outward from the point of impact. The lightning was infused with the majestic, roaring intent of the mythical Suanni. As the violet ring washed over the Imperial Guards, the intense, pure Yang-Lightning instantly incinerated the invasive, despair-inducing Yin vibrations.

The guards gasped, their eyes snapping back to clarity as the suicidal fog lifted from their minds. They immediately snatched up their weapons, their Battle Auras flaring with renewed, vengeful vigor.

“Commander Jin! Commander Vane! Break their flanks!” Cui Yulan ordered, her spear leveling directly at Gui Wuchang. “The Sect Master is mine!”

With a deafening crack of displaced air, Cui Yulan launched herself forward, moving as a blur of violet light, completely bypassing the recovering vanguard.

Gui Wuchang’s skeletal face twisted into a snarl of hatred. He raised his cane, channeling the souls of a thousand tortured victims to form a swirling, spectral shield of wailing faces to intercept her charge.

As Cui Yulan engaged the master of the Grudge Sect, Commander Jin and Commander Vane surged forward to secure the breach.

“Iron-Blood Vanguard, form the wedge!” Commander Vane roared in his heavy accent, his massive broadsword glowing with brutal, heavy Earth Qi.

“Imperial Shield Wall, advance!” Commander Jin echoed, his golden halberd leading the charge of the surviving royal guards.

High Priest Xue Ming watched the two powerful commanders approach, his pale face breaking into a chilling, bloodthirsty smile. He did not retreat.

“You bring organized formations into the slaughterhouse of the Blood Lotus?” Xue Ming mocked softly. “How incredibly foolish.”

Xue Ming raised both of his hands, his long, razor-sharp fingernails extending. Without a flinch of pain, he violently slashed his own wrists.

Thick, pitch-black blood erupted from the deep wounds, but it did not spill onto the floor.

“Blood-Iron Meridian Art: The Crimson Chains of Tartarus!” Xue Ming chanted, his Peak Martial King aura exploding with a sickening, metallic resonance.

The spilled blood instantly defied gravity, floating into the air before violently hardening. The liquid transmuted in a fraction of a second into massive, incredibly thick chains composed of razor-sharp, jagged blood-iron. The chains were an extension of his very meridians, pulsating with his dense, corrupted Battle Aura.

With a flick of his wrists, the heavy chains lashed out with the speed of striking vipers.

CLANG! CLANG! SCRAAAAPE!

The blood-iron chains slammed into the advancing line of Imperial Guards. The sheer, overwhelming kinetic force behind the strikes dented their heavy profound-steel shields instantly. The razor-sharp edges of the chains whipped around the edges of the shields, slicing through armor joints and severing limbs with horrifying ease.

Commander Vane charged forward, bringing his heavy broadsword down in a brutal, two-handed cleave aimed directly at Xue Ming’s head.

One of the blood-iron chains whipped upward, intercepting the massive blade. The collision generated a shower of crimson sparks. Commander Vane’s eyes widened in shock; his sword, forged from high-tier mountain-iron, actually chipped against the hardened blood, the chain refusing to break or even bend under his immense physical strength.

“Your crude steel cannot sever the essence of my vitality, foreigner,” Xue Ming laughed, another chain whipping out to strike Commander Jin.

Commander Jin parried desperately with his golden halberd, executing the Golden Dragon Coiling Defense. The golden Qi wrapped around the shaft of his weapon, barely managing to deflect the serrated chain before it could wrap around his neck.

“Keep him contained!” Jin shouted, stepping back-to-back with Commander Vane. “Do not let the chains encircle you! They are incredibly corrosive!”

While the titans of the battlefield clashed in explosive, devastating exchanges of martial supremacy, Alaric stood perfectly still near the rear of the imperial formation, halfway down the stone stairwell.

He maintained his flawless illusion. To the casual observer, he was a terrified, fragile Level 43 Master Mage, clutching his wooden staff with white knuckles. He occasionally muttered a low incantation, casting a simple Terra-Shield to deflect a stray burst of demonic energy away from Ling Ying, who stood staunchly by his side, her emerald broadsword drawn to protect her beloved Master.

But internally, Alaric’s mind was an ocean of terrifying, absolute calm.

His ruby eyes, sharp and analytical, swept over the chaotic battlefield. He was not distracted by lust, nor was he commenting internally on the elegant, fierce movements of the Imperial Consorts fighting deeper in the cavern. His focus was entirely, aggressively locked onto the flow of the battle, the positioning of the arrays, and the fading spiritual signatures of the fallen.

‘The demonic vanguard is highly disciplined, but they are bleeding out rapidly,’ Alaric analyzed, watching Corbin systematically butcher his way through the right flank, his greatsword leaving a trail of bisected corpses. ‘Commander Jin and the foreigner are locked in a stalemate with Xue Ming. Cui Yulan is actively suppressing Gui Wuchang’s psychological attacks with pure elemental superiority. The line will break within minutes. But I am still blind to the true layout of the inner sanctum and the mechanics of the ancient seal.’

He needed raw, unfiltered intelligence.

Alaric’s gaze shifted to the ground near the base of the stairs. During Corbin’s initial, devastating sword strike, a high-ranking elder of the Blood Lotus Cult had been thrown backward, his lower half severed. The man was currently bleeding out on the obsidian floor, his life force rapidly fading. A few feet away, a heavily armored soldier from Earl Fenghai’s army lay gasping his last breaths, his chest crushed by a rogue blood-iron chain.

‘Perfect,’ Alaric thought.

He took a deliberate, stumbling step down the stairs, appearing as though he had tripped over the uneven stone, bringing himself within twenty feet of the dying men.

“Master, stay back!” Ling Ying warned, moving to interpose herself between him and the combat zone.

“I am fine, Ling Ying. Just catching my breath,” Alaric reassured her, gripping his staff tightly.

Under the guise of recovering his balance, Alaric stealthily shifted his grip on the wooden staff. He closed his eyes for a fraction of a second, tapping into the deepest, darkest reserves of his Archmage mana.

He could not use generic, recognizable magic in this world without drawing extreme suspicion. He had to adapt his vast arcane knowledge to the unique, esoteric flair of the Xianxia realm.

‘Phantasmal Soul-Siphoning Hex,’ Alaric chanted silently within his mind.

He didn’t unleash a flashy beam of light or a swirling vortex. Instead, two microscopic, entirely invisible tendrils of pure, highly condensed spiritual energy snaked out from the tip of his wooden staff. They slithered across the bloody floor, completely masked by the chaotic, overwhelming fluctuations of Battle Aura, lightning, and demonic Qi detonating across the cavern.

The invisible tendrils smoothly pierced the skulls of the dying cult elder and the Earl’s fallen soldier, plunging directly into their fading, fragile souls.

Alaric’s mind was instantly flooded with a chaotic, agonizing torrent of fragmented memories, foreign emotions, and dying terrors. The psychic backlash was severe, threatening to give him a localized migraine, but his Archmage intellect effortlessly compartmentalized and filtered the raw data, searching only for actionable intelligence.

He dove into the mind of the Blood Lotus elder first.

Images flashed rapidly. Dark rituals. Chanting. The layout of the Iron-Cloud Fortress.

Alaric pushed deeper, bypassing the useless zealotry. He found the memory of the inner sanctum. He saw a massive, hollowed-out geode glowing with putrid green light. He saw the colossal, skeletal corpse of the Abyssal Bone Demon Emperor.

But more importantly, Alaric saw the ancient seal.

‘The Seven-Star Heaven-Lock Array,’ Alaric read the knowledge directly from the elder’s fading comprehension. ‘A masterpiece of ancient sealing arts. It is anchored by seven elemental nodes, completely synchronized with the celestial alignment of the stars above the province. Any forceful, uncalculated breach of the bronze doors or the inner chamber walls will trigger a catastrophic spatial collapse, burying the Primordial Spirit under millions of tons of bedrock.’

Alaric’s eyes narrowed as he extracted the cult’s solution to the seal.

‘They are not breaking it with arrays,’ Alaric realized, disgust and dark amusement mingling in his thoughts. ‘They are using living conduits. Mortals possessing extreme Yin-Wood and Yang-Metal physiques. They are pumping their highly specific, polarized blood directly into the ancient locks to slowly corrode the divine seals without triggering the collapse. A crude, horrific, but undeniably effective bypass.’

He withdrew the tendril from the cultist’s dead mind, instantly shifting his entire focus to the fading soul of Earl Fenghai’s soldier.

He expected to find standard military orders, perhaps a map of the Iron-Blood Province’s supply lines, or basic combat formations.

What he found instead sent a profound, chilling shockwave through his absolute composure.

The soldier’s mind was not filled with loyalty to Earl Fenghai. It was entirely consumed by a deep-seated, paralyzing, existential terror of the man currently butchering the right flank: Corbin.

Alaric watched through the soldier’s memories. He saw Corbin standing alone in a dark tent, staring intently at empty air, his hands making swiping motions against an invisible surface. He saw Corbin muttering to himself about ‘Experience Points,’ ‘System Quests,’ and ‘Leveling Up.’

The soldier hadn’t understood the words, believing his commander to be touched by madness or possessed by a strange, invisible demon.

But Alaric understood them perfectly.

‘A God Tablet,’ Alaric analyzed, his internal monologue dropping to a whisper of profound gravity. ‘The man is a transmigrator. He possesses a System.’

Alaric delved frantically into the soldier’s deepest, most suppressed observations. He saw memories of Corbin casually displaying completely unrelated, impossibly versatile martial techniques—switching from heavy earth-cleaving strikes to pinpoint, blindingly fast assassination steps without any foundational transition. He saw Corbin casually producing high-tier healing pills from thin air without a spatial ring.

‘He isn’t relying on years of bitter cultivation or a single, dedicated legacy,’ Alaric realized, piecing the puzzle together with terrifying clarity. ‘He is a system-user operating on raw, accelerated brute force. His Tyrant Emperor Domain isn’t a manifestation of enlightenment; it’s a high-level system reward. He is a walking anomaly.’

Alaric extracted the final, most crucial piece of intelligence before the soldier’s soul completely dissipated into the ether. He saw a memory of Corbin brutally executing a loyalist to the old Earl, stating his grand ambition aloud in a moment of arrogant triumph.

“This province is just the stepping stone. The Celestial Dragon Empire is vast, teeming with resources and Grandmasters. Once my foundation is secure, the Emperor’s throne will be mine.”

Alaric severed the Phantasmal Soul-Siphoning Hex, snapping the invisible tendrils back into his staff. He stood up straight, taking a deep, steadying breath to clear the psychic residue from his mind.

He looked across the chaotic, blood-soaked cavern, his ruby eyes locking onto the broad, heavily armored back of Corbin. The warlord was currently decapitating a demonic elite, entirely unaware that his deepest, most heavily guarded secret had just been flawlessly extracted from the mind of a dying subordinate.

‘A fellow system-user. An ambitious, incredibly dangerous anomaly whose overarching mission is to conquer this very region and seize the imperial throne,’ Alaric thought, a cold, calculating, and deeply sinister smile slowly curving his lips. ‘He is a blunt instrument. Powerful, yes, but entirely reliant on the rigid mechanics of his interface. He scans for threats and levels, completely blind to the nuances of magic and manipulation.’

Alaric shifted his gaze toward the massive, sealed bronze doors at the far end of the cavern, behind which the Demon Emperor’s Primordial Spirit awaited its revival.

‘He is here to fulfill a quest,’ Alaric deduced, his grand design shifting and adapting instantly to the new variables. ‘His system likely demands the destruction of the Demon Emperor to advance his rank or something related to it. He views Cui Yulan, Commander Jin, and the Imperial Consorts merely as convenient allies or eventual obstacles to his conquest.’

Alaric gripped his wooden staff, settling comfortably back into his role as the weak, observant healer.

‘Let him fight the demons. Let him break the seals with his brute force and exhaust his system’s reserves against the Demonic Emperor…That will make things more convinient for me.’ Alaric decided, his mind already weaving a web of absolute, inescapable treachery.
