Chapter 943 - 783: Kicking the Camp (Part 2)
Chen Ji hummed a response: "Let’s go."
Jin Zhu suddenly raised his hand: "Wait a moment."
Chen Ji turned to look at him: "What is it?"
Jin Zhu hesitated: "I don’t know if the Anti-Japanese Army has armor like leather armor, cloth armor would also do, just rushing out like this might be a bit inappropriate..."
Yuan Xing sneered: "Why do you have so many issues? Just follow foster father and charge!"
...
...
On the river, the five-masted treasure ship gently rocked, with over a dozen sturdy young men standing on the deck, long knives at their waists, and hand crossbows hanging behind them.
A tall figure stood at the bow, holding a long brass tube, looking towards Jingjiang County town.
The Store Manager of the Wang Family, one of the Eight Great Merchants, stood behind this person, flattering with a smile: "Mr. Hu, this device is called a thousand-mile mirror, brought from overseas by the Franks; it allows you to see for a thousand miles, with remarkable clarity."
Hu Junye held the thousand-mile mirror and silently observed, he saw Chen Ji wearing a mask standing on the Jingjiang city wall talking with others, but couldn’t make out any faces. He also saw from a distance how scattered and disheveled the Anti-Japanese Army on the city wall appeared to be.
He turned the mirror in another direction, glanced at the Wokou camp, and then put down the mirror, disdainfully saying: "They say it sees a thousand miles, that’s an exaggeration, and ’remarkable clarity’ is even more of an overstatement."
The Wang Family Store Manager awkwardly laughed: "The Franks say they have something even better."
Hu Junye chuckled coldly and walked back to the stern tower: "Have the Wang Family purchase fifty... no, buy all the thousand-mile mirrors from the Franks and send them to the Ministry of War."
The Wang Family Store Manager maintained his smile: "No problem."
He brought a Taishi Chair from the stern tower for Hu Junye, wiping it with his sleeve: "Mr. Hu, please have a seat."
Hu Junye sat down; the Taishi Chair seemed a bit narrow. He gazed towards the Wokou camp: "The Wang Family indeed works efficiently, summoning the Wokou so quickly."
The Wang Family Store Manager responded with a smile: "Mr. Hu, that is incorrect. Our Wang Family would never dare to collude with the Wokou, that’s a crime punishable by death. These Wokou came on their own seeking revenge; no one can control them."
Hu Junye sneered: "This ship’s crew are all death soldiers of my Hu Family. No need to be so secretive when speaking. It’s not easy to leave my Hu Family’s ship now. Let me ask you, why have the Wokou not succeeded in their long siege?"
The Wang Family Store Manager glanced at the lonely Jingjiang City, hesitating slightly: "I don’t understand military affairs; maybe they’re testing the waters since they’re new here."
Today, Hu Junye did not wear his red official robe but instead donned lightweight leather armor, looking less like a civil servant and more like a military general: "The Wokou’s forces are several times that of Jingjiang County’s Anti-Japanese Army; if they haven’t succeeded after so long, they must be holding back."
The Wang Family Store Manager hurriedly added: "Mr. Hu, please be patient; the Matsubara Clan has gathered forces from the Three Islands here. Capturing a small town like Jingjiang County should be no problem; let’s wait a bit longer."
Hu Junye, seated on the Taishi Chair, picked up the thousand-mile mirror again. But at this moment, he saw five people leap down from the Jingjiang city wall and rush towards the Wokou camp. Among them was a fat man wearing Do-maru Armor, seemingly seized from the Wokou by the Anti-Japanese Army earlier.
This stout man had a robust build, making the Do-maru Armor bulge like the scales of an overweight carp.
The Wang Family Store Manager paused, stunned by this scene: "What... what are they doing?"
Hu Junye held the thousand-mile mirror, his gaze constantly following the five figures. These five moved so quickly, covering eighty paces in just five breaths.
In the next moment, they crashed into the Wokou camp, creating chaos.
The Wang Family Store Manager was astonished: "Assaulting the camp? Just a few people to attack a camp?"
He fetched another thousand-mile mirror from the stern tower, looking towards the Wokou camp.
As the five charged towards the Central Army Camp, hundreds of Wokou poured out from dozens of tents, having been lying in ambush, waiting for Chen Ji to return.
Seeing hundreds of Wokou surround the five, it was as if an army of ants enveloped their prey, leaving no gaps.
The Wang Family Store Manager puzzled: "These people are too bold, attacking a camp of thousands with just five men, do they think the Wokou are made of paper?"
Hu Junye held the thousand-mile mirror, calmly saying: "It’s not about the numbers, but the quality of the troops. Just watch."
The Wang Family Store Manager quietly observed through the thousand-mile mirror, noting the growing crowd in the Wokou camp, seemingly aiming to swallow the five whole: "They shouldn’t be able to get out."
But just as he spoke, a Wokou was suddenly thrown into the air and heavily fell back. Then one after another, Wokou seemed to be hammered skyward, crashing down and causing chaos.
The tightly packed "ant swarm" began to loosen, the circular encirclement turning elliptical, as if it was being forcibly widened from within.
In the next moment, the eastern encirclement suddenly collapsed, with some Wokou flying out like cannonballs, rolling endlessly upon hitting the ground.
The hundreds of Wokou surrounding them had an opening forcibly smashed through, and the five broke out, exiting one after the other.
Two masked officials led the charge, one of them wielding movements strong and unrestrained, showing no intention of holding back; every kick sent Wokou sprawling. He was the fiercest, and the Wokou’s encirclement seemed to be made of paper before him, easily kicked through.
The other wore a bamboo hat and a straw coat, wielding a Wild Great Sword that warded off any arrows, none of which could come close.
In the team, two more officials guarded the flanks, with the fat man in Do-maru Armor wielding two seized Wild Great Swords, brandishing them vigorously. The other was slightly less skilled but, being in the Seeking Dao Realm, was formidable nonetheless.
At the rear was a handsome, young man who defended against the Wokou while retreating, his mere presence daunting to the Wokou.
Together, these five seemed to move through the Wokou camp unchallenged.
The Wang Family Store Manager hesitated: "All five are Seeking Dao Realm officials? How fierce are they?"
Hu Junye sneered: "It’s because the Wokou are inept. If the nearly thousand were heavy armored infantry, crossbowmen, or sharpshooters from the Imperial Three Camps, even a Great Grandmaster would have trouble leaving them behind."
This concentration of hundreds of Wokou was a trap set for two Seeking Dao Realm individuals; adding one more wouldn’t matter. But the Wokou never expected that the raiders this time would be five Seeking Dao Realm officials.
Seeing the five about to break through the Wokou camp, the Wang Family Store Manager muttered: "How can a small town like Jingjiang County have five Seeking Dao Realm officials? Mr. Hu, across the entire Ning Dynasty, only your Hu Family and the Eunuch Party have such resources. How does the Zhang Family have such depth?"
Hu Junye put down the thousand-mile mirror, slowly speaking: "The answer lies within the question; it’s the Twelve Signs who have come. The one at the rear is the Heavenly Horse from the Top Three."
The Wang Family Store Manager’s expression turned sharp, setting down the thousand-mile mirror with a focused gaze: "The Eunuch Party?"
Hu Junye glanced at him: "What is there to fear? Jiangnan is not a place where the Eunuch Party can run rampant."
The Wang Family Store Manager, his mind easing, picked up the thousand-mile mirror again to look over the shoals.
At this moment, the five raiding Seeking Dao Realm officials had broken through the encirclement, cutting eastward towards the edge of the camp, now only three hundred paces from the five-masted treasure ship.
When everyone thought they would retreat back to Jingjiang County, the five suddenly altered their formation, with the Heavenly Horse leading them back into the Wokou camp.
The Heavenly Horse no longer concealed the official gateway, manifesting a brilliant longbow, shooting Meteor Arrows like thunderbolts at the Wokou, each arrow piercing through several men.
The five once again charged back into the Wokou camp!
The Wang Family Store Manager was stunned: "What are they doing, aren’t they afraid of exhaustion?"
Hu Junye leaned back on the Taishi Chair, his expression serious: "They’re searching for the Japanese Chief. These five suddenly realized breaking through the Wokou camp was easier than expected, so they intend to achieve it all in one stroke, to behead the leader."
