GREED: ALL FOR WHAT?

Chapter 2562: Shaky Confidence.

Chapter 2562: Shaky Confidence.

The god of illusion laughed to the world to show his confidence and tell them that it was very easy for him to defeat the god of telepathy. But deep down within him, he was astonished and was feeling slightly afraid.

He was afraid because the god of telepathy was too strong for a god who didn’t have a church to strengthen them.

He is strong because he has six extra artificial souls. But the god of telepathy doesn’t have artificial souls, yet, the god of telepathy can pressure him to the point that he has to reveal his ultimate move.

He didn’t expect that it would have taken him 51,200 units of divine energy to erase that virtual body, even though it had been weakened. He had expected to use far less energy. After all, he was fighting on his home turf with all the advantages.

The fact that he had to spend that much divine energy reinforced his belief that the god of telepathy isn’t a new god. He is now sure that the god of telepathy has become a god for a long time and has had time to raise his power to the limit.

The power that the god of telepathy has displayed also made him determine that the god of telepathy must have at least ten souls. This made him jealous, but his jealousy quickly gave way to fear because of the fact that he had not seen a trace of the true body of the god of telepathy all along.

What he has been fighting against all along has been virtual copies. So all of his victories have no lasting impact. The only permanent advantage he has gained in this fight against the god of telepathy is the reinforcement of the power of storytelling through his swift victory.

But he didn’t let this affect his confidence. He displayed his confidence to the world with a laugh while he said to himself, “Things are still going well. I am still winning.”

And this was true. The tide of battle has swung in his favor. Without a virtual body to lead the virtual copies of the mind of the god of telepathy into battle, the virtual copies shouldn’t be able to see the minds of his believers and his painted creatures anymore.

So the virtual copies are at a disadvantage now and will be destroyed very quickly. The only way to stop the disastrous defeat is for the god of telepathy to step in again. It is either that or the god of telepathy accepts defeat.

He dearly hoped that the god of telepathy would accept defeat because this would reinforce the power of the Storytelling divine ability and would also prevent the gods watching from learning more about their abilities.

That last reason is the most important one. He can give up reinforcing the power of the Storytelling divine ability if it will make the god of telepathy back off.

This is because if they keep fighting in the open like this, not only would other gods learn their capabilities, but some gods might be tempted to take advantage of the situation to attack the two of them after they’ve sufficiently weakened each other.

He thought to himself in anger, “I doubt he will be cautious like me. After all, his true body is in the Mindscape. He can remain hidden while I will be at risk here in the physical dimension.”

If he had a way to attack the god of telepathy in the Mindscape, he would use it immediately. Unfortunately for him, the Mirror of the World can’t see the Mindscape, so he has no jurisdiction in that aspect of reality.

He would have loved to be able to paint a god of illusion that he could send into the Mindscape to fight for him, away from the prying eyes of all the gods watching. But he can only create physical objects, and he can’t bestow divine abilities on the objects that he creates.

As the god of illusion, he only has jurisdiction over the physical world, while the god of telepathy has jurisdiction over the Mindscape, and the god of dreams has jurisdiction over the dream realm.

This put him at a disadvantage in this fight because the god of telepathy can remain hidden while he is at risk. So he was sure that the god of telepathy would continue to press the attack.

As it turned out, he was both right and wrong about this. He was right that the god of telepathy wouldn’t give up and accept defeat. But he was wrong about what the god of telepathy would do next.

He was expecting another virtual body to descend and lead the virtual copies into battle. But as he waited, no virtual body descended. Meanwhile, the virtual copies were not at a disadvantage in the fight.

Apparently, at some point, the virtual copies had become capable of seeing past his illusion and seeing the minds of his believers again. The virtual copied could also see his invisible puppet beings, even though they should be too weak to do so.

This turn of events took him off guard because, by common sense, only a god should be able to break his illusion, not the fragments of the mind of a god.

But as things have turned out, the tides of battle will turn against him because this means that the god of telepathy won’t need to spend energy to create a virtual body in order to get rid of his believers. This also puts the energy he had invested in creating the god of strength at the possibility of being a waste.

As he was agonizing over this possibility, a virtual body of the god of telepathy appeared before him again and began to attack him. The virtual body used the same moves to attack him. It utilized the Mind Armament, Mind Howl, Mind Plague, and Mind Domination divine abilities against him. There didn’t seem to be anything different about this attack.
