Chapter 2359: Something Off.
The legendary noble quickly explained before Sir Kris could reject the request, “This barrier is consuming a lot of energy with the state you’ve put it in. At least remove it from its full state so that the energy spring won’t be harmed.”
Then he sighed and said, “Don’t do it for me. Do it for your family and do it for your city.”
What he said made Sir Kris conflicted. It showed on Sir Kris’s face. He was struggling to decide what to do.
The legendary noble saw this and decided to strike while the iron was hot. He said with a calm voice that didn’t show any of his expectation and desperation, “You aim to solve some of the problems of the city right? I don’t think it will be helpful to the city if you add more to its problems.”
Sir Kris struggled more and more. He appeared to be unable to decide between continuing his crusade or opting to ease the strain on the energy spring.
Meanwhile, the legendary noble watched on with anticipation. He thought to himself with a sneer, “Just give me one tiny opening and I’ll flatten you to pieces.”
All he needs to make a move is for the barrier to fall back to its standby mode. If it falls back to its standby, it won’t be able to completely block the influence of his domain and other divine abilities.
In the stand by mode, which is the state that the barrier usually stays all the time, the barrier can only block physical force, not spiritual force.
So if Sir Kris slips and reverts the barrier from its energy intensive complete mode to its energy conservative standby mode, he will be able to use his domain to kill everyone within the barrier immediately.
But Sir Kris, who had seem conflicted, still refused to let down his guard.
He asked uncertainly, “But if I remove the shield, you won’t want to listen to my problems, and you won’t take me seriously anymore. Only when the shield is up will there be urgency and only with urgency will you have to listen to me.”
The legendary noble sighed and said, “Fine. State all of your problems. Just be quick about it.”
He decided to continue listening to what Sir Kris had to say. Not that he had much choice in the matter.
His only hope to solve this problem quickly and efficiently is to deescalate the matter by convincing the perpetrator to give up. He was right about this, but he was wrong about who the perpetrator was.
He couldn’t see Legion because Legion had sunk into the energy spring. All he saw were four people standing around the energy spring and setting up some things.
He didn’t know that Legion was in the energy spring absorbing it, and the things being set up were another set of barriers and a gateway to escape.
So by his estimate, this whole thing was a temper tantrum. He thought that it wasn’t much for him to spend an hour trying to convince Sir Kris to stop messing around.
It wasn’t until he noticed the water in the energy spring had fallen below half of its capacity that he sensed that something was wrong.
The water in the energy spring shouldn’t be reducing since no one was harvesting it and no one was attacking the barrier. The only reason the water in the energy spring will be reducing is if someone is stealing it with a secret method.
The legendary noble roared in anger at Sir Kris, “What’s going on with the energy spring?”
Sir Kris asked innocently, “What do you mean?”
The legend had had enough of his nonsense. He said, “I order you to open this barrier now, or I will have your wife and children killed.”
He had already ordered people to apprehend Sir Kris’s family earlier. He hadn’t wanted to use them to compel Sir Kris before because he didn’t want Sir Kris to lose his mind completely.
But his caution hadn’t paid off, and he had become desperate. So he ordered for Sir Kris’s family to be brought forward now.
Sir Kris’s face darkened when he saw his wife and kids brought forward with a blade to their necks.
He gritted his teeth and said, “You have gone too far, ancestor.”
The legendary noble couldn’t contain his anger anymore. He roared as he said, “You are the one that has gone too far. Don’t you know that you are destroying our city? Snap out of it and open this barrier now.”
Sir Kris appeared to have become angry too. Like a rebellious child, he asked, “And what if I don’t open the barrier and you kill them? What next? Will you kill everyone related to the Edwin family, including my brothers and sisters, and uncles and aunties, and my nieces and my nephews?”
“What about my grandparents? And my grand uncles? And my grand aunties?”
He began listing everyone related to him one by one. It was a long list, but he appeared in no rush to list them.
He was willing to list them and their names one by one, but the legendary noble had had enough.
The noble shouted at him, “Enough of this. Will you open the barrier now and live, or refuse to open the barrier and die with you and your family?”
Sir Kris refused to answer the question. Instead, he went on another rant: “This is another one of the problems I have with Reinfield. You know what, make it two problems.”
“You think because you’re strong you can have your way with everyone, including your descendants. You treat us like grass. What’s more, I can’t complain to you about it, or you will threaten to kill me.”
“This situation is a perfect example of how bad everything has gotten. Here I am, a model citizen of this city, trying to have an honest conversation with you in which I hope to lay out the problems of the city to you. But you don’t want to listen.”
