GREED: ALL FOR WHAT?

Chapter 2332: Defense Preparation.

Chapter 2332: Defense Preparation.

Legion is sure that just their ten slaves will be enough to do the job of defending their territory for them. And they believe that it would be easy for their slaves to do too.

But they don’t want people to know that the leaders of the Golden Hammer gang have been replaced, and they don’t want people to learn that the leaders of the Golden Hammer gang have increased in number again.

They don’t want to reveal anything about their slaves that isn’t already known, which is why they only plan to use the three original slaves from the Hammer series that everyone knows about to defend their territory.

Of the original nine slaves that they had, only Golden Hammer, the Walker, the Thief, and the Fate Weaver are still alive. The Fate Weaver’s existence is kept hidden, so only Golden Hammer, the Walker, and the Thief will be made to defend their territory in public.

These three now have the pathways of Giant and Guardian, Walker and Traveler, and finally Thief and Rule Breaker. They are all at rank 5 too, so their individual power has more than doubled.

Unfortunately, three rank 5 beings won’t be enough to defend seven districts. The three of them will require the help of many other people and defensive structures in order to successfully defend their territory.

The Golden Hammer gang doesn’t need to build walls because walls are already in place at the perimeter of the outer part of the city. All they need is to repair the walls and mount defensive equipment on them.

They can mount defensive equipment easily, so they are not lacking in that aspect. They can even go so far as to increase the number of epic defenders by one to four by letting the Death Walker and Assassin, also known as slave number 8, appear publicly, but they can’t increase the number of available normal godclads.

They don’t want to let slave number 8 appear publicly, but she has a public identity and is known as Black Axe’s sister, so they can use her identity to lure their enemies who think that she is a spy.

But no matter what they feel about letting her appear, there is nothing they can do about their lack of ordinary members of their gang. In fact, rank 3 godclads are too lacking in their gabg because of all the experimentation they did with them, and there is no way to recruit more in the short term.

The only way to increase their available manpower was to borrow from the Light Temple gang. This was why the truce was so important.

Now that the truce has been made, they now have rightful authority to use the members of the Light Temple gang to defend their territory. The Light Temple gang only defends one district and has a lot of members, whom they hired recently to fight off the Golden Hammer gang, so they have a lot of manpower to spare.

With this done, what they needed to do next was to build defensive structures. These defensive structures included walls, ballistae and guns of various kinds, defensive arrays, and offensive arrays.

Walls can be built by anyone. The ballistae, mortars, and cannons that will be mounted on those walls are to be built by machinists. The arrays, on the other hand, are built by mages.

The last two groups have become very expensive recently because of the war. Machinists and mages have become too busy producing their guns and arrays for sale for the war. This has made it very difficult for many people to acquire them now that a beast tide was incoming.

Many people were hoping to use the scarcity of guns and arrays against the Golden Hammer in order to make them fail. They bought everything available and even paid machinists and mages not to sell to the Golden Hammer gang.

Unfortunately, their scheme and effort would go to waste because Legion had a slave that was a machinist and a mage, whom they called slave number 7. So Legion didn’t lack defensive structures.

Thanks to the extra manpower that they gained, they were able to prepare for the attack before it happened. They filled the top of the 50-meter wall with guns and ballistae and had a lot of people manning them.

The Golden Hammer gang and their neighbors were scrambling to prepare for the attack, while gangs like the Black and White gang, which were on the other side of the city far away from the forest, were relaxed and complacent.

For the people living near the territory of the Black and White gang, it seemed as if they were not in a period of high alert and were not preparing for an attack. Only those close to the front line felt the tension and anxiety.

As the beasts in the forest continued to congregate, this tension and anxiety continued to increase. Then it burst into a flurry of action and movement when the alarm siren rang.

The alarm siren was in the inner city. But when it rang, the sound it made was heard clearly in every corner of the outer city.

The alarm was to indicate an imminent attack. The number of rings that the siren made also indicated the severity of the attack.

In the case of this beast tide, the alarm siren rang seven times. This signified that the power of the attacking force ranged from 0 to 6, with 0 being the power of mortals.

So the beast tide consisted of normal beasts comparable to mortal humans and extraordinary beasts as powerful as rank 6 godclads. What the siren didn’t indicate was that there were four rank 6 beasts leading the attack.

This lack of information wasn’t much of a problem though. Anyone who stood on top of the walls and gazed at the approaching tide of beasts would be able to spot the rank 6 beasts since they were so large.
