Chapter 2245 - 2245: Unseen Terror.
Jack took the black leather pouch and put it into his robes. He had a smile of happiness on his face has he did so.
Then he bowed respectfully to Sir Kriss and said, “I am glad that I was of help to you. Please tell me when next there is something I can help you with.”
Sir Kriss still didn’t look up. He said, “There will be soon.”
This statement made Jack’s face turn pale.
He knew what Sir Kriss was talking about, and he didn’t like it. But he didn’t dare complain.
Sir Kriss urged him, “If there is nothing else, let’s get on with it.”
Jack hesitated for a while. Then he asked, “Could you please help me plead with Lady Circe? I have done everything she asked me to do. I told them again and again to open their minds for the investigation, but they refused. They also refused to leave their base for an investigation. I have done everything that I can do.”
Sir Kriss shook his head and said, “I can’t do that. I have my reasons. Besides, you’ve been paid amply for your services. I hope you will continue to do good work.”
Jack could only bow and say, “I promise to do my best.”
Sir Kriss said, “You may leave.”
Jack bowed one last time before leaving the private room. As soon as he opened the door, he found two men waiting for him.
He sighed in defeat as the two men led him to another room. He didn’t dare resist because the other party was stronger than him and because he had been paid for his work.
The two men led him to another private room. There was also another person already waiting in this private room.
The person waiting was a lady. She was sitting quietly with her eyes closed. There was also a crystal crown on the table in front of her.
The sight of the crown made Jack’s already frightened face become paler. The crown was the source of his fears, so the sight of it made him recollect some painful memories.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t leave. He had to stay, and he had to sit in the seat directly opposite the lady.
When he sat down, the lady didn’t say anything to him. She just picked up the crown on the table and placed it on her head.
She didn’t open her eyes, but it didn’t appear that she needed her eyes to see. Her movements were smooth and almost ritualistic.
After the crown settled on her head, it glowed a white color for a while. Then the crown dimmed and became transparent.
Eventually, the crown became so transparent that it became invisible. At least Jack couldn’t see the crown anymore. But this didn’t alleviate his fears. It instead intensified it.
Jack’s eyes widened in fear. It was as if he had seen a ghost. But when the crown began affecting him, he calmed down and his face became stoic.
A few seconds later, he became dazed. His eyes became unfocused, and he just sat down with his mouth wide open and his eyes was looking at something far into the distance.
This state continued for a while as if nothing was happening. Both the lady and Jack were still and unresponsive. But then Jack began to sweat.
Jack’s body temperature increased so much that he began to sweat. His problem became compounded when he began to spasm all over. He began to sweat more and more.
Something was clearly causing him stress. But whatever it was, it couldn’t be seen on the surface. The only thing that could be seen in the quiet room was Jack’s violent reaction.
The sweating became so bad that Jack’s clothes became soaked. The spasming also got so bad that he couldn’t maintain an upright position. He fell forward into the table, and his face struck the table.
The collision between his face and the table was impactful and big, but Jack didn’t seem to have felt it. He still had the dazed look in his eyes as his face lay there on the table.
Eventually, whatever was going on finished. Jack’s eyes became focused, and he seemed to have woken up from his fugue state.
The first thing he did was to groan in pain. Then he touched his face and exclaimed. “Aww. It hurts. What happened?”
The lady didn’t answer him. No one did.
Jack looked around in fear and confusion. He didn’t know where he was or what he was doing here. He didn’t even know how he got here.
All he remembered was that he left the Golden Hammer gang and should be going home.
But he is clearly not at home. He is in a small, dark room sitting opposite a lady while being flanked by two men.
Aside from what he could see, there were also some inexplicable things that he was feeling. The most pertinent feeling is the pain on his cheek.
His cheek feels sore as if someone had slapped him. Then there is the pain in his head.
His head is pounding with a terrible headache. Each pounding is so bad that he has to wince.
What’s worse is that the headache only got worse. Soon he had to hold his head in pain and cry out in pain.
This state lasted for a few seconds. After it was over, Jack finally stopped crying.
He wiped the tears from his face and asked again, “What is going on?”
The only reason he hasn’t freaked out and made a scene was because he recognized the two men. He also seems to recognize the lady, but he can’t quite remember where he knows her.
After seeing that he had calmed down, two men took him out of the room and explained what just happened to him. They only gave him a summary explanation of what had happened.
They told him that he had come to meet someone for a secret matter and had been paid for it. They also told him that they would contact him in the future if they need his services again.
