Chapter 482: The Day She Took Her Revenge
The Day She Took Her Revenge
A cold arc of sword light flashed across the battlefield.
Vita Zain’s body was thrown backward.
He never even had the chance to fight back.
His body crashed heavily into the ground several meters away. Dust exploded beneath him and hung in the air for a moment.
His eyes were still wide.
Disbelief filled them.
It was as if his mind had simply refused to understand what had happened.
One strike.
That was all it had taken.
Selena had killed him with a single strike.
She slowly lowered her sword.
For a few seconds, she didn’t move.
She just stood there.
The battlefield continued raging around her.
The wounded cried out.
Weapons clashed.
Spiritual Essence roared through the air.
Yet somehow, all of it felt distant.
Muted.
As though Selena were standing in the middle of a storm while trapped inside a world of silence.
Then she raised her eyes.
Her gaze moved toward the remaining students of Sky Breaker Academy.
Something inside her finally broke.
The hatred she had carried for years came rushing out.
She no longer had the strength—or the desire—to bury it.
Her fingers tightened around the sword hilt.
Her knuckles turned pale.
Then the memories came.
Her family.
Her home.
The day everything had been destroyed.
She remembered the screams.
She remembered the blood.
She remembered standing there, unable to do anything.
She had been too weak.
Far too weak.
She couldn’t protect the people she loved.
She couldn’t stop what was happening.
All she could do was watch.
And endure.
For years, Selena had carried that helplessness inside her.
She had swallowed her hatred.
She had locked those memories away.
Whenever the pain became too much, she forced herself to keep moving.
She told herself that one day things would change.
One day, she would become strong.
One day, she would no longer be helpless.
Today was that day.
Her sword moved again.
Another figure fell.
Selena didn’t even stop.
Another enemy rushed toward her.
She stepped aside.
The sword in her hand flashed.
Another body collapsed.
She advanced deeper into the battlefield.
Her footsteps were steady.
Her breathing remained controlled.
Her expression was cold.
There was no madness in her eyes.
She wasn’t swinging her sword blindly.
She wasn’t consumed by some mindless bloodlust.
Every strike was deliberate.
Every movement had a purpose.
She knew exactly what she was doing.
And for the first time in years, she didn’t hesitate.
There was only determination.
With every enemy she defeated, something inside her seemed to loosen.
It was almost as though invisible chains were breaking one by one.
She had carried that pain for too long.
Years.
Perhaps even longer than she wanted to admit.
But now, she was finally allowing herself to release it.
Not because the past had suddenly disappeared.
It hadn’t.
Those memories would probably remain with her for the rest of her life.
The people she had lost would never return.
The scars left behind by that day would never completely vanish.
But Selena was no longer willing to remain trapped inside them.
She wasn’t that helpless girl anymore.
She had survived.
She had grown stronger.
And now she could finally face the people who had once made her feel powerless.
A short distance away, Rias watched Selena disappear deeper into the battlefield.
Her expression slowly changed.
The excitement she had felt earlier was gone.
Concern replaced it.
Rias understood.
She knew what Selena had been waiting for all these years.
She knew how much this moment meant to her.
But revenge was dangerous.
It could give someone the strength to stand again.
It could give them something to hold on to when everything else had been taken away.
But revenge could also consume them.
It could become the only thing left inside their heart.
Rias hesitated.
Her eyes remained fixed on Selena for another moment.
Then she turned toward Leon.
Her hand slowly reached out.
Her fingers caught the edge of his midnight-black robe.
Thin amethyst embroidery shimmered across the dark fabric beneath the sunlight.
Rias gave it a small tug.
Leon lowered his eyes.
He looked at her.
Rias raised her face toward him.
Her large red eyes were filled with worry.
For a moment, she didn’t say anything.
Then, quietly, she spoke.
"Teacher... will Fellow Sister’s killing affect her cultivation psychologically in the future?"
Leon didn’t answer immediately.
His gaze moved back toward Selena.
His long black hair swayed gently in the wind.
His purple eyes remained calm.
There was no anger in them.
No concern either.
At least, not the kind Rias had expected.
He didn’t move to stop Selena.
There was no reason to.
After everything she had suffered, perhaps this was something she needed to do herself.
"It’s fine," Leon said calmly.
"Let her go."
Rias looked at him.
Leon continued watching Selena.
"Perhaps only by killing to her heart’s content can she finally untangle the knot in her heart."
His voice remained quiet.
But there was a weight behind those words.
"If she doesn’t take revenge for the destruction of her family, that hatred will remain buried inside her."
He paused.
His eyes narrowed slightly.
"It could become a knot in her heart that may never disappear."
Rias fell silent.
She turned her gaze back toward Selena.
The sight of her standing alone in the middle of the battlefield made something tighten inside Rias’s chest.
She couldn’t explain why.
Maybe it was because she understood what Leon meant.
Maybe it was because some wounds were simply too deep to heal by pretending they didn’t exist.
Not every painful memory disappeared because someone told you to forget it.
Sometimes, waiting wasn’t enough.
Sometimes, forgiveness wasn’t enough.
And sometimes, a person had to face the thing that had haunted them for years.
They had to walk straight toward it.
They had to confront it with their own hands.
Only then could they finally turn around and leave it behind.
Rias lowered her eyes.
