God's Imitator

Chapter 662: The Red Line in Insurance

Lu Xinyi looked at him, "Not bad. A bit of growth.

"But not much.

"Don't forget, he's a lawyer. In this game, he has plenty of options. Watch patiently.

"And if things do go wrong, that would actually be a good thing.

"One immunity voucher is all it takes to recruit him over. That's about as good a trade as it gets."

Cheng Wen blinked, then straightened up, "Oh, right, there's the immunity voucher."

Under the game's rules, even if an Actor failed in this game, they would only receive an instant-death penalty, which meant an immunity voucher could save them.

Cheng Wen didn't know whether Community 2 had an immunity voucher, but Community 3 did.

If he could recruit Lin Sizhi into Community 3 first, an immunity voucher could be used to save him immediately.

With that thought, Cheng Wen felt considerably less anxious and settled back in to watch carefully.

Community 2's audience section.

Huang Shengjie suddenly felt something was off, "Hey, Qin Cheng. I feel like Bai Zhilan is gradually shifting more and more toward Tang Qing's side.

"At the very start of the game, she seemed to be pushing back against him a little."

Qin Cheng nodded, "Your instinct is right.

"The reason Bai Zhilan took the 'moderator' role was both to leave herself room to pick a side, and to be in the best position to tilt the scales once she did.

"She's confirmed that Tang Qing holds a clear advantage, so she's beginning to lend him measured support.

"Of course, her alignment isn't as firm as Chen Yumei's. If things change later, she may continue to perform the appearance of swaying in a 'neutral' position."

Bai Zhilan looked around, "Does anyone see any other significant issues with this theory?

"If not, let's call a Recess and see if there are any further pieces of evidence or clues."

Lin Sizhi rose from his seat, "There are certainly further issues.

"In fact, the insurance industry operates according to strict risk control limits. These limits are not explicitly written into the Insurance Act, but they exist in reality within insurance companies and among regulatory bodies.

"In simple terms, this is an unwritten industry rule: accident insurance coverage typically amounts to roughly ten to twenty times the insured person's annual income, and for life insurance, roughly five to ten times.

"Consider this: if the wife was an ordinary salaried worker, and the husband attempted to purchase insurance worth tens of millions on her life, would the insurance company agree?

"Of course not. Insurance companies are not that naive.

"In fact, even if the wife were a white-collar professional earning over 10,000 a month, the maximum coverage she could realistically obtain would be in the range of two million, and even that might be a generous estimate.

"Attempting to purchase policies across multiple companies would not help either. As I noted earlier, insurance companies share data internally.

"The moment coverage exceeds a reasonable threshold, the company will take notice, and the contract would simply not be issued."

Lin Sizhi paused briefly and continued, "Based on the scale of these policies, the husband was able to successfully purchase close to ten million in coverage for the wife. From the insurance company's perspective, the wife would need to meet at least one of the following conditions for the application to pass review.

"An annual income at the five hundred thousand to one million level or above.

"Assets of at least ten million registered in her name, such as property deeds, equity certificates, or large-denomination fixed deposits submitted to the insurance company.

"Or a personal profile matching that of a business leader, executive of a listed company, or high-net-worth professional.

"Unfortunately, I have not seen any evidence so far that demonstrates the wife possessed any of these qualifications.

"Quite the opposite: based on everything presented about the wife so far, her profile is far removed from that of a 'high-net-worth individual.'

"Whether she earned over a million a year as an executive or was a wealthy second-generation heir, in either case she would be unlikely to be so careless in choosing a partner for marriage without conducting any background check whatsoever.

"In fact, given the apparent difference in social standing between the two, it is hard to imagine how they would ever have crossed paths at all, let alone have fallen in love and married.

"So I believe the 'murder for insurance' theory still carries unresolved issues, and a hasty conclusion at this stage would be premature."

Bai Zhilan was quiet for a moment, then gave a nod, "Yes, the information Lawyer Lin has raised here is genuinely significant.

"I would like to ask the esteemed members of the jury to verify whether the 'Lawyer's testimony regarding the insurance industry' is accurate."

[Jury Representative Bai Zhilan has proposed verification of the authenticity of the 'Lawyer's Testimony on Insurance Industry Practices.']

[If 10 jury members agree to the verification, each will be charged 500 minutes of visa time, and a confirmed result will be provided.]

Cheng Wen pressed 'Verify' immediately.

Players choosing to verify reached ten almost instantly.

[The 'Lawyer's Testimony on Insurance Industry Practices' contains no false information.]

[Insurance companies maintain rigorous internal financial underwriting rules. Only individuals of genuinely substantial wealth qualify legally for coverage of ten million or more.]

Bai Zhilan was quiet for a moment, then turned to Lin Sizhi, "Very well. Lawyer Lin, do you have any other Possibility Analyses to offer?"

Lin Sizhi shook his head, "Not at this time."

Bai Zhilan looked around, "In that case, we currently have two Possibility Analyses on the table: 'Mutual Suicide' and 'Murder for Insurance.' Please cast your votes, esteemed members of the jury."

The vote was completed quickly.

[Truth Vote] [Do you believe the 'Possibility Analysis - Mutual Suicide' proposed by 'Lawyer' Lin Sizhi represents the truth of this case?]

[Yes: 27 votes] [No: 73 votes] [The 'Possibility Analysis - Mutual Suicide' is not recognised as the Case Truth.]

[Truth Vote] [Do you believe the 'Possibility Analysis - Murder of Wife for Insurance' proposed by 'Detective' Tang Qing represents the truth of this case?]

[Yes: 48 votes] [No: 52 votes] [The 'Possibility Analysis - Murder of Wife for Insurance' is not recognised as the Case Truth.]

[A Recess will now begin. The trial will resume in 10 minutes.]

Huang Shengjie let out a long breath of relief, "Thank goodness. Lawyer Lin really is a professional. I was starting to think Tang Qing's theory might pass this round.

"But even so, Lawyer Lin is only playing passive defence, buying time, isn't he?

"He can't go to the Evidence Room to find anything useful. His dossier is almost certainly mostly blank. He's completely on the back foot.

"This can't go on indefinitely. What if Tang Qing and Wang Yongxin produce more evidence?

"Qin Cheng, what do you think? What's the truth of this case?"

Qin Cheng's expression was also somewhat grave, "Hard to say definitively, but the possibility of 'murder for insurance' is growing stronger.

"Because a substantial amount of evidence is pointing in that direction.

"No matter how unlikely the chain of reasoning might seem, if the evidence consistently points to a single possibility, that is the truth.

"Lawyer Lin has raised powerful challenges, but looking at the vote, the number supporting 'murder for insurance' is still slowly climbing, and the number supporting 'mutual suicide' is falling.

"We'll obviously vote for Lawyer Lin without hesitation. But there's a limit to how far that goes.

"Once Tang Qing completes the chain of evidence and leaves us with no grounds for reasonable doubt, the game's insincere vote detection will kick in.

"At that point, even if we pay 5,000 minutes of visa time per insincere vote, we only get three. The final result would still be Tang Qing winning."
