Chapter 383
Following the clues provided by the Book Saint, Adam began searching for the mysterious organization’s suspicious locations within North City, disguising himself as an ordinary pedestrian, he wove through the streets, looking for suspicious traces, utilizing his divine abilities, he carefully sensed the surrounding auras and fluctuations, attempting to locate the organization’s presence.
After a few days, although he hadn’t found definitive clues, he had gathered some useful information, he noticed a few areas that were relatively suspicious, their auras distinct from the rest of the city.
One day, in a secluded alleyway, he discovered a mysterious underground passage, upon careful inspection, Adam realized this was a passage left behind by the Heaven-Slaying Society in the past, it turned out to be a bit of a blunder on his part, how troublesome.
Adam smiled bitterly but didn’t give up, he knew this operation was of utmost importance and couldn’t be abandoned over a minor misunderstanding, he continued searching for clues, hoping to find the correct entrance.
But he soon realized that searching like this would only keep him on the surface, it was impossible to truly find the key locations, otherwise, such a massive organization couldn’t have stayed hidden for so long, he had to establish contact with someone on the inside, with an organization that large, someone was bound to slip up.
Adam was currently in an inn, taking small sips of wine and eating side dishes, while listening to the neighboring table gossip.
"Have you heard? Those guys from the Heaven-Slaying Society have been so arrogant lately, they’ve already killed many of our people!"
"I heard it ages ago, what a bunch of low-class rabble, being chosen is their honor, yet they actually dare to resist!"
"Hmph, do they think they can defy the Heavenly Court with those petty tricks? How laughably naive."
Listening to their discussions, Adam frowned, he had heard far too many similar remarks over these past few days, these people in the city didn’t treat the people outside as human beings at all.
"By the way, did you also hear? Over at the Burning Fire Sect, more disciples have gone missing!"
"That goes without saying, they were definitely snatched by the Heaven-Slaying Society!"
"To even dare take such a name, they really don’t know what’s good for them, what a bunch of clowns!"
Adam’s pupils shrank slightly, for the sake of this operation, the Heaven-Slaying Society had temporarily halted their rescue plans within the city, therefore, it was highly probable that the missing disciples were not their doing, then who could it be? Perhaps a clue had just presented itself.
Adam downed the wine in his cup in one gulp, sometimes, places like this were the best sources of intelligence, comparable to the strongest intelligence organizations in the world.
He decided to investigate the disappearance of the Burning Fire Sect disciples deeply to see if he could find a connection, he left the inn and began searching every corner of North City for clues.
First, he went to the Burning Fire Sect’s location, disguised as an official, and asked the disciples and elders for information, however, he didn’t get much useful, he only learned that the missing disciples had suddenly vanished at night.
There were no traces of a struggle or a fight, because of this, the people in the sect had tacitly assumed they had gone to join the Heaven-Slaying Society.
Adam received a message from the Book Saint stating they hadn’t recruited anyone from the Burning Fire Sect in North City recently, he didn’t expect the Heaven-Slaying Society to end up taking the blame for someone else.
But since that’s the case, I’m going to catch you, the corners of Adam’s mouth curled up, revealing a wicked smile.
At midnight, the moon was bright and the stars were sparse.
Adam secretly slipped into the missing disciple’s room, he wanted to use the other party’s clothes to track them.
"Don’t waste your energy, you won’t be able to track them!" A voice suddenly rang out from the darkness, Adam instantly reacted as if facing a formidable enemy.
"Who is it?" Adam shouted sternly, his figure blurred as he arrived at the source of the sound, but apart from an empty bed, table, and chairs, there was no one in the room.
Adam was on high alert, but his expression remained unchanged, he knew he had likely been discovered, he didn’t make any rash moves, instead, he quietly waited for the other party’s next move.
Soon, a ray of light lit up in a corner of the room, and a figure gradually materialized, it was a middle-aged man in a black robe, his face couldn’t be seen clearly, his entire body shrouded in darkness.
"No need to look, and no need to investigate, you won’t find them," the middle-aged man said coldly, his voice laced with disdain and mockery.
Adam frowned, it seemed he had truly found a clue this time, however, the other party had probably discovered his motive as well.
He didn’t act rashly, instead, he asked in a deep voice, "Who are you? What is your relationship with the missing disciples of the Burning Fire Sect?"
The middle-aged man smiled faintly. "Who I am is not important, what is important is that I know what you are looking for."
Adam frowned, the one who had come here was not a true physical body, but merely a projection, no wonder he hadn’t sensed any warning of the other party’s appearance.
"You are trying to find the location of my headquarters, aren’t you?" the middle-aged man continued.
Adam’s heart skipped a beat, his plan was completely exposed. He frowned. "That’s right, I want to find it, if your enemy is also the Heavenly Court, I think we could actually cooperate!"
He didn’t want to give up this chance to communicate with the other side.
The middle-aged man sneered. "Cooperate? No, we will never have the chance to cooperate!"
"If you don’t even try, how do you know there is no chance?" Adam continued to ask with a frown.
"No need to try, naive child, hahahaha..."
Amidst the middle-aged man’s laughter, his figure gradually vanished into the darkness.
