Goblin Dependency

Chapter 1261 - 619: Three Days Later

"Screech!"

A sharp, twisted howl echoed between the hills.

The pus-green skin surface was covered with sores, and the hunchbacked, emaciated body looked like some kind of dried-up corpse dead for days, emitting a nearly palpable air of decay and ugliness.

Muddy eyes filled with desire, sticky drool dripping from yellow rotten teeth, sharpened branches and crude sticks, crude skirts made from small animal fur and leaves...

This was a hunting party composed of exactly six adult goblins.

Not too many, not too few.

As the most bottom-tier existence among the so-called "Hunters" in the forest, if it’s just a single goblin, it might not even catch up with a rabbit in a bush, lacking the energy and intelligence to make traps or weapons.

But as the number of goblins gradually rises and exceeds a certain threshold.

The goblins in the tribe would seem to have touched some previously closed switch, accompanied by courage and desire burning like flames, as if some intangible presence is instilling them with various rudimentary knowledge.

Teaching them to use the simplest raw materials, like primitive humans making hunting tools, even including some relatively basic tactics.

Moreover, senior adventurers with rich experience have found traces of suspected high-intelligence civilizations in the wilderness said to be occupied by a super-giant goblin tribe.

Of course, for the goblin team newly formed in the hills of Anlun Province, both in scale and destructive power, it has not reached such a level.

Only six in total, barely able to hunt some slightly larger-sized beasts head-on.

But after all, they count as the lowest level of intelligent beings, the existence of "tools" provides these goblins with the possibility to attack up the food chain, even gaining an advantage.

"Awooo!"

A faint scent of blood wafted through the air.

A young gray wolf beast, not yet fully mature, much smaller in size compared to a mature individual, shrunk itself against the hard rock wall behind it, as if that could provide it a little sense of security.

Overall, it didn’t look too injured, except for its left hind leg, curled awkwardly, the crude trap had fallen off during its struggle but left a ring of raw, inverted flesh around the outside of its thigh.

Injured leg, unable to escape, stamina exhausted from struggling.

All it could do was shrink back against the wall, instinctively baring its fangs at the approaching enemy, and issue threatening growls in hopes of scaring away these dirty, ugly little creatures.

Initially, it was somewhat effective; although the goblins were driven by desire with low intelligence, before their numbers and internal emotions reached a boundary, they still had some survival instincts, knowing to seek advantage and avoid harm, not blindly rushing to their death.

Usually, every time the wolf beast bared its teeth and roared, it could drive those goblins trying to surround it back a few steps.

But as the alluring scent of blood in the air grew stronger, and the wolf beast’s growls became weaker, its threatening growls had increasingly less effect.

It was predictable that in ten minutes, at most half an hour, the dying trapped beast after prolonged torment would become a delicious dinner for this goblin team.

But...

Like a giant dragon inadvertently glimpsing a shiny object while flying high; like a shark beast in the sea drawn to the scent of blood.

The goblins’ signature "Screech," for ordinary villagers, is a nightmare symbol, for guard soldiers, it’s a declaration of battle.

But to a certain black-haired adventurer who hadn’t released for a long time due to needing to travel, it was akin to an oasis in the desert.

"Argh!"

The mysterious, resounding wolf howl came from afar with an exaggerated speed difficult for ordinary people to react to.

Goblin speed bumps didn’t even count; the goblins couldn’t even discern what exactly was attacking them before they were swept by the fierce wind, turning into dismembered, indistinguishable limbs and flesh amid splattered blood mist.

Only leaving behind the dazed gray wolf beside the rock wall that seemed to have brushed past a moving train, body trembling violently in rigidity.

Continuing to use [Teeth Hunting] to hurry along, Xia Nan savored the wonderful taste from his brief contact with the goblins, feeling unsatisfied, simply feeling he hadn’t made full use of it.

If it wasn’t for thinking of reaching Blood Castle as early as possible, he really wouldn’t mind staying to play with these little cuties for a while.

But after all, enough self-discipline to know when to focus on tasks and when to indulge a bit.

After a brief but difficult inner struggle, he ultimately restrained his inner desire with his strong willpower.

Currently, it had been another three days since he helped a recruitment team from the ambush of Scorpion-tailed Lion.

The journey could roughly be called smooth.

As a professional level lone wolf adventurer, he didn’t have to worry about teammates, everything from his own perspective.

His strong physical qualities and the convenience from battle skills allowed Xia Nan to bypass maps with winding routes likely guarded by various robbers.

Drawing a straight line between Salt Rock Port and Blood Castle, and charging straight ahead is what it is.

The abundance of provisions prepared in advance within the [White Pot] pocket watch gave him the confidence to do so.
