Chapter 1226 - 604: The Letter

  • Next Chapter

The source of the chill came from a bone white wolf fang, placed together with a diamond-shaped crystal gifted by Mage Vier to Xia Nan.

Just from its appearance alone, this wolf fang seemed nothing special.

And indeed, it doesn’t possess any notable enchantment effects.

Since Xia Nan acquired it, it has quietly sat in his personal waist pouch.

Its presence is so low that Xia Nan sometimes even forgets he still carries such an item.

But nonetheless, every time he feels it while retrieving a healing potion from the pouch or organizing his gear after a mission.

He has never once considered discarding it from his precious space-saving waist pouch.

Because, in some respects, this wolf fang, aside from the [Dream Weaving Corridor] and the [Proof of Diligence], is his most valuable possession.

The fang itself might not be worth much.

The real value lies in what this wolf fang represents—

A favor from a powerful being who is advancing towards "Legendary" level of extraordinary capabilities.

The fang comes from Barbarian Fugang.

Remembering more than a year ago, he was still a low-level adventurer, working in the outskirts of Mist Forest near River Valley Town.

Due to an unexpected experience during a mission, he made acquaintance with the noble half-elf Hai’an from Neum City.

And through that connection, met Fugang, an extraordinary barbarian who was passing through River Valley Town to track down his nemesis.

Through the half-elf’s channels, Fugang agreed to teach Xia Nan a combat skill suited to his fighting style—now known as Teeth Hunting.

Perhaps due to Xia Nan’s consistently good fortune in this area, Fugang, who was supposed to be deceived and miss his target according to the original plan, accidentally discovered traces of his quarry during the process of teaching Xia Nan the skill.

Using this as a clue, he finally found the long-pursued nemesis.

Though ultimately, after a battle that nearly destroyed half the small town, revenge wasn’t fully accomplished, a certain stage-like goal seemed to have been met.

Admittedly, Xia Nan did not play much of a role in the entire process.

The extraordinary level battle, even now, he would at most be able to move the spectator seats forward by a few hundred meters, taking on more shockwaves.

Yet the barbarian from the northern ice fields didn’t see it that way.

Pursuing a strong sense of destiny about revenge, Fugang attributed his success in encountering the Wild Swamp Druid near River Valley Town to Xia Nan.

And eventually, before leaving the small town, gave this wolf fang to Xia Nan as a token, symbolizing a favor owed to him.

Remembering back then, other than the freshly learned [Teeth Hunting], he only knew the [Vortex Slash] left by his original self, wasn’t even a professional adventurer, worrying about where to find the final battle skill.

In the blink of an eye, within just over a year, transformed into a professional level adventurer at level 4, with challenge levels even higher as a senior adventurer.

Thinking back now, it’s quite interesting.

At that time, he almost traded this precious favor for a desperately needed battle skill, realizing it was too wasteful, especially when Fugang offered to teach him another skill for free next winter if he hadn’t succeeded in attaining a professional level, if passing through Neum City, thereby pausing in time.

Counting the time, it is now the end of March in Arcane Calendar 1021, strictly speaking even spring, past the agreed date between the two.

Xia Nan neither received any correspondence regarding Fugang from the adventurer association at River Valley Town, nor has he already attained professional level himself.

Initially thinking the connection with this extraordinary being might end here, perhaps not meeting again for many years.

Unexpectedly...

Sitting at the bar counter in the tavern hall, the [Chasing Waves Sea Teeth] ship figurehead has been sent to the shipyard.

Xia Nan played with the bone white wolf fang in his hand, feeling the chill it emitted, showing a thoughtful expression.

Why has the usually silent wolf fang suddenly changed?

After a brief consideration, two possible reasons emerged in Xia Nan’s mind.

The first, and he believes the most likely.

Barbarian Fugang might have encountered some danger or, perhaps, finally took the last step towards the "Legendary" threshold, causing the fang to resonate.

Regarding the former, Xia Nan knows well enough that being a threat to an extraordinary being is certainly not something he can meddle with; he can only wish peace for the other in his heart.

And if the latter, it’s undoubtedly good news for Xia Nan.

This means that the favor from an extraordinary level being he originally possessed has risen in value to a legendary level.

And knowing the other’s character, owing a favor is owing a favor; he wouldn’t renege on it no matter what.

The second.

Perhaps due to some related power, or even Fugang himself, arriving at Suo Yu Bay, thus triggering a reaction in the fang.

The best scenario, of course, is the arrival of the barbarian himself.

Xia Nan is currently at a development bottleneck, whether for future advancement or expansion and enhancement of "combat formation" requires guidance from a sufficiently experienced pioneer.
