Goblin Dependency
Chapter 1217 - 599: [Shark Bone] and [Flame Scale Hybrid]_2
So he didn’t say anything more, and decisively closed the deal.
Even though he’d already gotten a read on Haiya’s personality in advance, seeing a three‑digit Gold Coin transaction go through so smoothly still put a faint look of surprise on the appraiser’s face.
He paused for a moment before snapping back to himself.
He pulled out a few pre‑prepared contracts from the drawer below, flicked his quill to fill in several numbers, then passed them to Xia Nan.
Only after Xia Nan carefully checked everything and confirmed it was correct did he smile and take the papers back:
"The Gold Coins will be transferred to your account within three days. Please confirm promptly when they arrive."
"Oh right, I heard from Maere you have two other pieces of Enchanted Equipment to consign here through the Association, correct?"
Of course he hadn’t forgotten; the whole reason he’d come to the adventurer association was to clear out this haul in one go.
Hearing that, Xia Nan naturally reached for the cloth bag by his feet, pulling out the Bone White Staff taken from the aged Fishman Priest Commander, and the Longsword of "Algae Scale" Dodd, setting them one by one on the desktop.
As the actual Equipment was exposed to the air, the Magic Particles in the room—only just calmed after the storm aura of the Wind Species Octopus Horn—began to roil again.
And that refined‑looking appraiser, as if he’d just received a major commission, unconsciously rose from his seat and began appraising them one by one.
...
[Shark Bone]
Type: Magic Wand
Level: Rare (Green)
Effects:
1. Psionics Spells damage +15% (Fourth Ring and below);
2. Casting speed +10%;
2. While holding this Magic Wand, your swimming speed is slightly increased (Intelligence bonus);
3. After performing a sacrificial gesture, the Wand’s holder can summon four Deep Sea Blood Sharks of Challenge Level "1", who obey your mental commands (duration 10 minutes; environmental restriction: body of Water with depth over five meters and area no less than three mu).
Introduction:
Formed around the spine of a Giant Shark, a bone staff from the deep sea, Forged by a master craftsman among the Sha Hua Fishman Race.
You’d better use it in the water.
Note:

Thanks to the attribute panel, even without any high‑level appraisal skills, Xia Nan had fully grasped all of the Wand’s effects the instant he acquired it.
Just as the introduction stated, this was a Wand specially crafted by the Sha Hua Fishman Race for their caster priests.
Half of its four effects only take hold in water, making them quite dependent on the surrounding environment.
But honestly, comparing it to the casting tools Xia Nan had obtained previously, even if you strip away the latter two entries and only keep the "Psionics Spell damage bonus" and "Casting speed increase," this Shark Bone Wand is still a solid piece of Equipment.
All the more so because its special Type as a casting tool makes it particularly sought‑after on the market, with a certain premium.
As Xia Nan had predicted, after a period of careful inspection, the refined appraiser in front of him likewise gave a rather high evaluation of the Shark Bone Wand.
Time was limited, so the appraisal data he obtained wasn’t necessarily as complete as Xia Nan’s, but he still vaguely picked up several of the Wand’s effects.
After thinking for a moment, the appraiser spoke seriously to Xia Nan:
"The Wand’s Quality Level shouldn’t be high, but the bonus effects are good."
"It not only slightly increases casting speed, but also boosts damage for a specific category of Spells."
"Besides that, under certain conditions—presumably in the sea—the holder of the Wand may also gain additional special ability bonuses."
"If you want to consign it through the Association, we can provide a deeper appraisal service."
"As for a guideline price... 1,200 Gold Coins to start; the exact number still depends on the Wand’s detailed Attributes."
Unlike the Wind Species Octopus Horn from before, for these two pieces of Equipment, Xia Nan chose to consign them in the adventurer association.
The buyers would be the adventurers coming and going through the Association hall, not the official side.
The method used would lean toward competitive bidding: within a set listing period, highest bid wins.
Knowing its specific Attributes, a guideline of 1,200 Gold Coins is entirely within the normal range for a green quality casting Equipment whose effect entries are somewhat limited.
Even selling slightly under that, Xia Nan could accept.
So he simply handed the Wand over for the Association to handle.
Next came the Longsword of "Algae Scale" Dodd.
...
[Flame Scale Hybrid]
Type: Longsword
Level: Rare (Blue)
Effects:
1. +75% Durability;
2. +15% Flame damage;
3. +10% Chopping Damage;
4. When the holder’s Dragon Descendant blood concentration lies between "one‑eighth" and "one‑half":
4‑1. Flame Resistance +15%;
4‑2. Attacks deal additional Flame damage (when Life is below fifty percent);
4‑3. [Suffering Flame Therapy]: the holder’s burning pain sensation is doubled; when dealing Flame damage to enemies, their own injuries are slowly healed.
Introduction:
His Human face keeps him from being acknowledged by the Flames, yet the fleshy scales on his body mean he can never go home again.

...
A Longsword of rough steel that at a glance looks utterly ordinary.
Like the cheap standard blades on a Blacksmith Shop rack that get sold by the dozens every day, there’s nothing special about its exterior.
But a closer look reveals faint, fine patterns hidden in the metal grain, like Dragon Scale‑shaped etchings.
Xia Nan had once gripped it and swung it a few times; the blade’s surface showed no obvious change.
Yet he remembered clearly that when he’d charged to the shoreline with the other adventurers, and "Algae Scale" Dodd was still alive, this Flame Scale Hybrid in Dodd’s hands had been sheathed in a dense glow of Flame, the scale patterns blazing with golden light.
Combined with the detailed info on its attribute panel, it wasn’t hard to infer that only a holder whose identity matched its "mixed‑blood" trait could trigger such a transformation in the Longsword.
To be honest, when Xia Nan had picked this unimpressive Longsword up from the blood‑soaked sand and soil on Stodd Island’s corpse‑strewn battlefield, and saw its attribute panel the next second—
A thought of keeping it for himself really did flicker up from deep inside.
A Blue Quality weapon, in the Type he used most often—swords—how could he not be tempted.
But soon after, when he saw on Flame Scale Hybrid’s attribute panel those special effects that truly set it apart from green quality weapons, yet required a mixed‑blood identity to activate—
Xia Nan put the idea away.
After all, he’d never trained in some technique of fighting with a sword clamped in his teeth; he rarely even went dual‑wield, much less anything like three‑blade style.
Two main weapons: one for everyday combat, one for targeting specific enemy types.
Flame Scale Hybrid’s Attribute effects are indeed good, but even adding those entries he himself can’t use, it still falls far short of Ash Fall, and it’s nowhere near as specialized as the Wooden Sword Green Pine.
Whether in terms of Basic Attributes or special effects, it loses out to his two main weapons.
All in all, despite Flame Scale Hybrid being at the rarely seen Blue Rare Quality Level, Xia Nan could only sell it rather than keep it.
And if you’re aiming to maximize profit with Flame Scale Hybrid, the obvious choice would be to send it to the Auction House in Suo Yu Bay and let adventurers bid on it.
Given the current heat around the Stodd Island incident, and "Algae Scale" Dodd’s reputation across the Southern Islands—
It’s likely plenty of people would be interested in his weapon, and it would surely fetch a high price.
But Xia Nan himself was already drawing plenty of attention in Suo Yu Bay. If he then stirred up a big auction on top of that, it might well ignite the town’s already feverish atmosphere outright.
At that point, as the holder of the Longsword, Xia Nan would inevitably be thrust right onto the public stage.
That wasn’t what he wanted. With his departure from Suo Yu Bay close at hand, he had no desire to get tangled in extra trouble.
Yet just letting it sit unsold would be too wasteful, and "Algae Scale" Dodd’s name really could push the Longsword’s price up quite a bit—selling it later in River Valley Town wouldn’t be very cost‑effective.
After weighing things up, he decided to try using the adventurer association’s channels to see if he could move the item while staying partially in the shadows.
