Global Survival: I Got the D-Rank Personnel Simulator
Chapter 837: The Client's Purpose
- The Client's Purpose
"Which private compartment is the client in?"
After boarding the train, Scarlatti asked.
"I don't know. The client didn't leave any compartment information, nor even the mission details. However, they transferred me 10,000 trade points as a deposit."
The other party was clearly sincere, so Lin Ye naturally wouldn't refuse.
Even if this was a trap, he was willing to come take a look.
"Then where are we going now? Should we go to my compartment? Or head to the public space to look for the client?"
Scarlatti was ready to lead the way.
"Of course, we're going to your compartment. The 10,000 trade points were the fare to board the train. If the other party has any additional requests, that'll be a separate price."
Lin Ye appreciated the other party's straightforward, transparent way of doing business.
"Then follow me."Scarlatti led the way. Perhaps to enhance the travel atmosphere, spatial gates couldn't be used to move freely here.
After weaving through a maze-like series of corridors, Scarlatti opened the door to a private compartment.
The interior space was incredibly spacious, fully equipped with all kinds of amenities, somewhat resembling a room in a luxury hotel. It was completely different from the compartment Lin Ye had used in the station mission before.
One side of the compartment featured a floor-to-ceiling window spanning a full hundred square meters, offering a view of the outside world through the glass.
"You can sit on the bed. The view is better over there."
Scarlatti brought over two glasses of iced drinks and placed them on the coffee table in front of Lin Ye.
"It's quite nice indeed, but I don't feel comfortable sitting on a bed while wearing a coat. It feels a bit odd."
The train was departing Miracle City, and only blurred lights and shadows could be seen outside the window.
"You can take that coat off."
Scarlatti glanced at the Sacrificial Night gown and blinked.
"Forget it. I prefer taking off my coat in places where I can truly relax."
Lin Ye took a sip of the iced drink. The blue liquid inside was incredibly refreshing.
"You don't trust me? That makes me a little sad."
Scarlatti sat down beside Lin Ye, very close.
"I've actually been wondering whether you're a member of the cult. If you really are, I hope you'll make sure I never find out."
Even now, Lin Ye couldn't determine Scarlatti's true identity.
"You can't bear to make a move against me?"
Scarlatti asked, sounding somewhat pleased.
"Mhm. I don't dislike kindness from strangers, even if it's kindness with ulterior motives."
From Lin Ye's perspective, Scarlatti was highly suspicious. But until he was completely certain, he wouldn't strike first.
"I'm not one of those cult lunatics, but I do have business dealings with the cult. Many factions have connections to it, though most of them don't even know what the cult really is. I'm not one of them. I know what the cult is, and I have certain ties to it."
Scarlatti gently leaned against Lin Ye and took a sip of the iced drink.
"As long as you're not a member of the cult, it has nothing to do with me."
Lin Ye wasn't extreme enough to go that far.
"That's because you don't know what the cult truly is yet. If you did, you might have already made your move."
Scarlatti said with a smile.
"Then we'll talk about it when I do."
Lin Ye turned to look out the window. The train slowed down slightly, revealing a vast forest covered in all kinds of fruit trees outside.
"Alright then, we'll talk when the time comes."
Scarlatti closed her eyes and softly hummed a somewhat eerie tune.
Lin Ye leaned back on the sofa, listening to the melody as he closed his eyes. He didn't plan to leave the train. Until it returned to Miracle City, he could rest for a while.
Before long, the train stopped outside an orchard. Some passengers got off to pick fruit from the trees.
At that moment, Lin Ye received a message from the client:
"Go outside and pick a fruit for me."
"100,000 trade points."
Lin Ye directly quoted his price.
"Are you insane? I just asked you to go pick a fruit!"
The client immediately replied.
"That's the price for making me leave the safe zone. If you can't even come up with that many trade points, then don't even think about dealing with me. I don't enjoy handling broke bastards like you. It's not worth my time."
Lin Ye replied without the slightest courtesy.
"...I can only give you 10,000 trade points as a deposit. After all, I can't be sure you'll actually go out."
After a while, the client finally sent another message.
"I'm not going to lie over a mere 100,000 trade points. If you can't afford it, then forget it."
Lin Ye didn't like haggling.
The client sent no further messages until the train started moving again.
Lin Ye didn't care. If they didn't have enough trade points, he had no intention of running around outside anyway.
After a while, the train left the orchard area and moved to a place shrouded in thick fog.
[Obtained 100,000 trade points]
"Get off at this station."
The client actually gave Lin Ye 100,000 trade points.
"Fine, but you'll need to pay the chat fee first. 1,000 trade points per message."
Lin Ye didn't like being disturbed while resting.
[Obtained 4,000 trade points]
This time, the client didn't send a message. Instead, they directly transferred the trade points to Lin Ye.
"Good. I'll get off at the next station. Hope you're prepared."
Lin Ye stood up, laid Scarlatti, who had been leaning against his shoulder, down on the sofa, and then left the compartment.
He would go outside to complete this transaction, after all, the other party had already shown sufficient sincerity.
Following the route he had taken before, Lin Ye easily found the train door. The train began to slow down. Unlike the previous station, only a few passengers got off this time.
The train stopped in the dense fog, and the doors automatically opened. Lin Ye stepped off the train and stood near the door for a while.
Nothing dangerous appeared around him, and no Near-God came to ambush him, which he found rather strange.
'Could it be that they want me to come into contact with this fog? Or is there some kind of dangerous substance here that I can't sense?'
Lin Ye didn't rush back onto the train. He wanted to figure out why they had asked him to get off here.
But even as the train started moving again, he still couldn't figure out their purpose.
There were no cult enemies, and no anomalous phenomena preventing him from boarding. He returned to Scarlatti's compartment without any trouble.
'They can't possibly just be here to give me trade points, right?'
Lin Ye knew there had to be some kind of problem hidden in all this, but he hadn't figured out where it was yet.
The client sent no more messages until the train returned to Miracle City.
"You shouldn't have gone out."
Scarlatti crawled up from the sofa, rubbing her eyes.
"Do you know what the cult's purpose is?"
Lin Ye gazed at Miracle City outside the window. He felt the cult wanted him to leave the city's boundaries, but what would be the point of that?
"Of course I don't know. I'm not one of those cult lunatics. But I do know they're not easy to deal with."
Scarlatti answered matter-of-factly.
