Chapter 835: The Special Function of the Black Card
- The Special Function of the Black Card
"They can create spiritual energy devices?"
Scarlatti watched those constantly rotating snail meats with great interest. She had never crafted spiritual energy items before and had limited knowledge in that area.
"Mm, they can handle some basic operations. That blueprint didn't have any overly complex structures."
With Little Guardian controlling the mental world, Lin Ye only needed to finish up some of the final touches.
"Then why are you still short on trade points?"
Scarlatti felt that Lin Ye could simply use those snail meats to print money.
"Making money isn't that simple. Productivity is only the most fundamental part. Raw materials, transportation, sales channels, market, safety... if just one link goes wrong, you could lose everything."
That was why Lin Ye preferred earning quick money, since it was easier to control.
"So it's really that complicated."
Scarlatti took a sip of her iced drink and shifted to a more comfortable position."That's just the basics. The most troublesome part is fellow adventurers and those who want to profit from it."
Lin Ye finished his iced drink. This job would take a while, and he couldn't take on the next commission yet, so he was rather bored.
"Would you like to do some cosmic observation? This one's free."
The director appeared beside Lin Ye's lounge chair and asked.
"Sure, I like free activities... there's no danger, right?"
Space wasn't exactly a safe place.
"No, there's a device here that blocks any influence."
A seat materialized beside the lounge chair, and the director sat down like an ordinary passenger.
A star resembling the sun suddenly illuminated this stretch of starry sky. The star was very close to them, yet it didn't affect them in the slightest.
But Lin Ye could be certain that, just like the cruise ship from before, this wasn't some virtual projection but a real, physical star.
He could even sense the high-risk energy constantly erupting from the star's surface.
"...You can manufacture something like this, and you still need to commission me to make spiritual energy devices?"
Lin Ye found it hard to understand their thinking.
It was like a university professor paying an elementary school student to do basic arithmetic.
"This is a product of the Miracle Era. We've long since lost the technology of that age. All we can do now is maintain this false prosperity."
The director sighed.
"The Miracle Era?"
Lin Ye sensed something unusual in the atmosphere.
"That was an era filled with miracles. Miracle City was established during that time. Back then, new miracles were born here every single day. At every moment, something that could be called a miracle would appear. It was truly a dreamlike era."
The director wore an expression of longing mixed with regret.
"And then?"
The star vanished like a bubble, and a complex ring-shaped celestial body appeared in the cosmos.
"And then? I don't know either. After a certain moment, no miracle was ever born here again. All the members of Miracle City began to settle for the status quo, indulging in pleasure and extravagance. No one studied miracles anymore. Even the chairman of the council abandoned their longing for miracles.
I was just a child back then. I was fortunate to have lived in that era, but I was also unfortunate, because I witnessed the demise of the Miracle Era."
The director let out a sigh. That was such a long time ago, so long that many people had forgotten what Miracle City even was.
"I don't think there's anything wrong with maintaining the status quo. I hope this place never changes, that it will always be the Miracle City of the Miracle Era."
Scarlatti picked up her glass and clinked it against Lin Ye's.
"...You're right. In the end, that's just my personal opinion."
The director didn't argue with Scarlatti.
"What a shame. If only I could visit that era."
Lin Ye also wanted to witness the so-called Miracle Era, as well as whatever it was that had made the Miracle Era disappear.
Planet after planet flew past in the cosmos, each one in a different state, looking utterly spectacular.
Lin Ye couldn't comprehend this technology that treated real planets in motion as if they were a movie. If every traveler could come for an observation session, the consumption involved would be almost incalculable.
This was probably what a miracle was.
The cosmic observation ended. Lin Ye stood up, dispersed the Parasitism Network, and then said to the director:
"Alright, you can pay me now."
"Finished that quickly?"
The director was somewhat surprised. She began checking the planet's condition and spent ten minutes completing her review.
[Obtained 10,000 trade points]
"Great. If you have more commissions like this, feel free to find me again."
Lin Ye left his contact information with the director, so she could leave him messages through the system.
Even though every message wasn't cheap.
"If there's a need... are you going to take these creatures with you?"
The director looked at those mutation creatures running around everywhere and asked.
After the Parasitism Network was dispersed, Lin Ye hadn't disposed of the mutation creatures that served as nodes.
"They're a bonus. You can keep them as ornamental creatures. If you don't like them, I can get rid of them."
Lin Ye answered casually.
"Then I'll keep them. I was just thinking about changing the atmosphere around here."
The director grabbed a struggling spiral creature and gave it a curious look.
Lin Ye and Scarlatti left the cosmic observation station. He had already accepted the next commission.
"Why don't you go collect the other black cards? That would definitely net you more trade points."
Scarlatti asked with some confusion.
As long as you got your hands on a black card, you could obtain at least 10,000 trade points. It was practically picking up money off the ground.
"If I happen to come across one, I'll grab it on the way."
Lin Ye had no intention of actively hunting for black cards.
"Then why not just give me your black card?"
A middle-aged man wearing a floral shirt and a bushy beard walked out from behind the door. He held a black card in his hand, greed flickering in his eyes.
"Sure. Give me 10,000 trade points, and the black card is yours."
If he could make a move in Miracle City, Lin Ye would have already dealt with this guy.
The middle-aged man was a powerful Controller, but he was still far from being a near-god.
"It seems you don't know what the black card can do. I suggest you hand it over to me right now, or you'll regret it soon enough."
The middle-aged man kept studying Lin Ye but didn't make a move immediately.
"The black card has other functions?"
Lin Ye looked at Scarlatti, confused.
"I don't know either. The person who gave it to me never mentioned the black card having any special function."
Scarlatti wore a puzzled expression. She genuinely had no idea the black card had any other abilities.
"Heh heh, I already gave you a chance!"
The middle-aged man suddenly pointed his black card at Lin Ye.
Lin Ye's black card automatically materialized in front of him, and the two black cards formed some kind of connection.
"You're finished! The black card's special function is to appraise the value of everything we carry. If your items are worth less than mine, then everything you own belongs to me, including yourself!"
The middle-aged man pulled out a Rule Crystal from his spatial item. He didn't believe that the mid-level spiritual energy user in front of him could produce anything of equal value.
