  1. Giant Octopus

The three of them stopped at the entrance, not stepping inside the floor.

Because the interior was a spiral space of extremely complex structure. Several corridors curved off in different directions, and the corridors were pitch black, making it impossible to see where they led.

"...Aren't you going in?"

Looking at those twisted corridors, Lin Ye felt they resembled a toilet mid-flush.

"Going in is simple, but getting back out is the hard part."

Little Spiral took a step back.

"There's a window in that corridor. I'll go take a look, you two hold onto me with the rope."

Margaret tied the rope around her waist, prepared her small knife and hand cannon, then walked toward the corridor that curved downward.

Lin Ye gripped the rope and followed behind Margaret. He didn't see anything strange in the corridor.

Margaret grabbed the rope and dropped into the corridor, descending bit by bit toward the window. The moment she got close, a pitch-black claw suddenly smashed through the glass, swiping at her body.

Lin Ye immediately jerked the rope. The rope pulled Margaret's body to the side, dodging the black claw.

Boom!

Margaret drew her hand cannon and fired a shot out the window.

Flames mixed with metal fragments erupted outside the window, shredding whatever was out there. Lin Ye quickly hauled on the rope, pulling Margaret up a good distance.

No sooner had Margaret been pulled up than she saw five thick black claws reach in through the window, flailing around wildly.

"There seem to be a lot of those clawed creatures out there."

It was dark outside the window. Margaret could only make out some shifting dark shadows.

"This is way too dangerous. Feels like the elevator wouldn't be much better."

Little Spiral stayed inside the emergency stairwell the whole time, making sure the large door didn't auto-close.

"Monsters aren't the problem. The issue is there's no spiral force field in here. Once we go in, getting back out is going to be tough."

Lin Ye pulled Margaret back. Those black claws were attached to slender arms stretching behind them. Only when Little Spiral closed the large door did they stop chasing into the emergency stairwell.

"What do we do now?"

Little Spiral hadn't expected so many monsters outside the window.

"We can start by surveying the general layout of this building."

Lin Ye had Margaret stay put. He took Little Spiral and started descending the stairs. At each floor, he opened the door leading into the floor and examined the terrain structure inside.

Little Spiral was responsible for watching the door.

Before long, he ran into Margaret down below.

"Follow me. I think I've got a rough idea of how to get out."

Although Lin Ye had only seen the parts where the floors connected to the emergency stairwell, as long as he could piece those sections together, he'd get a partial structure of the building.

And factoring in that the building looped end to end, he could deduce the overall layout of the entire structure.

Lin Ye led them down several more floors, then pushed open a door and entered the floor.

Near this floor's entrance, five spiral corridors branched off. Lin Ye walked straight toward the middle one.

"Hey, aren't we going to worry about this door?"

Little Spiral stopped by the entrance. She was afraid that once she went in, she wouldn't be able to get back out.

"No need. If my deduction isn't wrong, the exit of this building should be up ahead."

Lin Ye had a certain understanding of spiral structures. He didn't know why this building looped end to end, but he could use its internal structure to locate the exit.

"Fine, hope you're right."

Little Spiral used a bag of cookies to wedge the door open, but the moment she stepped into the floor, the door behind her auto-closed.

The internal structure of the floor was extremely chaotic, and every window had countless shifting black claws pressed against it.

Lin Ye led the way. Though he could only deduce the building's general layout, he could rely on that deduction to rule out the wrong corridors.

Before long, they came across a corridor that plunged straight down. It was pitch black inside, completely impossible to see what was below.

But there was a window in the wall beside it. Through the window, they could see the ground below was crawling with those pitch-black claws.

"If my deduction isn't wrong, the exit should be down there."

Lin Ye tied a rope to the corridor and prepared to descend for a look.

"Are you sure this isn't a food delivery chute?"

Little Spiral glanced out the window. The exterior wall was covered in those pitch-black claws.

"If you're scared, you can stay here and wait to die."

Lin Ye grabbed the rope and descended quickly. Before long, he hit solid ground.

The delivery chute connected to a sealed space. On the other side of the space, there was an elevator with its doors shut.

Margaret and Little Spiral also jumped down from above. Lin Ye opened the elevator and found it was a panoramic elevator, completely transparent.

Outside the elevator, a large number of thick black claws were pressed against it. The claws seemed to notice them and began slamming against the elevator, but they couldn't crack its transparent walls.

"This elevator is way too see-through."

The three entered the elevator. Little Spiral pressed her face against the transparent wall, staring at the black claws.

Lin Ye directly pressed the button for the top floor. He had no intention of visiting any other floors.

The elevator accelerated upward. The black claws pounded against the walls in frustration, making a clanging racket.

Only when the elevator reached the rooftop did those claws pressed against the transparent walls retract.

The elevator doors opened automatically. Outside was the rooftop of the hospital main building.

Lin Ye walked to the edge of the rooftop. He found that looking down from here, all he could see was the hospital main building with its normal structure.

This might be some kind of architectural design that distorts perception.

"We can go up from here. Do you two need to rest for a bit?"

Lin Ye saw a large number of stable spiral force fields above the rooftop.

"I don't need to. Are you sure you're alright?"

Margaret was worried Lin Ye's stamina might give out later.

"I'm fine."

Seeing that Little Spiral didn't need rest either, Lin Ye leaped into the spiral force field and began moving deeper into Spiral City.

As they went deeper into Spiral City, spiral voids of varying sizes appeared in the air. The spiral voids would suck people into their depths, making it impossible to escape once caught.

Lin Ye carefully navigated around those spiral voids, continuously flying deeper into Spiral City. This time, he didn't approach the continent ahead but skirted around it instead.

Considering what had happened at the hospital, Lin Ye felt that direct flight might be faster.

Margaret and Little Spiral didn't land either. With Lin Ye leading the way, they could hold on for a while longer.

Just as Lin Ye was circling around the fifth continent, a giant spiral creature shaped like an octopus appeared diagonally above them.

The giant octopus was covered in tendrils. Those tendrils piled layer upon layer in the air, blocking the direction they needed to go.

"We can land over there first."

Margaret pointed at a nearby platform and shouted.

"Alright."

Lin Ye moved into the spiral force field near the platform and rode it down to land.
