Global Lords: The Undead's Mobile Fortress
Chapter 341 - 176: Heavy Losses
The statistics for the Undead Combat Sequence were the first to come in. The Elite Heavy Hammer Skeleton Warriors had lost nearly half their number, with just over 2,000 remaining. The Skeleton Longbowmen fared better, with only a few hundred casualties. Unfortunately, the Skeleton Short Bowmen, who were mixed in with the Skeleton Undead forces to engage the enemy, were almost completely wiped out in the single battle.
3,000 Skeleton Short Bowmen... gone just like that. Summoning 3,000 Skeleton Short Bowmen required nearly 100,000 units of Soul Energy, a loss that made Li Ziyu’s heart ache.
The Skeleton Hammer Warriors and Giant Skeleton Warriors, two soldier types that fought the enemy at close range like the Skeleton Short Bowmen, suffered even heavier casualties. Not a single one was left; they were completely annihilated.
The Low Level and Intermediate Skeleton Warriors were basically wiped out as well. However, there were still plenty of High Level Skeleton Warriors in reserve. Li Ziyu had summoned too many of them initially, and even now, many High Level Skeleton Warriors had yet to be assigned a role.
As for the Skeleton Undead, there was no need to count them—it was impossible. Li Ziyu had prepared 1.5 million Skeleton Undead before the battle and had been constantly replenishing their numbers. There were probably about seven legions left. In any case, the casualties among the Skeleton Undead definitely exceeded a million.
This battle also made Li Ziyu realize the difference between Low Level and High Level units.
The Alliance Army’s 300,000 elites had cut down over a million Skeleton Undead. After the enemy’s Full Army Assault, the Skeleton Undead were reduced to mere cannon fodder, dying in droves.
However, it was thanks to the Skeleton Undead serving as cannon fodder, and Li Ziyu’s ability to summon them quickly, that he was able to drag out the fight. Otherwise, things would have been truly dangerous.
The Alien Undead suffered equally immense losses. The Skeleton Minotaurs, Skeleton Hill Giant Demons, Skeleton Jackal Wolfmen, and other Alien Undead were nearly wiped out, and not many Skeleton Beasts were left either.
To fight the Alliance Army, Li Ziyu had prepared 10,000 Skeleton Giant Tusked Boars and 30,000 Skeleton Fang Wolves, along with a considerable number of other Skeleton Beasts. After the battle, between 200 and 300 Skeleton Giant Tusked Boars remained. A few more Skeleton Fang Wolves survived, with over 1,000 left.
It was safe to say that the Alien Undead Corps he had so carefully prepared over the past period was now annihilated.
Although his other Alien Skeletons were almost all gone, Li Ziyu had shrewdly held something back. He still had a portion of his Skeleton Beasts that he hadn’t sent to the battlefield: 30,000 Plague Skeleton Desert Grey Rats!
This was his trump card. Li Ziyu had prepared for the worst. If the battle turned against him or devolved into an irreversible war of attrition, he would abandon the Wraith Mountain Range and send out the Skeleton Desert Grey Rats.
The Tattoo of the Desert Grey Rats was Plague. Their direct combat strength was poor, but they were an absolute superweapon. Once they reached the enemy camp, given enough time, Li Ziyu refused to believe his opponents could withstand the Plague.
For now, the battle was still manageable, so Li Ziyu had no intention of deploying the Plague Skeleton Desert Grey Rats.
After another long wait, an Undead brought Li Ziyu a rough report on the spoils of the battlefield.
Enemies eliminated: 80,000+.
Besides the corpses of the Alliance Soldiers left on the battlefield, there were also numerous bodies of Wild Beasts, summoned creatures, and mounts that had not yet been counted.
Li Ziyu’s losses were great, but the enemy’s were not small either.
80,000 Warriors was equivalent to one-third of the enemy’s forces.
That was the Alliance Army, not the Undead. Undead losses could always be replenished with enough time and materials, but such a huge loss for the Alliance Army... that would be interesting.
The Alliance Soldiers were elites drawn from the Three Races, the best of the best from each tribe. Some were even pillars of their communities. To have them fall on the battlefield like this was an absolute catastrophe for their respective tribes.
And such massive casualties would also sow internal discord among the enemy. After all, they weren’t a single entity, but an alliance.
There were bound to be conflicts within an alliance. These conflicts might not be visible in normal times, but under the pressure of such enormous losses, they would become incredibly sharp.
「Alliance Camp. The conference room.」
"How many Warriors did we lose?" Palamede asked, sitting in the main seat and staring at the general below.
"Over 80,000," the general said, his head hanging low.
The moment he said it, the conference room erupted.
Everyone present knew their losses from the second clash with the Undead would be significant, but no one had expected them to lose over 80,000.
These weren’t just goblin casualties! The Headhunter Race and the Lizardmen had also suffered heavy losses!
They didn’t care about goblin losses. It didn’t matter. The goblin Race was weak and numerous, so who else would be cannon fodder if not them? If they died, they died.
But the Headhunter Race and the Lizardmen couldn’t afford such losses. A blow this heavy would take years for the two races to recover from.
Never mind the men seated below; even Palamede felt his head ache upon hearing the number.
He could use his martial strength to suppress the generals and Clan Leaders below him, but collapsing morale was not something he could so easily contain.
Collapsing morale would lead to a drop in combat effectiveness and spirit. What were they to do in the next battle?
If they fought, their combat effectiveness was diminished. If they didn’t, could they simply walk away after losing so many people?
And all of this fell on his shoulders. The eyes of the generals and Clan Leaders in the room were filled with dissatisfaction and fury as they looked at Palamede.
’The order for the Full Army Assault came from you, Palamede. You caused these massive losses, so of course you have to take responsibility. Otherwise, how can we answer to our people?’
