They then began pushing Zhao Chi from behind.

Soon, only Su Qin and Zhao Chi were left in the room.

The bedroom was the Lord’s House’s original, with a pale yellow, woody aesthetic.

The room was spotlessly clean.

He didn’t know if Su Qin was always this tidy or if she had cleaned up specially to host him.

Against the far wall was a double bed covered with a red floral-print sheet. The quilt was folded neatly at the head of the bed.

In the middle of the room stood a square wooden table laden with all sorts of food.

A lot of it must have been bought from outside, like various deli meats, soy-sauce chicken, cured pork, and sausages.

There were also some freshly stir-fried dishes that looked vibrant, the vegetables a brilliant green. One of these dishes was made by Su Qin.

A large bowl of soup sat in the middle of the table. He couldn’t tell what was in it, but it was surely made with fine ingredients.

Beside it were two small pots of wine. He didn’t know what kind it was, but it was probably decent.

There were also several kinds of fruit, all washed and ready to eat.

And there were only two chairs.

The two chairs were placed close together.

This whole feast had been prepared for him, though there was no way Zhao Chi could eat this much.

Seeing all this, Zhao Chi didn’t know what to say. He just felt a little awkward.

Su Qin was the first to break the silence.

Though she was still frowning, her eyes betraying her dissatisfaction, her tone had softened.

"I prepared all this, so why were you leaving? Didn’t we agree to have a meal? How can a grown man like you go back on his word?"

Zhao Chi quickly replied, "This is such a feast! I’ll definitely eat my fill before I go."

Su Qin’s expression brightened a little. "Mm-hm. I made the shiitake mushrooms with bok choy. I was going to make some spicy cabbage too, but I didn’t expect you to arrive so soon. I’m not very good at making meat dishes, but I can learn."

Su Qin pulled out a chair for Zhao Chi to sit.

She then sat down beside him and began to serve him some food.

"Try the dish I made first. Fourth Sister-in-law taught me how to stew meat before, but I didn’t pay close attention. I’ll practice more in the future."

"Mm, it’s delicious. You’re a good cook, very talented."

Zhao Chi was deliberately complimenting her, but Su Qin clearly wasn’t falling for it.
