Global Lords: My Territory Heart Is a World Tree
Chapter 417 - 22: Slime Computer 2
Chapter 417: Chapter 22: Slime Computer 2
To prevent the Slimes from working long hours without rest, which would cause a decline in their computational and storage abilities (even semi-corporeal energy beings like Slimes get tired).
The Institute specially constructed a Slime residence outside its grounds, covering over ten square kilometers. Inside this residence, they built a Natural Essence Manufacturing Plant.
Every day, one thousand max-level Bee Swarm Gluttonous Slimes were scheduled to leave the "Slime Computer Workroom" (the testing grounds’ new official name). Simultaneously, one thousand well-rested Bee Swarm Gluttonous Slimes would take their place, entering the "Slime Computer Workroom" for a ten-day shift.
The departing Bee Swarm Gluttonous Slimes would hand over their duties to the new arrivals, transferring all the Institute’s knowledge from their own minds to the new Slimes’.
Once their minds were clear, they were free to go.
Since the Institute provided room and board, there was an endless stream of Slime applicants.
Thanks to the existence of the "Slime Computer," the progress of all the Institute’s research projects accelerated rapidly.
Meanwhile, the territory’s Bee Swarm Gluttonous Slimes entered the Titan Continent under Meiying’s arrangements.
After some investigation and calculation, the military command center decided to dispatch ten million Level 1 Bee Swarm Gluttonous Slimes (equivalent to nearly two thousand max-level Slimes) to the Titan Continent each day.
...
And so, the first batch of two thousand max-level Bee Swarm Gluttonous Slimes arrived in the Als Territory.
These Bee Swarm Gluttonous Slimes dispatched to the Als Territory were responsible for combat operations.
Their mission was to guard the territory. During this time, they were to consume the unique materials native to the Titan Continent, allowing them to adapt to the high-gravity environment and acquire the gravity-related traits unique to other Titan creatures.
Then, through conflict with the Titan Clan People, they would hone their use of Telekinesis.
Ideally, they would evolve into specialized combat Slimes. If not, they were to raise their levels as much as possible to split off into more Bee Swarm Gluttonous Slimes.
Lin Yu’s goal was to drown the lords of the Titan Race in a Slime Sea.
Al met these ’jellies’ outside his territory’s city walls.
"So you’re the Bee Swarm Gluttonous Slimes?"
Al had been notified beforehand that new troops would be sent to support him, helping to defend the newly conquered territory and attack other lords of the Titan Race. He just never imagined they would send Slimes.
"You..."
Staring at the field of ’jellies,’ Al was dumbfounded.
’Since they’re here to defend and attack, they must be some kind of combat unit. They should at least have some fighting ability, right?’
’But these Slimes look almost identical to the ones that used to come to the territory to collect trash!’
’They’re just as sluggish and goofy-looking. In fact, they seem even smaller (not yet adapted to the high-gravity environment). I can’t see any difference at all!’
Looking at the Slimes, Al recalled the information he’d gleaned from heroes stationed abroad.
Apparently, Slimes and those fragile little sprites were essentially kin—the failed products of the territory’s sprite breeding experiments.
The sprites could gather resources, produce Spiritual Energy, and even evolve into higher-tiered fairies and elves, while the Slimes could only survive by eating decaying matter.
If the territory hadn’t later established the ’Natural Essence Manufacturing Plant,’ giving these Slimes a purpose, they would still be languishing in some swamp.
(Before they were deemed valuable, the territory restricted the Slimes’ reproduction. The Slimes themselves were also self-regulating, merely maintaining their population’s base numbers.)
Thinking of this, Al once again marveled, ’To think those beautiful elves actually evolved from little sprites... It’s incredible!’
"Think we don’t look like Warriors?" A voice from within the swarm of Bee Swarm Gluttonous Slimes interrupted Al’s train of thought.
This was a method of speaking the Slimes had developed with the help of the Institute’s researchers, using vibrations of Telekinesis to produce sound.
It seemed simple, but it required extremely fine control over Telekinesis. The intelligence and Spiritual Power of a single Bee Swarm Gluttonous Slime were insufficient; it took a group of at least ten max-level Bee Swarm Gluttonous Slimes to accomplish.
"Whoa! You can talk now?" Al blurted out in surprise. "My apologies, I’m so sorry! You just look exactly like the trash-collecting Slimes back in the territory, so I thought..."
"You weren’t mistaken. We are trash collectors!" the voice replied. "And don’t worry about apologizing. Everyone in the territory who’s heard us speak these past few days has had pretty much the same reaction."
"I’m sorry, I misunderstood," Al apologized again. After siding with Lin Yu, the first thing he’d learned was humility.
"Wait, you said you’re trash collectors? I was told Slime Warriors were coming! Aren’t you the reinforcements?" Al suddenly realized.
"We are trash collectors, and we are Slime Warriors. We’re here to collect trash, and we’re here to fight!" The Slimes’ voice sounded somewhat cheerful.
"Want to see what we can do?"
"Of course!" Al replied, then quickly added, "It’s not that I don’t trust you. I’m just curious, since you don’t look any different from the Slimes I’ve seen before."
The Slimes surveyed the surroundings, saw the city wall was the only thing that looked like it could take a hit, and decided to make it their target. "Let’s test our strength on your wall, then. We hear that even the great Dong Lin couldn’t break it."
